When faced with a bump in the road, sometimes we forget we have a choice: overcome the obstacle or let it overcome you. Steven Claunch, who was born without fingers on his right hand and with one leg shorter than the other and has excelled in basketball nonetheless, explains why obstacles can provide an opportunity to both inspire others and develop character.
Lesson by Steven Claunch, animation by Avi Ofer.

Steven's message is important because it shows that resilience got him to accept and to persevere life even with his disability. It shows that obstacles are just there to slow you down, they don't have to be there to stop you. Jump over them. Steven is clearly a person of determination. Also yes, I know I'm late.

I loved the message of this video! People should not get defeated by obstacles, instead they should look how to turn it beneficial for themselves. "Everyone has obstacles to overcome, some visibles, others less visibles" that's so accurate, we cannot compare our problems with others because it is different for everybody.

my obstacles are anxiety, depression, hip dysplasia and the hip replacement I need to get very soon. I'm so scared I won't go through with and cancel last minute it and will be in pain forever. I had to get wisdom teeth taken out and I cancelled it last minute because I just couldn't do it. I need to push forward as much as possible and keep going to therapy to work on getting my stuff taken cared of. One thing at a time and keep rolling with the punches.

Amanda Lawrence don't let fear eat away at you. Just do it. It's OK to be scared, I've had 3 wisdom teeth removed and carpal tunnel surgery. It was sucky to have those problems but it made things better for me in the long run by proving to myself that I can overcome these challenges. I hope you can accept your challenges and conquer them. :)

I feel like once I overcome my anxiety it will be smooth sailings. Thank you btw and I'm really happy you got to do the things you needed to inorder to get better. Pushing myself and over coming my anxiety might be exactly what I need. :)

Facing obstacles is like a journey through rough terrain. Each challenge is a chance to learn, grow, and discover our inner strength. Don't see them as roadblocks; consider them stepping stones to a stronger, more resilient you.
@SarahHope883

The “overcoming obstacles” and “prove them wrong” messages are great, especially for people who are disabled or disadvantaged. But a key point that is missing is the one that says we should, as a society, be challenging systemic ableism and discrimination more widely. Without this key point, the message of this video can potentially reinforce ableism by only ever putting the onus, to achieve good things, on the individual with these challenges. And potentially saying that if they don’t achieve them, it’s their fault entirely. Yes, it’s up to individuals to do their best with the hand they’ve been dealt, but it is also up to everyone to recognise and dismantle some obstacles like ableism and unjust inequality.

Sometimes things seem very complicated to us and we put it aside because we don't achieve something we set out to do. However, Steven Claunch, who was born without fingers on his right hand and with one leg shorter than the other, has stood out. in basketball and every time he had a bad time in practice he did everything possible to improve since his condition did not affect him if it did not push him to achieve his goal. which is why it leaves us with a nice reflection

You can call this man's speech a cliche, old or logic. But it's rare for others to tell people to overcome what they face. And if this message of truth and positiveness isn't handed down and shared to others, well, many will give up on what they love or what they're trying to prevent. If you still think it's a cliche, I have news for you buddy. It's a bloody good cliche at that!

In my opinion, facing and overcoming challenges helps you develop emotional and mental resilience, it helps you learn to handle pressure, maintain a positive mindset and move forward even in difficult times, it will strengthen you to face future obstacles more easily, since problems , obstacles and difficulties form an essential part of our life Obstacles are normal, since life is full of them, and as many say, nothing is easy and everything requires work and effort. We all experience them daily at work, when dealing with other people, or at some point in our lives.

His point is that physical disability is something you can not avoid , but poverty can be avoided and it's society's duty to provide the means to stop poverty, like quality education, healthcare, jobs, etc.. and even some of the richest countries in the world still have a lot to improve in all these areas.

Expecting anyone and everyone to overcome a disability, is in itself, a disability. This is not to take anything away from those who can overcome adversity. That should be recognized and celebrated. However, to expect everyone to overcome every adversity in their lives is to expect everyone to become great. History shows that just as many people are broken down by hardship as are able to overcome it. This fact does not lessen their humanity, just cause they couldn't be great.
