Attention to detail matters. Money flowing out the window. Imagine lighting 100 dollar bills on fire. That's what you're doing currently without insulation, sealing all the cracks, and making sure it's weather proof. I.e. so mice don't get in like the survival shelter. I mean you spend that much time, effort, materials and money on something.... Don't let animals take over. After all you created it to take animals down and have a getaway and or a suit for guests to stay in warm months of the year.

The size of the stove is probably fine. Not having a damper on the stove doesn't help the situation since you're wasting a lot of heat that way. Finishing the ceiling so it's insulated will make a difference too. With the ceiling not being insulated, the cabin is just bleeding off the heat faster than the stove & heater can generate it. You should get a heat powered stove fan to put on top of the stove. It powers itself & provides circulation that will push heat from the stove into the rest of the cabin. It will really help make that place feel more comfortable in the cold even after you insulate the place.

Insulate the ceiling good and stack that stove full of hard wood and you’ll be good. If you don’t have a damper flap in ur smoke pipe it’s dumping most of ur heat out the stack. If you slow down the smoke it’ll hold more heat in also. The beeping is you need a bigger battery bank to support the load. It’s pulling the battery down and cause it to beep As a warning. After it gets below 11volts it’ll shut off.

11 volts and your battery life was just cut down to 1 year or less! Battery voltage chart www.motorhometour.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/battery-charging.jpg I run part of my house off battery and solar, 2 freezers, pellet stove for heat, computer, ham radio gear are all running off battery right now! If it was a 12 volt system(I use 24 volts and a converter to 12 for the ham radio stuff) I am at 13.25 volts, sun went down an hour ago. By morning it will be at 12(24 volts in my setup) and that is as low as you want to go! Doing that I get 6-7 years from a set of batteries and good AGM deep cycle batteries are NOT cheap! Flair has probably killed that battery he is using... those cheap inverters low voltage alarm is like 11.5 volts... Flair really needs a solar pro to come in and design a system. Some panels flat on the wall of the cabin for winter sun, some tilted at about 40 degrees for summer use... or put them n a tracker system... he needs to look at the amp draw of each item he wants on, add them all up and multiply by 120 to get how many watts he uses per hour. I have 400 amp hours at 24 volts for a battery, since only 50% is usable that gives me 4800 watt hours of usable energy. Freezers run once every 2 hours for 15 minutes so they run 3 hours a day and use 1500 watts of energy for 4500 watt hours total. This time of year the panels supply that for 5 hours a day after bats are charged so I can cut that by approx 1/4 so 3300 watt hours of energy just for them. Pellet stove sips energy, 288 watt hours a day, radios use about 600... this time of year the inverter for the freezers may shut down(they drop back on grid if that happens) because batteries are at 70% charge. A pro will help him do all this math since I know it is not his strong suit LOL

Flair with your wood burning stove you need to get it to “draw”. There should be an air vent at the bottom somewhere that you open then close the door or just barely leave it open. The fire will suck air in and burn really fast. Then you close the door all the way if it’s open at all and close the vent on the bottom a little bit but but all the way you just want it to slowly burn after that.

You need to get like 3 deep cycle batteries, and wire them “parallel” ( opposite of how you would a 36v trolling motor) to keep it 12 volts, but will give you considerably longer power..
@jordenbishop307
@jordenbishop307 3 жыл бұрын
Flair you would need a dampener for your woodstove as well as a heat triggered fan you place on top of the stove. It will help throw the heat from the stove through the cabin as well and I would suggest adding 3-4 deep cycle batteries ran in parallel and upgrading to a 2500w inverter. And side note switch the battery to solar panels before going to bed.

Hey Andrew and Austin, I’ve used wood stoves a lot. That stove is big enough for your cabin. But where your ceiling is not insulated it won’t stay warm once the fire dies down, but will be more than enough if you keep it burning. And you want 36” between your stove and your wooden walls. Unless you have a fire shield which will reduce the amount of space by a lot. Awesome cabin!

Flair, you really need to close the soffit on the cabin, you're losing a lot of heat there. Also, wood-burning stoves need more than two logs at a time you gotta load them up. Also, your stove should have a draft vent on the front somewhere, that's where you control how fast the stove burns. You always keep the door closed too and most people run some sort of fan to blow the hot air around the room. All of this combined should keep your cabin plenty warm to the point where you could be in shorts and a tee-shirt and still be hot.

Insulation on the walls and ceiling will help a lot especially in summer that will be the total opposite. We have a cabin with no insulation and in the summertime, it's a heat box. Start with the insulation before changing out the stove. I am certain you will notice a huge difference.

Here I canada people use wood stoves to heat their cabins in Temps as low as -40°c. Insulate your roof!. Heat rises. So it'll escape through the roof the quickest. Very important to insulate that roof! Also a damper on the piping. If you don't already have one.
@TysandNanasPlace

I think you should install insulation and finish the roof with wood like 1*6" to keep the cabin feel and look of the cabin. That's pretty cold but that wood stove should have been enough to warm the cabin. I just think it's the lack of insulation. lack of dampener in the stove? Also check out cubic mini. They have a nice fan that runs off heat not electricity. It may help.

