Yeah there should be an option for right as soon as you connect the portal it should switch the settings on the ps5 to match the portals standards. Then when you disconnect the ps5 switches back to the settings you had

This is wrong, 4K 120 is for the monitor, your portal defaults to 1080 60 regardless of your screen & video settings for your monitor

@@dremeesto3782 he is wrong even if your ps5 is outputting 4K resolution, your portal does not stream the game at 4K then downscale to 1080p, it just streams a 1080p signal regardless of the output of your ps5 tv/ monitor resolution

@@kelvinwong4671 no because when you use portal your monitor or tv will probably be turned or used my someone-else, so the gpu is just running the game, antenna for WiFi sends a 1080p 30/60fps signal to the portal even if my gpu is outputting 4K 120 hdr vrr allm it doesn’t matter because all it’s doing is running the game & the WiFi chip not the gpu is outputting a wireless video signal to the portal

I just bought one and I love it. I had some leg issues, but I hardwired my PS5 and disconnected the HDMI cable and that went away completely. Nothing like laying down right before bed playing a little bit of games before I crash out.

@@peter1064People allegedly unplug the HDMI because they claim it helps with latency or something. If you can ignore noticeable latency, the PS Portal is probably decent. If you can't ignore noticeable latency, avoid this because it will drive you crazy.

I’m about to get one because my hdmi port is broken and the repair shops want $250 while I already have a messed up controller. Feel like I get 2 for 1 if I just get the portal for rite now, and I can keep the tv on for the family while playing the game still

I just want to say thank you because I’ve been to several videos about the portal and none of them were of any help but the settings that you told me about actually help me. I’ve had my portal since it first came out and it just sits there because all the images when I’m playing are so distorted and lagging And I know it wasn’t my Internet. Everything was updated both on the PS five and the port settings. I tried your help out tremendously. I really appreciate you. Thank you.

Even better just unplug the HDMI cable from your PlayStation that goes to your TV. That way it doesn’t have to process anything going to your TV. The only processing it will do is the streaming to your portal. You’ll notice a huge difference.

@@dylansmith7356We still havent gotten a great seamless way to play pc games on the go. Steam Deck just isn't it for the average person. If you love the worse parts about PC gaming like tinkering with settings, fucking with fanspeeds, messing with resolution/framerate, adjusting TDP, fiddling with proton, editing text files, following guides for hours to get your games to work then you'll love it. I dont know about you but most people want their shit to work out the box when you spend over 500 dollars on a piece of tech. Did I mention the original screen is horrible and that the battery like sucks ass? The shit dies in sleep mode all the damn time. Oh and it updates whenever you power it on. I'm actually scared to turn that shit on cause I know its gonna be another 30 minutes to an hour of updating and I'll need to remember to plug it in cause that shit will kill the battery too. 😂 I could go on about the handheld being too big, the stupid stick placement similar to the wii u to accommodate the touchpads, loud ass fan which the system still finds a way to run hot with, jank official dock, unreliable game compatibility list, jank steam os, jank linux instead of windows...

lol you don’t have to do any of these the only thing I’d recommend is changing the game to performance. All these issues are from people’s routers. Don’t use the 2.4ghz use the 5ghz. Make sure you have a good wifi signal strength this is antenna strength not how fast your internet is. I hear people say all the time I have 1gb internet. That’s cool but if you got a crappy wifi set up it won’t work properly. You don’t need to hard wire your PS5 or change video settings or unplug the HDMI cable you need to get your internet in check. I played on my portal using wifi on the PS5 and the Portal while the PS5 was downloading updates and had absolutely no problems.

You missed the biggest and most important fix for smooth gameplay if playing via WI-FI, change your SSID to 5ghz rather than 2.4ghz.

It’s not the SSID it’s the wireless band. You need a wireless router that has a 5GHz band to connect to. If it dosnt show in the wireless setting your router dosnt have 5GHz.

If your router has a 5G band, use that. At home only my work computer, PS5 and Portal are on the 5G band. Everything else like cell phones, Roku, kids Switch are on the default band.

You don’t have to do any of this the problem people are having is with their own Internet not the PS5. I can guarantee most people are trying to connect using the 2.4ghz band on their router or people are using their built in routers in their service providers modem. Probably have the thing shoved into a cabinet blocking the wifi signals. People really need to beef up their internet get some wifi extenders upgrade their routers and they will notice a big difference in performance. You can’t blame the Portal for being crap when your own intent is probably the problem.

MY NET IS FINE... everything else connects and runs fine even the portal while home... oh but to use this thing on the road?? what a joke!! i still have not been able to connect using the dedicated hotspot I bought! 3 months later and some cellphone hotspots don't connect. While on my hotspot device my Portal wakes PS5 but wont fully connect! i connected both the portal and ps5 to the dedicated device it worked fine. What that tells me the Portal struggles to connect when using two different Networks. I shouldn't have to be an IT agent to get it to work lol. Ridiculous at this point.

It pays my PS5 games flawlessly, the controller just like my PS5 controller (which is very important) and the screen is really good (much better than I anticipated with it not being OLED was my initial worries). I does everything I require and it does very well. My needs play my games remotely whilst and it does all that well and very well. The delusion is what exactly?

