Fantastic video for the avid birder, a couple tested my knowledge but that’s what I liked about it. I’m also pleased with myself how many I got, but I also cheated once or twice. Thank you very much for this video.

Shaun Ferguson Both my wife and myself have mobility issues, but I’m hoping to go to the Isle of Harris for my 60th. But arranging a trip like that for both of us is like arranging a six month Artic expedition. Because of the name it’s somewhere I've always wanted to visit since I was a child.

Mark Harris Aah well then Outer Heb is the place for you we were never far from the car for most of our birding there. Even the sea watching can be done from the car.

Great Northern it was just a play of the light on the bill that made it look yellowish.

Shaun, what a video. This is easily one of the best birdwatching videos I've seen on youtube to date. Incredible footage of some really special birds. I'd love to know where specifically in the Outer Hebrides you travelled to and how long you were there for. This is the sort of trip a friend of mine and I would love to do but we don't have a car which does make things extra difficult. However, if you could get still get back to me with some more information, it would be greatly appreciated. Brilliant video once again and well done.

Why thank you very much Michael. The video is just cobbled together from short vids I took while there. The map in the beginning of the vid shows where we actually drove while there. There is no one good site ..it's all good. Not having a car is gonna make it a little difficult for you to get around though. We were there a week. Let me know if you need any more info.

Some of the footage is just fantastic. The male Hen Harrier and Great Northern Diver in particular are stunning. I've only seen those two birds on one occasion so I would love to see them again. The footage of the Short Eared Owl, a bird which I am dying to see incidentally, is equally impressive. I think the Outer Hebrides is just a real gem of a place, especially for birds. I was in Harris last year and had a great time and saw some great birds too. However, i'd love to venture more, especially a trip to North Uist. I figured not having a car would cause problems to be honest. Hopefully myself or my pal can pass our driving test soon. Did you stay in hotels/hostels/Bed and breakfast or did you camp? Or did you do something else entirely? I reckon my friend and I, if we do, will probably camp. Thanks for getting back to me Shaun, it is much appreciated.

You can get SEOwl just about anywhere but they are guaranteed on Committee Road where you get your Hen Harrier, Golden Eagle and Red Grouse. We had SEO sitting on fence posts right next to the road. We rented a house for the week it was the one with the red roof in the beginning of the vid. It was awesome right next to the sea. Hell we even had Corncrake in our front and back gardens and they were on our 'From the breakfast table list'. hahaha The house we stayed at was right by the entrance to RSPB Balranald and also the camp site. The camp site was VERY basic they had a little shop there and the reserve is walkable from there but without a car you're going to miss a lot. I'm tempted to tell you not to go until you can sort a car otherwise you are gonna miss too much. BTW it's great to see youngsters such as yourself into your birding.

I appreciate your honesty regarding the car situation. I feel our trip may not be worthwhile if we are so restricted in where we can go. North Uist seems like place to be in the Outer Hebrides so I'll do all I can to be there in the near future. And wow, those corncrakes. Immense viewing, especially as it is a bird that is more often heard than actually seen. I thought i'd mention that the footage of the Ruffs was incredible too. I was unaware you could even get them in Scotland. I'll also compliment the footage of those Black Throated Divers. Possibly my favourite bird, especially in its summer plumage. Yeah, they aren't many people my age interested in birding so it's nice to discuss the hobby with people from time to time. I'll be in Aviemore/Speyside next week and the Isle of Mull during the summer as well so hopefully I have a great birding summer ahead. Nice talking to you Shaun and have a nice day.
