And if you account that many products are given for free by companies to try to sell products. It makes the influencer’s collection so much more valuable when for even them it would be unattainable to sustain their current lifestyle/content upload schedule without having all they PR supplies first. Early YT was just eyeshadow pallets and now Tik tok has people pull out multiple large coffee shop flavor pumps when I know very well that influencer would not have 30+ bottles without some of them being free. I never looked at it like that before but not I can’t unsee the clear divide of the life I live and the one the influencers promote are able to achieve with sponsorships

Exactly I think using the library is probably the best advice in this video. I remember I was looking everywhere for this book I wanted and kept looking online to see if there were any offers, all that time spent and almost wasted a stupid amount of money on a book I may or may not like, when I just rented it from the library instead. Libraries are also good for when you run out of internet instead of buying an extension I just go to a library when I need to go online (plus gets me out of the house)

We had a Dirt Cheap in my hometown (we're going back soon and I hope it's still there), and an Ollie's here. My mom and I go all the time just to see what they have, the Ollie's here has a pretty big selection of books for like $5 each. They even had the sequels to the book my mom was reading, and the one I have!!

right ! independent bookstores definitely deserve more love and even if you’re purchasing books from somewhere like B&N, at least for me, I keep books for years and years, i still have books from 10+ years ago when i was a child. I love that I own my books, I plan on building a home library so my children and friends can enjoy it too. My son has just started getting into a book series I loved and read many times as a kid. One of which I read at least 7 times. I even had the last chapter memorized when I was younger. He thinks the books are awesome.

Yeah it's fun and normal to have decor for the seasons that you cycle through. What the video is talking about is influencers buying all new decor down to bedsheets EVERY SEASON. My grandma has quite a bit of seasonal decor! She reuses it every year though and only gets new stuff when she needs to replace something or she comes across a piece she absolutely loves and goes with the decor she has.

There's also erasable highlighter! I recently got one, the color goes away with heat (usually friction, but a hair dryer should be a good non-fiction option). They do leave a very light trail but it's not too noticeable if the color you use is the same undertone as the book's paper.

Sometimes you can own the digital media. There’s ways to export a lot of that to your own devices. I have a lot of my kindle books on an external hard drive. Yeah, not all glass is meant to have super hot wax in it. I had a candle explode once. Very scary. Remember! This is another influencer! They will have no consequence when you make a candle that explodes into a zillion pieces. Less consumption is a good thing, but do I want a delicious smelling toxic scrub or a ragity old scratchy brush? Neither are great options. Just my 2 cents.

I put some old wax in a shot glass once while I was at my desk doing homework (used a q tip as a wick). The shot glass exploded out of nowhere, wax went everywhere, and I'm lucky the shards missed my face. it was quite alarming!

I bought physical copies of Star Wars books. Then, after reading, I sold them to another fan. I also enjoy audiobooks. Some may say it's worse than reading for memory. But then again, I combined them during walks and I doubt the dryness of the subject would've kept me awake otherwise 😂

Ugh yes, library is a pain: wait nine months for a book you try to read feeling like something is breathing down your neck for you to give it back. Most of the time I just give it back because it arrived when I wanted to read something else. Or I borrow a book with beautiful illustrations (or is a literal art book) and it's full of pen marks and torn pages. End up having to tell the library to pull it. I'll stick to preordering my must haves and supporting the authors!!

For our kids it often doesn't work. Have to do rushed trips to the library and one day of late fees for ~6 kids books pays for a used/discounted one.

I buy my books whenever possible because I want to support the author, that seems to be a disturbing trend these days, where people will proudly go out of their way to come in possession of someone else's work without paying them directly for said work. If you can't afford new books, games, ect that's one thing, but if you can and you're just trying not to pay the author for their labor then you're the problem. I myself am a writer and I don't think people understand the amount of time and labor that goes into writing even just 40k words. I don't know why it's become a trend not to support authors. And no, that's not saying libraries are bad. Libraries are wonderful, they buy the books directly from the author.

Came here to say this - remember that glass must be heat tempered to be used as a candle vessel. Otherwise, they can explode. Even glass DESIGNED to withstand the heat of a candle can sometimes explode. Another reason why you should never leave one unattended.

The place where I live and some other citys offer "bookcells" an old Telephonebooth upcycled to a small library. You can take and bring whatever you like. The problem is that it's all really old books, kinda like "grandma died and we emptied her attic" and nobody is cleaning these books out. So when u bring new books they don't fit cause it's overflowing with books nobody reads.

I like collecting books and having my own little library in my home. But I go to the dollar store. A lot of expensive, good books actually end up in the dollar store or goodwill sometimes. Especially for children. I’d like them to be familiar with books in the home so they aren’t turning to a device when we can’t go out for the day.

Yeah audiobooks on CD. My laptop can't even load a CD anymore! Books 100% but honestly you're probably just better off on audible.

Also, when more people use the library it can justify getting more funding, and therefore become even better! Mine offers free kids events and streaming service subscriptions now.

Yes, i was ppretty baffled but the ignorance in that suggestion. People can't just go ahead and replace their skincare products willy nilly unless they have the skin of an elephant. some need chemical exfoliatiors with actives like aha and bhas, others can really make use of a gentle body scrub lotion, and only use something like a stone/brush to exfoliate less sensitive skin like that of feet or knees, but never ever bring something like that brush she showed anywhere near your face unless, as i said, you really are one of those with no cares in the world when it comes to your skin (lucky). no dermatologist would aprove of this "advice", it's baffling, but at the same time, the shorts of this channel are just preaching to a choir.

I used to buy those big pillar candles that don't come in a container. I could set those on the floor or table and not worry about them being knocked over or any container heating up and breaking. On occasion I still buy pillar candles in tall thick glass apothecary jars, but once I finish them, I clean out the wax and use the glass jars as containers for notions and decorations.

@@babykrul not all candle holders are made the same and the risk of a candle holder shattering due to tempering is entirely up to chance. Of course, it should be a given to never leave candles unattended, but there is always a risk and the risk goes up when glass is reused for candles. I’ve even had a candle holder (a votive holder) that broke after two uses. For reusing candles like votive refills, I’ve actually switched to metal holders, specifically for me, a cast iron cauldron cuz I like the aesthetic.

If you're buying books and reading them, I don't think you're really the problem, that's not overconsumption. I think this is mostly aimed at book tok type influencers participating in the bookshelf wealth trend. They buy a ton of expensive new hardcovers and arrange them according to your "aesthetic." The books could literally be made of wood for all we know, and the goal isn't actually to read them. I guess she could have specified, but still.

Well, I use all of last year’s decor AND buy additional stuff each year to continue adding to my spread. And I don’t feel guilty for enjoying that particular excess.

for a lot of their scents they're super easy to replicate if you want a reusable alternative!! :)

You could refill the jars with a diy sugar scrub and customize it to whatever color or scent you like ❤

Omg yes yes yes! I was looking for that comment! I was on a course about making candles an I promise it's no that easy. You need a scale, soy wax (or beeswax), special containers, so many essential oils, special knots, thermometer for food or smt like that. You need a lot of stuff, a ton of space it takes, and just a lot of work and failed attempts to get the candle turn out good