Well, that’s a significant oversight and quite an inconvenience if every time I want to play via the Portal I’d have to make sure to change my resolution and frame rate settings on my PS5 and back again when playing in my 4K OLED TV. To boot I heard you can’t even change these settings via the Portal 🤦‍♂️

Instead of changing the display settings on the PS5, since you might want to utilize that 120Hz while playing some games directly on the console… if you know you’re going to use your Portal, just disconnect your HDMI cable from your TV before powering on the portal.

Switch off HDCP from with your PS5 HDMI settings or remove the HDMI from your PS5 when using the Portal altogether. But switching off the HDCP option is working for me currently

Thats great. Unless there's no way to hardwire to your router and you're happy to remember changing the sysyem settings every time you swap between TV and Portal What i want to know is why i can run a speed check sitting next to my PS5 and get 55 DL and 18 UL but the console gets 5.8 UL speed. That's a problem IMO that Sony urgently needs to sort out somehow.

What would be amazing is lobbies and games with that recognize that you’re on a portal and some how change the way the game data is sent to you to reduced latency, but that sounds like a headache seems like a problem for Sony, this is not meant for COD, Siege and heavy multiplayer games

I have the backbone, and it sucks when I'm following a guide to have to keep minimizing the game to try and memorize what the guide said. Edit : Also, the buttons are spongy, and I have to take off my case when I want to use it. The grip is small like the switch joycons and gives my hands cramps... Since it's being held on with tension, it flexes a bit, which bothers me because it's plugged into the usb c port while doing this. Bonus round : While these are kinda throwaway, there are indeed features of the grip locked behind a paywall as well. 😂 I still use it but It's not a great solution for remote play.

The Backbone is inferior to the DualSense haptic feedback features in the Portal. Instead of spending $100 on a sub-par controller for a phone with a small sub-par display, you can spend $200 and get haptic feedback with a factory-calibrated 8" 1080p screen

Instead of changing all of those display setting just unplug the HDMI cable. It works, try it. Made a huge difference. No noticeable lag at all for me after doing that.

This is really done by the device itself. The device can only display up to 60 FPS, so the PS5 goes onto mode and picks up your connected to the PlayStation portal and adjusts accordingly. You do not need to change to 1080P not 60hz. That would be a right keeping switching that all of the time. It auto detect and display to 1080P (full HD) accordingly! 😂

I bought the PS Portal even if I use Chiaki on my Steam Deck and Legion Go. So far my PS Portal experience is seemless so far. My PS5 is connected only via Wifi(5Ghz) and didn't change anything. Only thing that makes my PS Portal have a bad resolution(pixelated 240p) and laggy frame rate is when my PS5 is downloading a game.

Idk what sony did I got the new beta firmware update and the portal has run flawlessly for me now. I saw the tiniest amount of lag now. I had little lag to beginning with but now I can't tell. I was playing away from home the other day and I was so immersed into god of war ragnarok I was battling the berserkers and was dodging and hitting everything coming at me. The past few weeks I wasn't able to do so. But instead of getting upset I just knew this is not a game to play on the portal. That's not the case now.

🤔 it still streams from wifi though so how does hardwiring it make it better? Also it doesn't try to out put the max settings to something that can't support it in the first place. If you want less lag, make sure you have a stable connection throughout your house, wifi extenders are great investments regardless of owning this, make sure you have enough UP and DOWN speeds to maintain a solid connection, and most importantly check to see if anyone else is on your wifi network causing a lot of traffic to slow it down. The further away someone is with a weak signal, your router will prioritize download and upload speed to them causing everything else to dip in speed and quality. Hope this actually helps.

I did all of that, didn't work. I also configured my router so that 5ghz wifi is dedicated to the portal, no changes, still lots and lots of micro stutters. My router supports wifi 6 and I play with it in line of sight, no obstructions. Then I installed chiaki on my legion go and it runs flawlessly so that was it for me, returning my portal now. Will try again when a better version is released.

PSP was the best thing Sony made since the PlayStation too. Unfortunately it was too ahead of it’s time. Switch came out and shut that competition down.

The switch doesn’t compare. Never did. Can you play god of war on a switch? No. Even without GOW it had countless other games and not to mention the movies also.

Don't use Portal when you are downloading a update or a game, it will lag out if downloading anything.

My tv doesn’t support 1080p does it get better performance with out the 1080p and my ps5 is connected to the Ethernet cable and I’m doing this for my remote play app. Do you get the best quality with 2190p?

Resolution and Framerate on the PS5 won't affect the streaming quality. It doesn't downscale it or anything it's just the video signal its sending. It's streaming 1080p 60hz no matter what.

Actually, if the PlayStation is connected to a 4K HDR TV, it will output to the TV at 4K with HDR and simultaneously downscales that to 1080p for remote play. This is why a lot of people report that disconnecting their PS5 from their TV eliminates input delay.

I can confirm it does affect it but the easiest way to fix it is to unplug the HDMI cable going to the TV and then nothing is transmitted. Now my portal has zero noticeable lag. It runs perfect now.

@@xB00MSTARunplug from either end. It doesn’t matter as long as the signal from the PS5 doesn’t have an active connection. Maybe it will be fixed with a firmware update. It doesn’t seem as bad now with the latest firmware update but still helps.
