Joe, love these reviews. One tip: play timeshift like FEAR, by tapping slow time on/off quickly just enough to get a kill. Then sprint to a better position. Rather than let the "time bar" drain, use as little of it as possible during each activation, BUT use it very frequently - ideally on every enemy. It's a game-changer.

You nailed the strengths & weaknesses of this unique guilty pleasure quite well, a nicely balanced & fair review! It sadly reminds me of other games with troubled development issues like "Duke Nukem Forever" & "Singularity" by Raven, both fun games but it makes you wonder how fantastic they would all be if they all had more time to develop the story, pacing & unique game-play dynamics.

@@joethealternativegamer3935 for the time it was good enough. We didn't have free to play games or the sort to compensate the lack of money so it was nice. The 2011 piracy attack was probably the worst year for Playstation and it did ruin the initial vision they had for the console.

Man this game. I wanted to play it so bad back in the day but my PC wasn't up to the task. Then a few years later when I had an upgraded system I couldn't remember the name of the game and eventually forgot all about it. Just saw it's on Steam so I'm definitely gonna grab that at some point now that you reminded me of it. And just like you I'd have loved to experience the original version. It sounds so much more interesting than what we eventually got. Thanks for reminding me of this hidden gem.

Playing Mechwarrior 5 with dlcs right now and damn... I like it so much. "You can actually feel as mech pilot" (ign probably 😁). And enjoying Freeman guerilla warfare as it is, the game is mount and blade knockoff, but the shooting is surprisingly good, and I love to build my small army to raid bandit camps 😎

@@joethealternativegamer3935 oh... Tough question... But I would say it kind of different, bc it has more micromanagement and planning (choosing preferable "families" to work with, finding new pilots, buying mechs, rebuilding em, paying for transportation etc, but it's fun, I like playing as a mercenary, building my own company and team) and with 2 of the story dlcs, the game kind of offers an endless game expirience, and if you like gameplay (well, I do) then it's a solid buy on any sale. It also has vr and mod support. I like the feeling of piloting mechs, the all feel different

@@joethealternativegamer3935 I don't remember tbh when it came out, but it has unique gameplay mechanics, like being able to stop bullets, it had great physics and shooting, but the plot was piss-poor, try it, I loved the action, there is even a second UberSoldier game on steam, but it lost its charm a bit, and it was made even on tighter budget and it feels... I need to find a Xbox 360 copy and play through it. Looks more fun than pretty much every AAA FPS in 2021. I think it's backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X too. Singularity was probably the better time traveling FPS game, despite the development hell that one went through. RIP Ravensoft, never allowed to make excellent games again. You might wanna check out Bright Memory Infinite. Pretty good for an indie team. I like that Microsoft added the entire FEAR franchise to backwards compatibility too.

@Joe, The Alternative Gamer, I think both FEAR 1 & FEAR Files require discs to play. But still better than the versions available on Steam that have received no official support from WB Games to work well on modern pcs. Shame the franchise died with FEAR 3. Ah well, now we can replay the best games basically remastered and there's always Trepang2...

So you don't know the story man you were not focusing on it. So basically you are an unnamed scientist Dr Aidan Krone and his assistants are working on time shifting suits the alpha suit and the beta suit. He takes the Alpha suit in an unclear amount of time although it is around 1926 A.D when you get past the first level so it was a while ago. You join the Occupant uprising the first insurgent you meet is supposedly Mason's right hand man I believe his name is Laszlo (it starts with an L.) And you meet up with Commander Hansen in an unnamed insurgent unfortunately all three of them die you meet up with other named insurgents (Mills and Commander Mason Cooke (the leader of the uprising.)) After Commander Mason Cooke dies you go back in time and you start the official game on level 2. The first insurgence you meet are the named ones Commander Hanson and Mills (it's unclear how they survived but do the hell overconfident most of Krones men are I wouldn't say it's hard.) After saving them you go on to the street until you get to the Admin building you are escorted by a group of elites (they are unnamed but there's four of them) once you're inside the Admin building you make your way to the rooftop to get escorted out of the city. Once you're out of the city you meet Commander Mason Cooke face to face for the second time and soon enough you're off saving Delta Battalion you were sent down with Nichols and I believe his name is Rose? Due to the fact that they are disposable they'll easily die but they're not scripted to die (little fun fact :) ) and probably the most annoying chapter of the game "the Forgotten." It's only three levels long thank God but once you're done with them you rescue Delta Battalion which play no more important role the rest of the game. (There briefly mentioned at the end) next Commander Mason Cooke. Sends you to the munitions factory (it apparently mass produced everything in Krones army because once you destroy it you apparently grabbed him by the balls.) which is being guarded by a fort you head there and meet up with Lazlo and eight other unnamed insurgents. (I originally thought they were Delta Battalion but I changed my mind realizing they can't even walk straight there is no way they could invade the fort.) Only three insurgents lazlo and two unnamed insurgents Will survive and is going to hold them off (Lazlo was seen later on in the game so he lives.) Once you go through and the destroy the munitions factory you 'borrow' a Zeppelin (very powerful blimp don't know how he lost the last one.) So commander Mason Cooke, Mills, Daniel, and two unnamed insurgents infiltrate the storage facility holding the Zeppelin. Unfortunately the unnamed insurgent and Daniel die (R.I.P Rest In Pieces for Daniels.) you get your hands on the Zeppelin but it needs fuel so you infiltrate a Hill facility. Once you get the fuel you are sent back to Alpha district (the main area) you face The sentinel destroy it and kill Aiden Krone. You go through a Time paradox for potential sequel bait (that will probably never happen without a reboot) and there's all the story I know.
