The headwaters of the bighorn River lie within or near the Washakie Wilderness. At that point the Bighorn River is named the Wind River. Early explorers confused the river coming out of the Wind River Canyon with a different river than the one going into the Wind River Canyon.

Not exactly. The wedding of the waters starts just north of Wind River Canyon. Close to Thermopolis. The Wind River starts in Teton Bridger Forrest by Jackson Wyoming. There's an interesting reason why it changed names once out of the Wind River Canyon. You can look it up. Not going to write it all out here.

Beautiful video. I live in Buffalo. You did a good job with the areas. The reason we didn't have a lot of people up there was because of the rains and Yellowstone flooding. Unfortunately the Big Horns are getting a lot of people now. Especially ATVS. Over the years, many roads have been closed up in the mountains. I'm glad you didn't run into very many people and had a great time on your trip.

The wind and weather here generally sucks, there is not much for employment, worst food options as far as restaurants in the USA unless you want fast food …. Just facts.

All I know is the last time I was in the bighorns it was so crowded and noisy with so many ATVs and side by sides that it wasn't even fun to be up there we stayed at the Goose Creek Campground on the other side of the road from dead Swede Campground and all day long it was nothing but side by sides and ATVs going in and out😢

Thanks for recording your trip! May I ask which mapping program you use? TIA

Mapping depends on the nature of the journey. This trip we used GAIA and Google Maps. With both you can download areas and use offline if your smart phone or tablet has GPS. Other trip’s we’ll also use Trails Off Road and/or OnX. They all have their separate advantages. To us the most important thing when you’re really out there is trail descriptions and routes. We just took a trip on BLM land in western Arizona and it took both GAIA and OnX to keep us from getting into some areas that were beyond the capabilities of our Tacoma. Hope this helps.

@@amblinoverlanders9420 Thanks! Sure does help. I’m playing with GaiaGPS right now, trying it out. I’ve been having problems syncing, but I think I’ve got that resolved. I’ll try the other ones you mentioned too. I’ve also used Google earth. Using that, I’ve found some amazing campsites that give you an idea of the views. Check out Outlaw Cave in Wyoming. Thanks again for a great video. I’m hoping I can find some of the places you’ve been to. 👍
