I like the apex design valves, however, its a huge flaw imo on some of the wheels (like the ones shown in this video) that they extrude outwards so much to be prone to damage on the trails.

Glad someone else brought this up. Another flaw of those stems (and most stems actually) - though I like the concept - they cannot be installed from outside the wheel. You might think this an insignificant complaint, but 2 weeks ago I lost a Colby valve to a log that took it out on a tight, skinny, 90 degree turn on a SxS trail. The tire was fine but had I used any other valve stem I would have been changing a tire in an off-camber and downhill situation. Done that before and wish to avoid ever having to do it again. With Colby valves, I simply removed the damaged valve, inserted the new valve, tightened down and aired up. Off I went in 5 minutes. One could argue the time saved airing down on the Apex valves is more than lost should that valve suffer the same fate as the Colby valve. Not to mention they are less than half half the cost of the Apex stems. After all, TPMS is a very needless tech only there to stop working at some point (and it will). That Raingler netting is far more useful than TPMS. In 80 series world we have the attic rack over the cargo area. Super useful as that netting. But I could see adding the netting even still over the second row. Lastly, the Scan-Gage...lol it is interesting to see the data...but many get caught up in what we call 'scanner anxiety'. Just be careful, know the baseline data, and don't go 'panic' trying to resolve an issue you don't actually have. edit: and meant to mention, if you have 2 batteries and you cannot crank the truck with either, or both if necessary, on command, you don't have a dual battery setup. You have a sequential, or duplicate, battery setup. This arrangement is the least useful and needs only a little more wiring to make it much more useful.

@@samjohnson9894 if you have a dedicated off road rig tpms is useless sure, but if you spend a lot of time on road it's nice to have and the sensors on my 09 car required replacement in 22. I think 14 years is pretty good battery life.

Those little jumper packs are great, but you have to be very careful about something. Often you think you are safe to jump start a car but if it's cold out they do not work. I've had different results for different brands but I know the NOCO for sure will not work when it's cold. So check the specs and whatever one you have and see because there's nothing worse thinking that you're good to go and you're not going to freeze and then realize that you're still going to be stuck.

Something better than the battery for jumping a car is a battery jumper super capacitor. They aren't affected by extreme cold and heat like the batteries are. They always work if the battery isn't just destroyed. They slowly (~20s-1min) charge off your *dead* battery and and help the low battery start the engine. Just leave it in the car year round and not have to worry, ever.

Ha.. yeah... it is a press made for doing Iron on patches so it has a heat element and everything. But, crazy thing is we tested the iron on patches VS a normal patch using Industrial Fabric glue and the fabric glue was much stronger. The problem is it takes like 3 hours to set. So we use the press to put the patch on and set the hat. The Iron ons are pretty good... I just didn't want to deal with returns and I wanted my hats to be really good quality. As for the press... I bought it on Amazon for I think 149 dollars. IF you go the Glue route... this is the way to go - amzn.to/3sV2HtK

@@OutdoorAuto It’s interesting - I think the idea was shot to begin with. Valve stems were never made to be repeatedly removed and reinstalled. Prior to these devices, it was supposed to be a one and done install. The valve stem cap is meant to keep water and corrosives off the sensitive tiny stem. I think the idea was a good concept for airing down, but a very poor concept when accounting for the design of the valve stem. It’s probably why most of these kits come with a little bag of valve stems to replace as the originals get worn out. Cross-threading one is curtains, too. In theory, good idea, in application, terrible idea.

The valve stems look like they would break if hit from a rock on the side. I think regular valve stems would be a lil more forgiving!

I think that will mostly come down to if you are an Overlander or a Rock crawler… but for what it’s worth my Jeep friends that have them are all rock crawlers and no issues yet.

The Rangler nets are nice and are super useful but they are not inexpensive!
@OutdoorAuto

inexpensive is always comparable... I know a lot of overlanders that spend a lot more on stuff that offers so much less practical use.

Upgrade your Scanguage to the III. Way better visibility and you have tire pressures.

isn't that one bluetooth though? I hate bluetooth stuff. My truck already has Tire pressure anyway.

$160 for the scangauge is very inexpensive 🤔 I'm use torque pro app to monitor the transmission temperature
@OutdoorAuto
@OutdoorAuto 10 ай бұрын
its hard talking about the price of anything nowdays... expensive vs inexpensive is so relative.... 🤷‍♂️ .... but for the value it brings in both code reading and clearing and the gauges... It gives me 160 bucks of value.... I use several gauges... but the transmission one is critical for the abuse my truck gets...

You can say the same thing about any form of automotive hobby, drag racing, vintage restorations, motocross, utv… any form of racing…. Vehicles present the opportunity to try and build something, make it your own and adventure in whatever way suits you… it could be car shows… it could be mountain peaks… I don’t judge people for their hobbies… but I am a big fan of paying cash for hobbies.

@@OutdoorAuto not really, when you are restoring a vintage car you are rebuilding it and making it workable again. What you're not doing is installing a refrigerator into the trunk. It's just the full-timers making fun of the Weekend Warriors. We live out here and I don't even have a third of the crap that you people carried with you. We tend to give you guys odd looks with your roof top tents but we tend to forget that you guys only come out during the good weather. We have to deal with Mother Nature all year round in the rooftop tent would be suicide. Our mindsets are in a different gear.
