Taku. You're not supposed to cook "Turkish Washcloth". As a kid, my mother prepared it as a salad. Cut it into 1/4" strips, add diced tomatoes, finely chopped green onions, and grated ginger. Add soy sauce, vinegar, and a little water. Toss and keep chilled. Texture is like crunchy rubber bands. Unique but refreshing. Try it!

Thank you for the great video Taku! Turkish washcloth baby leaves are crunchy and more pleasant to eat when they are raw, the bigger ones are rubbery.

Go for it man. It is not only a simple foraging video but also super educational. It provides us viewers lots of knowledge on different types of sea creatures just like your sea urchin foraging video. Learned a lot from that video. I saved that one just in case I will go and try it out myself. Also I thought you would eat them raw or at least blanch them. So just wondering how they would taste like when they are fresh.

I always wondered about the feather boas! I read something about pickling the stipe as you can with the bullwhip kelp, might be nice to try as the base for a seaweed relish or something. The rainbow-leaf and turkish washcloth are...unfortunate. I've heard of them being used like kombu or as a thickening agent, but never eaten directly. Maybe it can be powdered and used in a dry seasoning mix...but frankly it sounds like salt and lemon can work just fine lol

Awesome video Taku! Your seaweed forays are always some of my favorite. One important thing to mention about seaweed is that it can start decaying very quickly after it's been cut, so it's vital to process it in the same day that you harvest it and to only take seaweed that's attached to rocks (as you've mentioned before). I've tried preparing feather boa before since it's the easiest to find and harvest (you can get easily get 10 pounds from just a section of a single strand) but I let it soak in a bucket of water overnight planning to cook it the next day. By morning the water was stained brown and hundreds of the small blades had detached from the stipe, so instead I just let it sit for a few weeks longer and made seaweed fertilizer for my garden. I can't wait to get out and try cooking some for myself again. I'm thinking you may be able to get rid of that extreme saltiness and turn it into a snackable form by first dehydrating it then soaking it in water briefly to dissolve the excess salt that collects on the outside, then re-de-hydrating or re-baking it (blending optional). Feather boa is so much easier to find and harvest in large amounts than Nori, so it seems like the ideal species if you want to harvest enough to last for more than one sitting. If I can ever make it out to the coast again I'll try this for sure.
