SW France. Pontoon boats are for lakes on calm days, not the open ocean.

I’m in south Florida and I agree. But the forecast is not always so precise and often the mouth of the inlet is the roughest so people try to push it and get through to squeeze a nice boat day out despite not having a craft to match the conditions.

The Sea Ray @10:10 is powered by Inboard engines, not 450R Mercury's outboard racing engines.

Finally a boat from Maine... i live in Maine.. i tried many times to apply to Hinkley and another boat company that did 🎶🎙🎹 billy joel's boat.. that's how he got into boat building company . Hinkley boat company makes beautiful boats there..

Low bridge over that inlet means most sailboats probably can't use it. The bridge clearance is only 32' and any decent sized sailboat will need much more vertical clearance than that. A Catalina 30 has a mast height of almost 46' as an example. The Catalina 22 is I believe the largest Catalina that can clear that bridge. The next largest needs 45'.

Curious as to why there isn’t much aluminum boats down there? Up on the west coast of Canada aluminum boats are everywhere. A newly fabricated boat out of the shop all shiny is very nice to see.

A lot especially with todays fuel prices, but I imagine they aren’t bothered, the engines themselves aren’t cheap, let alone running triple or quadruple 400 mercs.

Question for the experts: Taking the boat shown with 6 Merc 450Rs @ 2,700 hp as the example. How fast could that boat go under optimum conditions and how fast could it go with just 3 Merc 450RS under the same exact conditions? Would the performance increase justify the $180,000 +- additional cost?

The Cigarette tiranna 59 has a top speed of ~80 mph. I can't say for sure what it would do with only three engines but it is a very large boat, I would be surprised if it could go much past 50 with only three. My grady white 34' which is a far smaller boat does about 43 with 700 hp, it weighs about 16,000 lbs. The cigarette weighs 40,000 lbs, that's a lot of extra water to displace, at that weight with 1350 hp it would have a lower power to weight (read power to displacement) ratio than my grady, though with a more speed oriented hull design.

That thing wouldn’t even get on plane with three motors. It’s a big and heavy boat. Four would be highly strung out as well.

@@flacjacket The weight of the water it displaces is only a factor when the hull is operated at displacement speeds. Once on a plane, it's mostly surface drag, both aero and hydro... mostly hydro.

The general rule of thumb when it comes to drag is that if you want to go twice as fast, you need four times the power. For the sake of argument, let's say that boat goes, eh... 85 MPH with all six at full song. I'll let you do the math going the other way when you take half the power away.

Remarkable footage - seeing that water makes me wanna be there and JUMP IN! so wonderful, swimming there. Some real beauties here (I mean the boats...) with the exception of that Dutch boat - no, thanks. Unpleasant looking, no style. Seeing that boatful of gals, waving and drinking: someone elsewhere in the world could/will form a picture of "what America is like"....rather like thinking hollywood movies are actually real.

What is REALLY SHOCKING, is that in the boats in distress have passengers who don't know how to properly put on an orange life vest! They fiddle with the straps, and don't know how to use them to make the device work in an emergency! People are just STUPID!

At work we wear ones that are simply a vest, zip it up then clip the straps. But you should also know how to use, know which life jacket is yours, and wear it before even getting in the boat, tighten the straps so the life jacket doesn’t ride up or in worst case, come completely off while submerged.
