As someone who has had a debilitating chronic illness for 21 years, I live with hope deferred and frustration on a daily basis. The days in which I do not experience these realities as much as others are all the more sweet. The most precious thing, however is that my Creator chose to take on flesh and not keep himself separate from pain and frustration, but rather to take It on full force in a way that I cannot ever imagine and in the process, saving me from every sin that would separate me from an eternal life with him free from the sickness, sorrow and frustration I now experience. Read Isaiah 53 and realize that your great God and Savior Jesus Christ does not only sympathize with whatever you're going through, but empathizes at a level that will take an eternity's worth of delving into. " Surely he has borne our diseases and carried our sorrows."

I don’t remember exactly How he defined hope in this sermon; I think he’s dealing with our own personal hopes and expectations getting deferred especially if not aligned with God’s will for our lives. Sometimes the hopes are deferred for a time of testing of our faith. the Book of Job is a perfect example of trials and testing of faith. I do know that there was a section in this sermon where I stood wondering how this pastor who doesn’t even know me, practically describe how I dealt living with daily chronic back pain, numerous illnesses & allergies/asthma and I just don’t seem to be getting better. So I’m thankful for this sermon, I really needed it. Because I do get frustrated with my day to day plans getting derailed by pain.

Does anybody else feel like he misdefined the word Hope? He seems to think it's simply our desires, and I don't think the Bible says that.
