I just got mine! Wow, just WOW!! The improvements are many and one, in particular, surprised me greatly. There is one fantastically curvey road that my sportbike club in my area use and abuse. We hold nothing back and almost every Sunday it turns into a TT race lol. Normally I fill up on gas before hitting it and my BMW S1000RR gives me a range of about 155miles when full. Before the dampener, after pushing hard through this road, my range would fall to about 55miles remaining. This Sunday I got to test out the Oversuspension and at the end of the run, my range was at 90miles remaining. This product calmed my bike down so much I found that I was not having to use trail brake and then push my engine as much to get back to full power after heavy curves and corners allowing me to save a giant amount of fuel. This is just one of the many improvements I found.

Lots of good info, but a few mistakes too. One is the example of sitting at the back of the bus - very different than putting a mass damper at the end of the swingarm. Back of the bus would be similar to why Ducati places theirs in the tailsection, another time when he fails to accurately describe the situation. Kind of surprised its use in F1 wasn't discussed. Lots of info out there about that, if you enjoyed this video you should watch those. Mass dampers have been around for a very long time and are thoroughly understood. The author of this video far overstates the benefits for road bikes. You will only see them used in extreme cases where damaging oscillations occur. For example, buildings in southern California will have them but buildings in Indiana will not. In the same was racing motorcycles will have them and road going motorcycles will not.
@ChasingTenths

Thanks for the feedback mate , much appreciate it, please watch Part 1 of the video , in there I discuss buildings, trains, F1 Renault 2005-06 car, pylons and quite a lot of things. The bus example is from Transport of London buses, I spoke to them to clear my doubts and they mentioned that the main reasons they started putting engines at the back was to counter the Giddiness please were feeling in the bus, the engine and torsion bars acted as a sort of mass damper which counter acted any undue back movement. I really appreciate the time you took to see the video in detail. I really request you to watch part 1.

@@ChasingTenths I agree about the bus, however that maps to the Ducati arrangement but not the swingarm mounted location you were trying to compare to. Here at @DMrPerformanceSuspension we have been developing a mass damper for a few years. It's tricky to get tuned correctly and reliant on variables such as tire construction, so I am struggling with a mass-produced product.

Just spoke to a ‘racing contact’ at Ducati. He seemed to suggest that this damper shown on the the Motogp Ducati was merely to assist with preserving the Integrity of the ECU and other electronic sensors located in the carbon fibre ‘Lunch Box’ on their motogp bike, as without it their electronics would get shaken to bits. As you are probably all aware, that’s where Ducati located a lot of their electronics. It was mentioned that the bike could be a bit ‘vibey’ and the dampers help to reduce the chatter and shake in the tail section of the motorcycle. This guy isn’t a tech on the Motogp team, but is part of the racing programme for Ducati. I’d love to see more data on this from an actual racing team though for sure! 👍

Hats off to a well produced video, I wish I had the time to produce such quality with the graphics etc. I work in BSB as a Crew Chief and run my own suspension company (i've worked for Ohlins), I have seen said data from our Superbikes as we have tried this device but bear in mind it was given to us by the company who made this device. It did not benefit in any way, the data from the bike shows this clearly it made no difference to the issue it was supposed to combat! You have to remember every mechanical device will give the rider a placebo effect when you tell them a device will make something better! My friends in WSB who work for some major teams as Crew Chiefs have also tried this device, it ended up in the spare parts bin. Remember with clever marketing you can sell anything...I was contacted by Nicola about selling his device 2 years ago along with just about every known suspension company in the UK-none of us chose to sell this device. I asked for real data and none was forthcoming, I would not recommend any product without intricate knowledge of the product design/application and its proven worth but I am an engineer. In my opinion you really need to get the basics right first, springs/damping and geometry as expensive bling does not solve an ill handling bike ever and if you have a bike that has no handling issues, you should really NOT have to spend £400.00 on a device to make a good bike better.
@ssrsuspension8247

