Overbuilt...but why? Vanity PART 2

is it cabinetry or furniture? A hybrid building approach to a white oak bathroom vanity...In part 1 of this build, we covered various joinery methods to make this white oak vanity part furniture/part cabinet and a bit modular so it could be transported and installed. Now, with the overall construction done, we can turn our attention to doors and hinges, drawers and undermount slides and then apply an oil/wax finish and then the final installation. Of course, not everything went to plan, but this white oak vanity found a home in a cozy bathroom ready for years of watery drips and spilled toothpaste. #kjsawdust #keithjohnsonwoodworking #woodworking

Dude - I absolutely love the level of detail you go into when it comes to the mistakes you make or the inconsistencies in your table saw/sled. Those little bits are invaluable to woodworkers who are trying to improve their skill sets. So often, I see guys building these beautiful pieces and never have spacing or squaring issues (or at least, never showing them). Its aggravating as can be, because I run into them with a fair deal of regularity. So, thanks for including them and showing how you go about resolving the problems!

Out of the woodworking channels i have found, you're one of three that still makes build videos. Thank you for still doing build videos.

‘Sometimes, I like to get this perfect.’ - KJ. Not sometimes, Keith, but all the time. You are the epitome of perfection! That was a very complicated build, but I really like the results. It makes such a difference when you match the grain of the door components and draws too, that it looks so uniform and super high quality. The guys always tease you about how particular you are when choosing grain on the Shop Sounds pod, but it’s absolutely worth it when you get results like this. Once again, I tip my hat to you, Sir.
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Жыл бұрын
Much appreciated, Chris!! The strive for perfection can be a curse sometimes since it's not really achievable, but I always have a quality target I'm shooting for and if that's take a little longer, I'm OK with that 😉👍

@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking. I always enjoy your builds, Keith. The level of detail you show your audience, I can’t help but learn so much from you. Along with less than a handful of other channels, you’re an inspiration! With this one, it was timber choice, grain matching, glue type, pocket screws, Lamello, Domino, reveals, new draw slides, new hinges, pre-finishing, a different Rubio finish, fixing mistakes and damage (it was a great fix, by the way), assembly, disassembly, and installation… and I just know I’ve missed some! 17 months ago, after 3 years of college classes at night time, I decided to change careers and I went from being a bicycle mechanic and salesman for 22 years, to working as a cabinet and furniture maker, so your videos are invaluable, Keith. Keep up the great work and all the best to you.

I am a furniture maker and I am currently recuperating from shoulder surgery and cannot go back into the shop for quite a bit. So watching your vids is keeping my sanity intact (thank you)! Thanks for putting out great content with all the wins and challenges that come with all (y)our projects come with. Sorry if someone has already asked this- I didn't scroll completely through all your comments, but what is the brand of the magnetic roller featherboard you are using on your table saw? Thanks in advance and keep it up!

Can you add a link for the 3/32” spacer blocks that were used to square the door reveals? This was a great tip!

Google Woodpeckers setup blocks. You can’t buy them individually. They come in a boxed sets. I just happen to have multiple sets.

Cheesus, you are the FIRST person I've seen address the drawer front drop issue. I've been struggling with that one with Blum slides. I'll have to try your counter balance method.

What kind of wood movement are you expecting with panels that have an MDF core? Wouldn't that mean the panels themselves are delaminating?

I absolutely love your videos. Good commentary. Your speaking style is fun and natural. This project has sooooo many steps in the work flow process. Do you write your work flow down or just keep track of it in your head?
