Thanks guys. Found out about this via Blacklanderz! Love these discussions. “ The Water is Wide” is no funeral dirge… it is, indeed, about the glories and the vicissitudes of an enduring love. Most folks who were in a high school chorus have sung a version of this folk tune. This a cappella version is stunning. Kudos to the great Bear!

The Water is Wide is the name of the song. I sang it in high school chorus. It's gorgeous. Wikipedia says this and more about its 18th century Scottish origins and enduring popularity. "The Water Is Wide" (also called "O Waly, Waly" or simply "Waly, Waly") is a folk song of Scottish origin. It remains popular in the 21st century. Cecil Sharp published the song in Folk Songs From Somerset (1906). A key ancestor is the lyric Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724), given below. This is a jumble of verses from other lyrics including Arthur's Seat shall be my Bed (1701), The Distressed Virgin (1633) and the Scottish scandal ballad Jamie Douglas (1776). Bear McCreary is a genius. The more I learn about his contribution to the show the more I love what he does.

Most of Bree’s inventions and engineering are yet to come. She did do paper and the ‘fang syringe’ last season. Roger was described as a pirate, only by Bree’s fickle roommate, Gayle. The show did not depict her as such and she never got to see Roger. Claire at times describes him as handsome but nothing that has to do with sexy or the way he dresses.
