These are 5 mistakes that duck hunters make. I am guilty of all of these mistakes and I am sure every other duck hunter is as well. These are things that duck hunters need to keep in mind when they are in the field duck hunting because it can make or break your hunt.

As we get closer to goose/duck season, a video comparing different types of layout blinds would be amazing. Differences in opinion of the flip up vs double door, frame vs no frame, etc.

I have a friend that goes out before the hunt and sets blind up. Then flies a drone up to check concealment. Definitely time consuming but with friends it goes quick and gives great view of your concealment.

Can you please make a video of how to set duck decoy spreads? Ik a lot of ppl make them but I was wondering if you could use like a piece of paper along with it and actually draw it out. I’m pretty new to duck hunting and have just been trying to learn a lot of it on my own bc duck hunting where I live is so hard the guys that are good at it are extremely secretive! Love the videos keep it up
@ajmilone9415

Figure it out your self. Only way you'll learn
@tylerm4709
@tylerm4709 4 жыл бұрын
Best advice I can give you is scout your area and try to make your spread look as natural & realistic as possible. 90% of the time I keep it simple with a horse shoe or J hook, but remember bird’s always come into the wind and it’s nice to have a “kill hole” for where you want to take your shots at. Keep at it and you’ll be just fine
@nicoeyschuelson244
@nicoeyschuelson244 4 жыл бұрын
Somethuing that might help your learning process is to figure out wind direction, then set up a crescent looking C or J area curling out away from blind in such a manner as to create a "landing spot" in front of your blind that the ducks will set their wings and "cup" into. There are different variations, but you might find this method to be a great starting point and then as you watch them react to your location, you can adjust for where you see them landing to strengthen your spread to maximize your shooting opportunities. I also recommend a jerk rig or a wing spinner to ensure birds see movement to trick them to cup into your water hole! I hope this at least helps you head in the right direction! Good luck, it's a lifetime of fun even learning how to place good decoys, and you should pick it up fast if you haven't already!
@nicoeyschuelson244
@nicoeyschuelson244 4 жыл бұрын
Also, keep your feeder ducks in close to land, grouping like to like ducks together, and as you work that C or J out away from shore, work out to your smaller diver ducks, this immitates more real duck behavior than throwing them out willy nilly with no rhyme or reason.
@mikeries8549
@mikeries8549 4 жыл бұрын
Put decoys where you don't want ducks to land. Leave a hole with a clear entry and you can put ducks where you want them PROVIDING that you're very well hidden and not pie facing. 😅

Could you do an "advanced" duck hunter video in terms of equipment? You've covered getting started with the basics. But how about the next step? Like if someone wants to get a little more into it. Maybe cover somethings they could upgrade too. Nicer shotgun, better decoys etc.

Minute 5:42 of your video states 'don't shot a bird(duck) if you can't retrieve it'. Hunters, let's be conscious about shooting a bird that's flying a little too far; oftentimes the bird will 'escape', but it won't recuperate; keep in mind, the bird will suffer an open infection, pain, starvation and it may end up as wasted food...

In Arkansas public timber it’s a huge pet peeve for me that people don’t get a good hole or have a bad setup and by 7:30-8:00 they’re running their boat around shot chasing. That’s not an ethical way to hunt and it screws up other people’s day. I’ve had days, as I’m sure a lot of people have, where you’re on the x killing birds and shot chasers roll up on you set in their boat 100 yards or less from where you are and just watch with no concerns with their concealment and just shuts the hunt down.

I hunt plenty of deep water without a boat or dog. I’ve never had any problems retrieving ducks or geese with a fishing pole rigged up with a salmon treble hook with a steelhead slinky weight tied on the bottom. Works wonders.

Daniel Dudzinski You’d be surprised. Where I hunt ducks come in small groups. I have use 6 decoys and limited out before guys with 3 dozen shot a duck. It’s all about looking natural. I usually scout to see how many I need, but where I go I never use more than 18. If I was hunting a rice field or something I’d want as many as possible. Just depends.

Sound advice on both ends. There are places where you only see pairs or groups of 3 or 4 and that's it so you go small. On the other end of the spectrum when you are at the point where two flyways merge and you're covered in ducks go large. There aren't many places where two flyways merge. If you're into ducks you know exactly where I'm talkin about.

Over calling and calling too loud is a big thing a lot of people do, I try to always, for mallards at least, call at their tail instead of at their face. And I give a mellow 4-5 notes of the comeback. Also feed chuckle should only be done in 6-12 inches of water and done in short splits, not super fast and loud.

Hey guys. Long time subscriber here. I’d love some input on the following: I’m in NC. Hunt mostly on Eastern Shore MD. Sad to say but the AP is all but dead, boys. One-bird limit and only a 30-day contiguous season. No split. What was once the Mecca of Canada goose hunting is getting really close to going back to a moratorium I’m afraid. So I’m 60. Active and fit. Professional vid editor and still very involved in my business, but have tons of freedom finally. Doesn’t matter where I live... Am thinking about moving to Midwest or upper Midwest for Oct-Dec this year. Cheap rental, etc. My modus operandi is light and fast solo field hunting. Mostly geese. Three dozen sillos and a layout blind. In and out. Leaving nothing but boot prints. QUESTION: If you could go anywhere in the US for those three months to hunt geese, where would it be? And why... Looking primarily for two characteristics: 1 - Reasonable chance to have good migratory numbers. 2 - Reasonable chance to find farmers that are receptive to having a respectable guy coming up unannounced and humbly asking permission...even if they decline. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated...

Good info but we can only stare at you for so long. How about breaking away to some video examples of what you are referring to. It make take a little more effort but your videos will have more appeal.

So true, I duck hunted for years without a dog. Now I have two labs, I hunt with both of them and I can't imagine hunting without a dog now.
