The cliche of 'bad writing' is thrown around by supervisors, peer reviewers and juts from our own internal dialogue. That's bad writing. Using Ben Yagoda's book How not to write bad (!!!), we explore how to remove the excesses, the errors and structural challenges in our writing to enable clarity and readability. Big shout out to Max!

I have some good to share with you Tara! I passed my MA thesis proposal defence and I also won a CGS-M Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to fund my research project on Aleister Crowley and queerness! Thanks so much for all you do. You're truly a mentor!!! Participating from USask, Saskatoon, Canada!🏆🎓

"it is a lens that darkens all possible interpretations and commentaries about your research" - I just LOVE that. The use of the word 'lens' is so overdone, but really USING that idea to explain the function of the 'lens' is fantastic. Absolutely going to try and work more with the word 'lens' in my work now! 🙌

Amanda - I so agree with you. Lens is overdone. But where I think it is useful is as a (post)metaphor. So an actual lens that transforms the vision / vista. And in the case of bad writing - it is a lens that hurts our interpretations as scholar... Biggest hug - hope you are fab :) txxx

Amazing your video. Loved your key points about how writing involves two things: thinking of an idea and then moving it from your mind onto a page - so important. "Being a writer is being courageous." - Tara Brabazon. Your five points at the end were valuable, too. Thank you for this!

I have almost finished reading Stephen Kings book, referred to in this Outrider. What a good read. I love particularly when he refers to writers as being transcribers for divine thoughts, wow. We all know that feeling when we are attuned to the greater good when we write something that transcends the ordinary. Thanks Tara and to the student who raised the question about bad writing😊.
