I have a fairly large collection of Sempervivum. Cold hardy succulents are some of my favorite plants, and I have been growing and collecting them for many years. All of the featured Semps were grown with organic growing methods. I try to use sustainable growing practices as much as possible.

Very nice and inspiration. I had a big semp rock garden with 328 cultivars in the 80's and now trying to reproduce it again. You're a great inspiration in that direction! Thank you.

Lovely. I am just beginning to work w/cold hardy succs myself. I've got my stonecrop sedum planted this year but the hen & chicks are next on my list. I could only dream of having half of what you have. I adore the succs in the flower garden & envy those in the areas that can grow theirs outside year round. Thanks for the spectacular show

Cold hardy succulents are so much fun and bring interest year round. You're going to love Sempervivum. If you decide to collect, you'll have a big collection in no time. You are very welcome, and thank you.

They're al beauties. I'd have a hard time picking a favorite. I only have two which I recently found at Home Depot and am excited that one of them is going to bloom. Still have my tray of babies but just aren't getting any bigger so am thinking about taking them out from under the lights and move outside and see if they will take off. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I find that I'm always saying, "This one is my favorite." I'm sure that you know this, but make sure that you gradually get them use to the sunlight. Thanks again, and have an awesome Saturday.

Great looking plants! I'm just starting out, ordered plants and they are under lights waiting to be put out this spring. I was wishing for name tags that we could see so I could get the ones I liked. How much grit did you add to your garden soil before putting in the semps?

Do you have a specific video on the substrate mixture that you use in your semp beds?
@veggedout1030
@veggedout1030 7 жыл бұрын
Wisconsin Wonder Garden No video yet, but it's on the list. The mix is hardly ever the same; I'm a big experimenter. Outside or inside, the name of the game is drainage, especially if your area has a lot of rainfall. I avoid high nitrogen amendments and fertilizers too. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great Sunday.

Can I grow these in Miami zone 10?

What part of the country are you located? What zone? Anything that you have done differently since you have started the bed? Great looking plants.

I'm in Ohio, Zone 6. This bed started as a vegetable garden, with lots of drainage. I added a pea gravel mulch and haven't done much to the bed in years. I add a little succulent mix with each new planting, but that's it. However, the entire bed needs renewed. There were actually three raised beds in this area, and I'm in the process of removing everthing and constructing new beds. What a process too! Thank you, and have a great weekend ahead.

For sempervivums, i find those are difficult to grow, i gave mine a bed with a lot of perlite, water them once a week to a month, only when the soil looks dry, but a lot of them just either swelled up and rot or dryed up, is there anyway to get them only the water that they need?

I get adequate rainfall where I live, so I rarely water my established Semps that are outside in beds. It's possible that you are watering too much. Usually when they swell up and rot, that means that they are full of water. Most succulents appreciate some neglect. Thanks, and have fun out there.

thank you for your replying, i'll be sure to change around and experimenting (just afraid they gonna die all by the time i figured out :') ) i'm really new to sempervivums (others like echeveria and sedums are doing really fine) , only about 1 months of handlings and learning about them, while i've been learning about others long ago and got them about 2 months ^^

Khang Chau Hi there. How are your Sempervivums doing? I got curious. Wel l think Sempervivums are the easiest plant ever. It's name says it all. Sempervivum means always alive.. l live in The Netherlands and l just don't water them.. Just never ever ever. They are all outside and they live from the rain and they live happy.. I have only one kind under the lights. It is the Rosularia and l water this one. but not so often as other Succulents that are under the same ligths. My Succulents can diy earlier from NOT having enough water than TOO much water. I hope yours are doing fine. Happy 2018
