Next time try rotating the lower heating element up without removing it. Just back out the two screws holding the element half way out. (Not necessary to remove the screws.) Reinstall the top oven rack in the highest position. Rotate the lower heating element up just high enough to get your hand under the element supports. The heating element can be held up with a wire or string that is attached to the upper rack while you are cleaning the bottom of the oven. Also, it is a lot easier to work on the oven if you remove the oven door. Check KZfaq for videos on how to remove the oven door. It is easy to do. Just use correct body mechanics to make sure you don't hurt your back. Oven doors can be on the heavy side and a little awkward to handle. Thanks for the video.

I use a scraper (a single-edged razor blade in a handle thingy). It works the best.

Wow,snow already?!!!!!! I need to do mine on a very cold day as it's a self - cleaning one.I've not had to clean it in 3 years I think.I wipe it down as much as I can.I clean my stove top once a week or more.Believe it or not I miss the non self - cleaning ovens.I liked to spray the Easy Off then wipe it down with a half a roll of paper towels.I would go back and wipe it down more with damp paper towels.As for your oven,if it was mine,I'd just pour down some very hot soapy water with a drop or 2 of Dawn and white vinegar.Let it sit a bit and then start wiping up.I'd be too chicken to touch or remove anything.My glass door is dirty and I won't be unscrewing the screws to get to it etc.I just clean the inside and outside,not the middle which needs it.

Just a tip be careful so the cleaning fluid doesn’t splash on your legs and feet when putting fluid in plastic bag. It happened to me and my foot swelled and became extremely sore for a day. I was careless so just take care try and wash it with cold water and even soak the sore bits. I put gloves on so my hands were fine. It was my own fault I was very careless with splashing the caustic fluid. Just a little tip.

We have used a couple of different brands, not sure what...but we look for the words (no fumes)...so much less toxic

Hey Tom it's been a while I'll have to shoot you a email soon it's been busy for me the last two years I did relocate from Michigan to Florida and I also have 4 dogs one crazy boy chocolate lab and a yellow lab crazy girl and my two beagles. Speaking of ovens I'm replacing a bad heating element. And yours is only on a double 40 amp lol mine is on a double 50amp breaker.

If you're cleaning twice a year, wouldn't it be easier to place aluminum foil at the bottom covering it all up? Then toss it twice a year.

What size screw do you need? Mine look round

@AngetRodman-yl4wf, If your oven heating element screw heads are round you probably need to use a screwdriver. Check to see if there are cross slots (either x shaped for Phillips or -- shaped for blade type). You may have to scrape out crusty grease with an ice pick to find the slots.

@AngelRodman-yl4wf Also see my comment earlier today @rjserra5535 regarding removing the oven door and holding the lower heating element up with a wire. It will make it a lot easier to clean your oven. Just find a strong person to help you with the oven door.

They sell a small kit that has several types of screw driver heads that can be placed into the handle that comes with it. You can also just leave the heating element there and clean around it too. I have done that when it is too hard to remove.
