Glad you got one to tinker with! It's a nice little board. It's nice yours was able to go a bit further (I think some of the engineers mentioned the board they sent me was from a very slightly earlier batch before full production line testing was in place, so new Pi 5s people actually buy should probably work similar to the one you have! (We'll see if some crazy folks can get 3.2, 3.3, or 3.4 GHz!)

These speeds will hopefully get more compatibility going with old windows stuff. Pi4 I can play Half-life. I'd like to play Halo once again and see WINE destroy actual WIndows at most things. Geez Twister OS is going to need an update to work.

2:05 The CM4 is 2.0 x1, not x2 as you mentioned. The connector on the Pi 5 is x1, not x4 as you mentioned. The interconnect between the BCM2712 and RP1 is x4.

I was also surprised by that assertion. Would have been nice to have PCIe x4 but for around 60 or 80 pounds we need to be realistic.

Well done. I got the one I got to play with for a couple of days to 2.8 using the stock cooler. Glad to see people who know what they are doing can get it quite a bit further. I'm happy with 2.8. I'll get my own when they become available.

Great video! I like the idea of pushing it to 3.1ghz! I always have my Pi4 at 2.1ghz, and put the entire board next to the screen of my opened window, since I had no fan on it. But I can't wait to get the Pi5 and run it at 3.4ghz hanging it out of my window!! Cheers from Detroit!

A most excellent RPi5 video. For me it is the new RPi5 with all the GPIO PWM, I2C, SPI turnkey working OpenCV-examples. 🥳 The spinoffs mostly lack GPIO examples. 😎 Thank you.

A normal overclok pi4 would be, I think, over_voltage=6 arm_freq=2000 gpu_freq=750 with active cooler. With this specs what would the difference be in bench?

My biggest fear with the Pi 5 is the scalper market. I would love to have one for a project upgrade and another for my NAS as support unit but I know these things will sell out instantly unless I stay awake the day it releases so I can get one the second it goes on sale.

Seems like it is a mixed bag when it comes to overclocking, Jeff's review board was limited to 2.8GHz - missing the headphone jack might be detramental long term (ala iPhone), but if you are an audiophile, there are still lotsa RPi options - on the other hand, missing USB on the PCIe connector means no SATA by default (which normally just needs a USB-SATA bridge chip), at minimum it means less data lanes on the PCIe, but some might say NVMe is faster anyway

Nice! Stable at 3.1Mhz. As you say there are faster SBC's out there, but personally I stick with Raspberry for the support. Roll on the end of October, it'll be a nice Christmas present

Can you put this head to head with a zima board? I think the Zima board is a better buy. I think it would end up actually even being cheaper since you would need to buy a lot of accessories for this to have all of the features the Zima board has.

Mine easly overclocks to 3.2 Ghz and 1100 on the gpu with no overvoltage. Haven't tried higher speeds. I'm just using it with batocera. Temps stay around 57 degrees C playing Wii Games .. *edit PS: The longest run I did was about 5 hours and it was stable that whole time.

It can‘t be 3.2GHz as the firmware is locked to max 3GHz. It can show 3.2 but in reality it works at 3

If you need a portable battery powered computer with an LCD, maybe. If you need control something with gpio, maybe not. If you need 200 identical devices for some purpose, probably not.

I do want an RPI 5, but the fan is a deal breaker for me because I need absolute silence, just like RPI 1 to 4 delivered. Unless a passive heatsink can do the job of properly cooling the 5 it's no use to me 😢 I guess you could strap a cut-down Intel heatsink on it, but then it's no longer "small".

Who cares? This PI 5 is no longer a cheap hobbiest's board - a lot of people have moved on to cheap used liter PCs from eBay that are way more powerful - and cheaper - not to mention way better drivers already available and 60 FPS video on sites like KZfaq without issue. I understand the use of this for smaller projects and ones that use way less power and respect that too. My opinion. Nice job on the video.

I was surprised you didn't have one in advance. Four years is a long time since RPi 4. The price keeps going up, and now most people will buy the cooling system, the RTC battery, and the M.2 adapter. Since they moved around the ports again, I think they should have changed the board size to provide at least one full-sized HDMI and an M.2 slot. It seems like a bad idea to have a flimsy ribbon cable for the PCIe connector. I'd also be concerned about crosstalk. It took them 8 years to make the RPI 1 chip? They should have hired experienced ASIC designers or outsourced the design. If you have a chance, try installing Windows 11 on ARM.

Don't overestimated the PCI Port, its only one Lane with a certification for PCI 2.0, but Jeff Gerling got it to PCI 3.0 with max 6 GBit over Ethernet.

run prime95. i promise you, your overclock isn't stable. the fps gain you mention means nothing if you don't give further details such as OS version and resolution

too little too late for rasp pi - low mkt sentiment for pi derived from massive shortage and overpriced units - how hard is it to ramp up cheap arm cores? it is slow compared to other soc/sbc