Also ref the Ducati, that device that was first seen in the GP is not quite the same. I have read the technical paper and even Moto GP Engineers stated that they could not proove the worth of a mass damper system due to the complexities of tuning frequencies found within the chassis of a Moto GP Bike. But as you know Moto GP is experimental, alot of Tech is as the cutting edge of the Motorcycle Industry.
@DynamixsEd
@DynamixsEd 3 жыл бұрын
@@ssrsuspension8247 This raises a few questions. What frequencies were you specifically aiming to attenuate? How did you tune the device to the specific requirements? And what damping ratio were you aiming for? I assume you didn't just fit it and run it?
@ssrsuspension8247
@ssrsuspension8247 3 жыл бұрын
@@DynamixsEd thats something you'd have to ask the Crew Chief/Data engineer on the affected bike and probably info they would not share - yes the team tried the device thru its range of settings and yes on the data you could see that the device beared no effect to resolution. (Do feel free to email me to discuss further). During a race weekend setup time is minimal, official testing is also minimal, be great to have a week in spain testing countless setups but then we return to the UK and the setup has to evolve to our topography/climatic conditions. Currently as we speak a friend of mine is in Spain testing this device with a WSB team, he has said that as a mechanical device yes it works mechanically but it is not a bolt on device that is plug and play, they are trying variances in frequencies, currently testing on 800hz. Theoretically if such a device increases grip (this is a simple SAG mass damper) - it would increases acceleration out of corners and reduce yaw velocity at corner entry. There would be Zero benefit if the device was NOT tuned and/or kinematic/dynamic setup of the bike not changed. This would certainly not be a plug and play device and remember this device was aimed initially at race teams not a track day rider, road rider which is where it appears to be marketed now. How many road riders or trackday riders would test and adjust correctly as thats alot of track time. you have to start at the basics with correct springs/damping rates and tyre pressures for the carcass before all else. You may or may not be surprised how many people would rather throw a fancy exhaust on vs having their suspension optimised for their weight/pace/discipline and how many people do not look after their tyres properly. The Race Team market is a very limited market, business run at the end of the day to make profit, if it was as good as all that every team would be after one would they not? The settings of the device have to be changed and tuned depending upon your carcass design, your shock setting would also require fine tuning. The info for tuning the device on the site confuses many, but it is a simple sag mass damper so you just adjust the preload on the device accordingally which requires a bit more than guess work to get an effective setting. Its not to say the device can't work, its to say it is not the simple bolt on device that it is plugged as.

@@ssrsuspension8247 thank you for this detailed answer from someone who is in the know. I am no boffin by any means but when it comes to motorcycle suspension I am of the view that nothing can ever be plug and play. There is simply no way a device can work for every weight of rider on every type of bike. One rider uses Pirelli the other uses Bridgestone. It's just impossible. Then add the fact they want you to tune it on feel without data?? How is that even possible if most riders can't even feel if their normal suspension is working? Slapped a ton of go faster bits on my bike but the biggest time jumps came from proper tyres being used in the proper manner and paid a suspension technician to set the bike up for my weight and pace.

Hello - the principle of using a tuned mass damper to "damp" out chatter (seismic osculation of the unsprung mass) is sound. But, the mass damper needs to be tuned to the same natural frequency as the device you wish to damp. Does this product offer different different bouncy masses and spring rates to tune? I'm very wary of a one-size-fits-all solution. For example, a Ducati 848, using stock wheels on a single sided swing arm (heavy) with a Pirelli tire (soft spring) and softer shock spring will have a much lower natural frequency than a ZXYFZRRR with a lighter dual sided swingarm, aftermarket wheels, (light) and Dunlop tires (stiff).

Yes, absolutely you make a lot of sense Todd, and this it has various settings , it’s not one size fits all Have a look at a video on Cali moto Tv KZfaq channel , they did a video recently with well known suspension guru Dave moss , especially on this device , that would explain everything in practical terms

Hi mate , the figure is 90 percent , however as mentioned in the video unfortunately it’s the race team’s testing data from the Barni Racing team and because they are currently using that device in world super bikes with Marco Melandri (2020-21), under no circumstances they are prepared to release that information, I have asked the factory 3 times now and the response is no. The data comes from Michele Pirro and Michael Rinaldi testing the bike relentlessly in 2018 to 2019 with the device on. However , I will be doing a 3rd video on this device with hopefully if I gain something from that race team’s data until then we’ll just have to take their word for it .

If you want feedback, here's why I havn't purchased one. Just one man's opinion. The reason is that while you show great theory, I don't see it in a demo of some kind, and not enough testimonials from real riders not being paid by the company. But as the say goes, if theory matched the real world result, we'd all be communists (ok ok some of us are too stupid to learn from history, but that's another thread all together). What the OEM of this product should do, is take a GoPro and show the rear tire on a road with lots of undulations, particularly on the corner. Show the bike from a macro and micro view. THEN do the same with your oversuspension. PROVE how the tire stays planted with the device and how the chatter causes slip without it. You do that ? And you'll prove your case and people will buy. At this point, it's too new, and it's not cheap enough to be an impulse buy.

Do you have some more info? Did you test for yourself? I have serious doubts about this product because placing a damper in a salad box or in the swingarm is not the same as adding at the end of the swingarm ...
@ChasingTenths
@ChasingTenths 3 жыл бұрын
Swingarm is actually an excellent place to put this , That’s where they put it on the British Superbike Ducati and World Superbike Ducati , MOTOGP are prototype bikes, the R and D for them is totally ok different level, and like I mention in the video , they can put the damper where ever their rider tells them to put or sensors . In Moto2 they put it on the swingarm, and front axle. Due to lockdown all my euro Trackdays are cancelled : Almeria 3 days , Jerez 3 days , Portimao 4 days and I had tests planned with another Aprilia , same bike, same rider weight , we both even do same laptimes but unfortunately coronavirus spoiled everything. I will test it in U.K. on the one day Trackday not I think in one day I don’t think a thorough test can be done but I will still try . Other people have tried this in Italy, Portugal and Spain and everyone’s feedback has been positive. But I will make a third video on it , on the track with hopefully some sensors in the swingarm and I will post it. The science behind the product is proven otherwise major race teams wouldn’t use it , plus they never release the data on it which is frustrating, as it’s race data

