Hi Terry I use Shimano TX7 intensity 12ft rods, coupled to CI4+ 14000 big pit reel bait runners, and I find I can quite easily cast to 150-160 metres without too much bother with that set-up. I do use a 12ft shock leader and a 3.5oz in-line lead and Daiwa hyper-Sensor .35 (18lb) line which works a treat as well. Great video by the way😁😁

I live in New England now and it’s been 30 years since I’ve cast over grass. I would cast and tighten up. I would measure how much line come in for a turn of the handle before the cast, one turn’s worth after the cast, average, and count the turns of the handle to the lead. I would clean, straighten, and maybe replace line after every fishing trip.

How important is that 13ft vs 12ft for the average angler that wants rods to fish all lake sizes?
@shainemoodley4 жыл бұрын
Hi Terry, thank you for the great video. I noticed that you seem to rock the lead back and forth prior to the "hit". Do you begin the cast when it is furthest or closest to you? Would you recommend this cast for beach casting?

Hi Terry, well done. Do you think that there is an optimum ratio of inner diameter of start ring VS diameter of spool? I've been triying long distance for a couple of years with 50mm ring and 5500 ultegras and I've always had the feeling that I could have reached more distance with a wider spool. Because with a wider spool the line digs less quickly and peals longer with ease over the lip and simply because 50er starter are made to concentrate a line conus from a wider spool. Line conus coming from a 5500 seems already smaler than the 50mm diameter. Your opinion about all that please. BR david

Yeah just a quick one... I own these rods in 13ft version and bought them so I could cast distance they brilliant rods but I’d just like to know because I’m not the tallest guy 5ft 4 with shorter arm length and wondering if these rods are helping me cast further or are they stopping me because they bigger and I’m shorter than the average man? Would I be better off with 12ft or 12-6ft or doesn’t this make a difference thanks Allen
@TerryEdmondsUk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen 13ft rods help nearly everybody. Height doesn't matter mate
@shainemoodley4 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen. I am vertically challenged and have spaghetti arms. What I found when casting is that when my hands are positioned closer together I get more tip speed and less torque; when they are further apart I get less tip speed and more torque; this is good for heavier loads. I get 150m average throwing 4oz attached to 25-pound mono leader, 0.35mm mono on a13ft ageing Okuma Rod and 5500 size Daiwa Emblem. My technique is modelled on the one Terry demonstrates.

@@TerryEdmondsUk Hi! I have found that using mono can actually cast further than braid when they are of exactly the same diameter. I mainly fish rock and surf and use these for different applications but have field-tested both,out of curiosity.

Hi Terry I've got the NG 12ft 3.5tc with 40mm butt ring reels our dawia qd scw od 45 on them is fox tapperd 300mtrs at 35lb to 12lb I'm getting 40 wraps with this set up with a 4oz lead like to do 50 wraps any change to rods I can do like Chang the 40mm to a 50mm thanks Terry
@TerryEdmondsUk3 жыл бұрын
First of all we'll done on 40 wraps that is a big cast. 50 wraps with tapered line is a really big cast and to be honest will take work not many achieve that with 10lb mono and braided leader. That is easier to cast. The ng isnt particularly a fast blank so the first thing I would look to is a 13ft faster stiffer rod with 50mm guides. Then will be technique on this case ✌️

I heard Terry beat the world record with a 5500 reel. In this demo, the 5500 cast just as far as the 14000 with the same 10lb line, only 3 metres difference. Of course a 3.75 TC rod and 10lb line that is suitable tournament casting in fields, may be of little use for actual carp fishing.
