Although I edited out some of the boring parts this was all the same continuous attempt at boarding the station. Inside the ship while orbiting the sun seems to cause a gravity bug (not g-forces as I thought) which is why I had trouble getting back into the pilot seat. Don't worry I figured it out eventually. Interestingly if you break the gravity crystal you don't have this problem, you just float around the ship as you should

Liking just because this genuinely feels like something that would happen in Cowboy Bebop: Spike trying to board a sun station by ejecting from a stolen ship. Complete with the part where momentum sends him flying to the back of the ship.

Fun fact (No spoilers): The first time I tried to land on the sun station, I'm not quite sure what happened but I was orbiting it and crashed into the glass part and clipped through without ejecting, this is the only time I have ever landed on the sunstation ever

once you learn the timing from taking off on a new loop to flying around the sun, it is rather easy to get into orbit around the sun and land on the sun station.

orbital mechanics, man high orbits rotate slower boosting forwards increases orbit, thus eventually moving you backwards

The ship seems to stay in orbit for quite a while by itself when performing the Hotshot achievement, it's just that getting back without turning into a burnt marshmallow is quite hard depending on how long you stay in the Sun Station (You could do the Hotshot achievement, stay on the Sun Station for a single second, then hop back out and into your ship again if you want bragging rights).

by the time i got inside it was so late in the loop the only thing i did was to look at the timer before sun station destruction. it sayed 8 seconds.

It’s extremely hard to exit your ship “normally” when you are close to the sun, due to the strange “gravity” behavior. I’m not really convinced by the explanations I found, it seems more like if the sun gravity was only applied to the ship and not to you, and thus you get projected to the walls - which in turn apply an irresistible centripetal force on you. Anyway, the easiest way to get the achievement for me was using the eject button, like attempted in this vid. Of course you can’t get back to your ship after that, but you can still escape from the sun with your jet pack.

@@DidierLoiseau I think since the Sun's gravity is so intense, it somehow fights against the gravity crystal in your ship. For example, accelerate towards giants deep and don't slow down, then unbuckle and stay inside the ship before you hit the planet's atmosphere. It may have been because I had no spacesuit and I opened the hatch for fun, but I went flying out of the hatch. Also, there was another video of someone editing together his first successful Hotshot attempt alongside the "Docking" scene from Interstellar. I think if you park your ship either at an angle or inside of where the Sun Station's bridge should've been, you might be somewhat alright

@@shibainu2528 I think that's what's happening but I think that because there is a gravity crystal they didn't bother to simulate gravity correctly in your ship, because since you and the ship are both in free fall there shouldn't be any force on you.

Tidal forces are going to be *insane* in a universe like Outer Wild’s where clearly the gravitational constant is much larger, and the length scales much smaller.

Tidal forces are the reason why leaving your ship parked on the sunward side of the Interloper causes it to get picked up as you pass the Sun.

The weird thing is... they clearly _aren't,_ as proven by the size of Brittle Hollow's core. In our universe, a mass the size of the Earth (orders of magnitude larger in diameter, let alone mass, than the entire Hearthian System) crushed into a black hole, would have an event horizon roughly the size of a coin. Brittle Hollow's black hole is at least 10m across, yet you can slingshot around it just fine as long as you don't touch the event horizon itself. Even the mini black hole cores in the warp pads are bigger than an Earth-mass black hole, yet have a gravitational influence... of _zero._ Whatever the universal parameters of the Hearthian Universe are, ALL of them are different from our own, not just gravity.

@@WackoMcGoose Perhaps black holes in the Outer Wilds simply behave differently than what our models predict. After all, they each connect to a white hole instead of everything getting crushed into a singularity.

Took me a couple dozen tries to stick that achievement. even if you manage to park your ship in a fairly stable spot you risk geting flung to the ceiling of your ship the moment you unbuckle and not be able to reach either the exit or the seat agian. then once you manage to get out of the ship you probably ended up too high or low and are missing the station entierly or starting to cook.7

Small tip for anyone trying to do thé achivement: The artificial gravity of your ship works best when you touch the ground (like every crystal in the game), so don't do upwards booster when you leave the seat to go to the hatch, do downwards booster to stick to the ground of the ship

reminds me of my third attempt to get the achivement. I overshot and crashed into the station so hard that when the ship broke, the cockpit clipped through the glass dome and some how counted it as a manual landing-

@@jonnnnn They tell you about it in the village, one guy tells you that he added an emergency ejection button. And I think it was designed to help with the anglerfish or when the ship is critically damaged and you don't want to die in an explosion

@@jonnnnn it helps somewhat with the anglerfish! If you've got an anglerfish behind you, as an emegency measure you can eject to let the fish eat your ship while you yourself escape

It came close to my first docking. I got into a stable orbit near the station, positioned the ship so the gravity would pull me down, opened the hatch and got blown away. The station rotated forward, my ship stayed in stable orbit and was leaving without me. But I don't surrender that easily. I barely escaped the sun heat with low vitals and started to stabilize my orbit again. Finally I found the sweet spot with just the right momentum so I didn't need to adjust the elevation and use thrusters at all, so I've waited for the station to do another rotation and managed to fly inside with Mission Impossible score playing in my mind. Too bad by this moment I've only got a minute left, I was hoping to return to my ship next in a similar fashion.

I was only ever be able to cheese one puzzle in this game by landing my ship somehow on the black hole forge and getting sucked by the artificial gravity cause I was too stupid to figure out how the hell to get there.

soo being flung into the back of the space ship when you unbuckle while orbiting the sun isn't intended, but a bug?? How do you fix that that? Or rather, how do you easily break the gravity crystal in your ship..

There is some debate over whether or not it's a bug, but I believe it is. I don't know of any particularly easy way to break the gravity crystal as it's always somewhat random what breaks and what doesn't, but bashing the left side of the ship against something will do it eventually. A better way to deal with this, which I didn't know until someone else mentioned, is to hold your thrust down button while unbuckling. This seems to work for me, though I'm not really sure why. Using the down thrusters AFTER unbuckling doesn't seem to help at all... I guess it makes sure the game puts you into the grounded state rather than being stuck in the air, something like that.
