If you have a pension or Social Security you can’t ever run out of money. You might get a little short but not out!

You run out of money when you can't pay for what you really want in your budget that makes your life worth living.

@@rickb2537what was the old saying, “A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and thou!” Life itself is all that you should need. A home to keep the elements at bay, good food to eat, and someone to share it with. That makes me a rich man in my opinion.

@@stevelopez372 Well, that is pretty important. Just saying if you don't want to forgo the things in retirement that you really like, your plan better be sufficient to encompass those things.

@@stevelopez372 We like to fly over to the Philippines and spend some winter months in our house and enjoy the warmth and beauty of that land. And enjoy the company of my wifes family.

I feel ya,....after running a series of Monte Carlo scenarios on my retirement brokerage firm websites,...by plugging in all my information,..the results were that I had a 99% likelihood of NOT running out of money before I reached the age of 103. So you and your wife can worry about it at 95,....and I will worry about it at age 104. Lol!!

Josh...if I have a 60/40 portfolio...then when I start to take $ out for retirement income, during down years can I simply just take funds from the 40% of bonds/fixed and not take money out of 60% from stocks? Is this not a simplified version of the barbell idea?

Why live in hell and die and go to hell? Repent and retire with Jesus in heaven. Whether you live to be 65 or 105 this is not your final destination. Be blessed

Absolutely. I am retired and doing very well. Spend lots of time with my adult children and grandchildren. And yes I have traveled to many places. I am truly Blessed. But I know my best life is yet to come, thankyou Jesus.

Social security won't stop (unless the fund runs dry) and will keep coming in. 401k and even Pensions can run dry for sure. And if you live to 100, sure your gonna be tight. Trust in God and pray for the best outcome :)
