1000 Days for the Planet is the latest project from world-renowned scientist and UN Ambassador for the Environment, Jean Lemire. Lemire explores the world from his 50-foot sailboat, the Sedna IV, stopping everywhere from Alaska to the Philippines.
Along the way, the series reveals the extraordinary beauty of the planet whilst helping us understand how our living environments function, and ultimately ponder the great challenges we all face.
Exploring life from ocean depths to mountain peaks, and from vast savannahs to the heart of the jungle, this series is beautiful and challenging. 1000 Days for the Planet is a journey around our vast planet to discover life’s extraordinary diversity and to bear witness to its fragile balance.

Over fishing is a issue still. Having huge commercial fishing boats catching 100 of tons a day is incredible. How much longer can the ocean sustain this gross display of human destruction.

I think corners are cut more often when one's of the opinion that they are on 'the right side of history'. Reminded me of a polar bear floating on the block of ice i once saw in a documentary. When asked why it was "staged" without disclosure, the comment went along the lines of 'the ends justifying the means'. I think that's a sociopaths perspective if there ever was one.

The Alaskan fisheries banned crab fishing this year in the Bering Sea. The Russian's didn't and had a hey day. What sense does that make.

Because the waters around Alaska were void of crab. The biomass of crab moved into Russian waters. They do catch surveys todo stock or population evaluations to set quotas. There were few if any crab at all in tradition Alaskan water locations. They still don't know why.

As a recreational fisherman that cleans up after himself, I respectfully ask the United Nations to focus their demonstrable powers on the rouge state fishing fleet moguls. Fact is, if the UN's muscle doesn't reach that far, it means the UN's just preaching at the converted. Oh, and creating high quality, heart string pulling podcasts.

Fact even the Vegies you eat die which also equates to murder, Plants being harvested emit high pitched squeals undetectable to the human ear so they obviously feel pain too but because you can't see or hear it you are a hypocrite and deem that permissible. It's high time the governments around the world agree to fund fish farms to release fish and help to re stock the seas. Over fishing by too many countries over 10k of fishing vessels around the world in rivers and seas could end the fertile seas forever. START restocking the seas for god's sake like we do rivers and lakes It's all countries responsible to do this

@@chrisleigh777 I believe it is not enough, the fish take more than 2 years to reach a satisfactory size. I believe the increase in gray seals is proof, the fact that fishermen reduced the amount caught left food for the seals, the availability of fish is what controls the number of seals. in recent years we have observed an increase in sargassum algae, I believe that the amount has increased because the fish that ate the algae no longer exists.
