To overland Morocco means many things including experiencing a different culture. Sometimes you've got to stop for a while, to really get the place.
We made camp in Tafroute and set out to explore the epic landscape, and visited the love-them-or-hate-them Painted Rocks. Created in 1984 by the Belgium artist Jean Verame. Do you love them or hate them? Are they art or graffiti?

Your videos are making me homesick! They bring back so many childhood memories. I'm seriously thinking about retiring and just moving back. If you're still in the area, I would recommend visiting sister villages Anil and Anamer.

Thank you and I'm pleased you've had a taste of home. We've explored the whole area by scooter and recently in a friends car , the road from Thmani to Anamer is something else, what a crazy drive with switch back after switch back, I was pleased not to be in the truck, I think we may have got stuck but truly spectacular 🙏😀

A tip for the oven chicken, the outside will always cook and burn before the inside, always cover it on foil for it the be cooked as whole inside and outside then at the end remove the foil for golden crispy colour

Thanks for answering the question about whether 4x4 or even off road tyres are needed. Judging by the motorhomes you showed us I am confident our van would cope. Also, loved looking round the market and shops. You have treated us to all sorts of insights on this trip. BTW, what time is red wine time?😊 After midday in my book.

Hi Seb, thank you, appreciate you saying. The Cadac's a Carrichef 2, we've had it six years although this models no longer made. We've got various grill/griddle plates, pans and a pizza stone and it's easily big enough for two, we rate it highly and wouldn’t want to be without it.

It is the work of a Belgian artist Jean Vérame, its hés 'art' sinds 1984.

Hi Bob, thank you & good question, one I should have covered. Simple answer is no, it's all bottled so if you've got a refillable system such as Gaslow you won’t be able to top upi n Morocco.

In Marrakesh or Fez maybe (you Have to barter hard, like 70% less) but in rural Morocco it's pretty easy... fingers, sign language & pointing gets you through and the vast majority of people are very pleasant and won't rip you off 😀

Hi Peter, great spot 😀. We had a little problem with the indicator swith so I left it with a little roadside bike shop, it turned out to be a metal on metal connection issue due to little use and corrosion. The guy charge me £4 but really wasn’t happy with the camera so I ended up leaving the whole bit out. It's a shame really as it just illustrates the can do attitude and low cost fixes that happen in everyday Morocco. 🙏😀

Are the rocks naturally that colour or painted?

Hi Mark, no they were painted by a Belguim artist (Jean Verame) in 1984, but. originally in pastel colours and not as many as there are today. I put a little bit in the description explaining this as I realised I hadn’t said in the video, thanks for asking. 🙏😀

Thanks for sharing this journey. You are helping to change my image of Morocco. I had the image of people just trying to scam tourists or over charging for every thing. Thanks to your travels and a few others I now see a country full of wonders, great food, and honestly kind and helpful people. There may be individuals that try to scam or extort money from tourists, but that happens everywhere. One just needs to be aware, and remember the old adage if it sounds to good to be true.....🏜🐪🌴🫒🥖☕🍷🍽

Thank you and our pleasure, your adage is so true and yes you'll get offered various wares from many but a firm No usually gets the message accross. The only caveat is the cities and some coastal (tourist) areas, but even there it's got better over very recent years with tourism ploice, and the clean up of certain souks/markets. Lots of people have said to us, we went to Marrakesh and didn’t really like it, we got pestered. But of course Marrakesh isn't a true representation of Morocco and I think that's one of the lovely things about being in your home on wheels, you really get to see the true country.
