I think it depends on your facial proportions. So if you have a longer philtrum and longer chin with thin lips, there will be more space for you to make your lips fuller. If you have shorter philtrum and shorter chin, then your lips can take up too much space if you overline them and it'll look awkward.

People always say this about foundation but never overlining the lips: you can’t get rid of texture with makeup. Your Cupid’s Bow and filtrum are three dimensional and no amount of makeup will get rid of them short of prosthetics. It looks good on camera from the front, but in real life everyone can tell they are over lined. If you don’t care, then do you. But if you’re hoping they will look bigger without anyone noticing, that’s not going to happen. It’s especially obvious with lip gloss since the gloss reflects more light off the Cupid’s Bow.

I remember I saw a lady with her lips overlined a few years ago when it really started trending, and I feel bad because I stared at her lips the entire time she talked, probably looking confused. To each their own, and sometimes it's not too noticeable, but it's not something I consider my cup of tea as you can tell when talking to someone.

Someone doing my makeup once overlined my lips and I was just like ????????? My lips are full, they look like what cartoon artists used to draw to give women sultry lips. Literally one of three things that self-loathing didn’t manage to make me hate about myself (the other two being my eyes and the hook of my nose bridge). I don’t even need to use lip liner because my lips are very well defined. And then they overlined my lips, took away my Cupid’s bow, and were like “THIS IS BETTER” and istg I looked like a damn clown lol

I think part of the trick is that you need a matte lipstick. The shininess shows the dimension on your lips giving away how much you've overlined. Matte is Flat. I know there's other problems like how the colours of the lipstick and liner literally don't match but I think she was probably memeing us with that

You really went overboard with this lol, yeah no. It looks too big and really weird esp at the cupid bow. The normal overline lips you usually do actually look okay though. It's your face after all, you can do whatever make up you want