It makes work Every Tc Better....when a Tc works it causes many vibrations on the rear...this device reduce or nullify this vibration and keep the tyre in contact with tarmac....it also reduce sliding and tyre temperature and consumption ...
@ChasingTenths
@ChasingTenths 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate , seems like Andrea explained it quite well. Electronic aids have actually got nothing to do with this device but on the contrary when this device nullifies the oscillations it prevents electronic aids to come on and reduce the power. TC works through torque reduction . And this device makes sure that you have a constant contact patch so electronic aids don’t even intervene and reduce power or unpredictability. When ABS comes on it causes huge vibrations so this counters that. Improved handling is purely by stabilisation of rear and front, and better contact patch so you get better grip and dynamic ride-ability. The bike goes through many changes, vibrations, oscillating movements... and some vibrations are good and they get countered by tyre, chassis , swingarm and a good rear shock but many vibrations get missed out which can trigger instability. 1 vibration is measured in 1 hertz and any undue hertz which cause issues get countered by this device . That’s why it’s used in WSBK, MOTO3 , MOTO2 and MOTOGP plus F1 in 2005-06 (Renault F1, it was too effective on aero so it was Banned by the FIA)

I totally agree mate, I am personally waiting to do a 4 day test at either the Portimao or Almeria circuit to test this out myself . At the moment I have only done one day Trackdays in the U.K. and I deliberately not tested it yet plus I upgraded my suspension to ohlins FGR front and TTX GP rear , so the bike has totally changed in feel so that’s why I can’t wait to put the over suspension device to a full test on a euro 4 day event , feedback from riders from Italy , Spain and Portugal and two from New Zealand and some Americans has been excellent... the science behind this device makes sense and it’s proven and now it’s used in world superbikes and British superbikes ... so let’s see , personal opinions are definitely subjective .... thanks for watching mate I really appreciate it

Yes, this year I did 9 Trackdays on it in the fast group . I found the differences subtle but they were certainly noticeable at certain points for example when my rear grip was gone & home out of corners , the slide was beautiful & progressive. No nasty surprises , the rear end feels much more stable , even on braking hard the rear was much stable , mid corner there is stability too but it’s all very subtle and hence I deliberately didn’t have this on my bike last year as I totally upgraded my suspension but this year I feel definitely there is a sublime difference

One thing that leaves me questioning the effectiveness of this product is... If it’s such a ‘big thing’ in racing suspension, Why aren’t Ohlins already manufacturing them as bolt on kits for road & race applications?? Because I’ll tell you this for nothing.. Having spent a LOT of time with the Ohlins lot, there isn’t much if anything they don’t know when it comes to motorcycle suspension!

I agree with you mate and so sorry for the late reply ... these dampers are on some touring road bikes but in electronic form like the BMW GS and the New Honda too, I already had a conversation with ketch and ohlins about this, the reason they don’t make this is purely for Cost cutting , it just costs bike manufacturers too much and it’s hard to just to justify to the accountants the reasoning behind such innovation and gains

Great explanation of the principle behind the mass damper, but have you actually tried and tested this product before you give the sales pitch. I am sceptical of how useful this is to the average rider, I have no doubt before race teams are using it that it helps but they have a team of date analysists to set up to perfection. I would say if it can prevent a high side if it is set up correctly then it’s probably more likely to cause a high side if it is set up wrong, plus have you read the instructions on the web site fairly vague to say the best. In your next video you should try the product to see if it is worth club racers and track day rider investing in this product before you plug it too hard and it ends up being just a lump of metal for £300.
@ChasingTenths
@ChasingTenths 4 жыл бұрын
Kris Johnston no mate, it won’t cause a high side if installed incorrectly. It will just not work properly. I haven’t personally tried it as all my trackdays have been refunded due to the lockdown . But 4 people I know who are quick riders and have tried this and it’s worked for them . Rest we will learn along as this thing gets common . Installing this device isn’t quantum physics, you just have to adjust it properly and calibrate it, plus I have spoken to the company . They are always there to give a helping hand over the phone if someone struggles. 7 other guys I know who have bought it, everyone is just waiting for tracks to start again

also who owns the company and who gave the secret (lol) data to the italian acu and who in the italian acu got this ruling approved, have any of these people any link to the company selling these? Either yes or the Italian acu are scientifically illiterate. Examples look ridiculous, a weight oscillating and then its counteracted by the same size weight, then you have a miniture baby weight mass damper attached to a 190kgs bike osciliating with force, what a snake oil sham this is, but hey fools and their money..........