Nice little cabin. Your next purchases if you haven't already, MUST be a fire extinguisher and a smoke alarm. You can put a small fan un low behind the stove to distribute the heat. And you can crack windows on either side of the building to create a draw and suck the smoke out when you smoke it all up cooking. You have to insulate the celling. Make sure and put the little plastic liners between the wood and insulation or you will get water dripping from condensation especially when it snows - Metal roof thing. Your wood stove is plenty big enough once you het it insulated properly and even some tongue and groove ceiling will help cozy it all up. It looks great. Enjoy!

Add a stack robber and a damper to your stove pipe, insulate your walls, roof, and around your windows, and finish the trim on the windows. Also try one of the thermal-powered stove fans. It looks like you’re losing heat through the roof and around your windows. That stove should have it so hot, you’ll have to open your windows to regulate the temperature.

you should get a "Stove thermometer/burn indicator" for you wood stove. This will let you know how to adjust the fire to get the most efficient burn. Never burn your woodstove with the door open!!!! Once the fire is started close the door and adjust the air inlet until the burn indicator is the the burn zone. Too cold will make creosote and can burn your cabin down and too hot can burn your cabin down.

You’ve gotta get some oak wood to keep that stove going all night. Use pine to get it started. Also, get a damper for the stove, it’ll control the air flow and heat it burns at. Lastly, hang a thermometer in there. The stove should be big enough to get that place warm. The cabin is awesome my guy, keep making videos!

When the door is open in your wood stove the heat can easily escape up the stove pipe, it’s counterintuitive but the door being open allows air to come in behind it fast and the warm air escapes. Get a stove fan and it will help a lot, they make their own electricity from the stove heat and spin a fan that yeets the heat across the room. Keep your stove door closed and use the dampers properly.

Hi there you need to insulate the roof, remember heat rises you need to do this otherwise it will remain cold. You also need thicker logs for the fire place and enough to get you through the night.Also buy some long snake runners they have wheat in them that block out the heat escaping and getting in under the door.You also need insulated lining curtains put up on all the windows.You can buy the curtains already made all you need are rods and hooks to hang the rod up.There must be a lever somewhere to close the pipe to stop the heating burning through tons of wood. By following my suggestions will make a huge difference.

Insulate that puppy get a small fan to put behind the stove, and get some bigger pieces of hard wood to put on once you get the fire going and you will stay nice and toasty all night.

The stove is to small, but you could get a wood stove blower to help get the heat moving. Insulation in the roof is a must. As far as the battery beeping it’s not near enough battery to do what you want to do. You need to get about 4 golf cart batteries and wire them in a 12 volt circuit. The deep cycle golf cart batteries have a higher amount of amp hours which is their amount of power storage pretty much. The golf cart batteries have the most punch when it comes to amp hours.

Need to definitely seal around the windows and gaps in the roof really well because you’re loosing a lot of heat and letting air in badly in those areas, cans of great stuff expanding foam around the inside gaps around the window and the frames you built to set them in will go a long way . Id then add insulation to the roof and I’d add more insulation to the walls and panel/Sheetrock them. These things would make a huge difference because theres only sooo much that thin sheet insulation can do plus it’s just sandwiched btw the wall material that isn’t all that thick as well. On the stove it should be plenty enough it’s just the fact of you losing sooo much heat out of all of the gaps/crevices and other poorly sealed areas of the cabin. To get the warm air moving through the cabin you need to get a/some “thermal fans”, they sit ontop of your stove and use the heat from the stove to spin and kind of disperse the heat through the room/cabin better and without needing or using any additional electric

I am not going to lie I had a little giggle when you were looking at your kindling to light your fire! I live in New Zealand and we heat our home throughout the winter with a wood fire. Firstly your firewood, you are going to need a fair bit more than that if it is cold which it looks like it is lol, and you use your kindling to get your fire started because it catches easier than a chunk of wood. Once you have a good flaming fire and some red embers you can add your wood. BUT, if you have that gel it is a massive cheat and will help you out big time to get a good fire started even if you don't know how without so I'd keep using that while you practise building your fires. Another thing, insulation! Insulate and line your walls and ceiling, under the floor if you can too cause your heat is going to escape and piss off through the night while you sleep. Put thermal lined curtains up too cause the heat will piss off through the glass. So yeah, BIG stack of dry cut firewood so you can fill the hot box for over night, insulation and practise building and lighting your fire and you will rock it. Oh and when cleaning out your fire box, only toss your grey ash, not your black charred coal. The charred coal will relight and help build fast embers. I use the shovel to knock the black coals to one side, scoop out grey ash, and then roll the coals to the clean side and scoop grey ash out. Then spread coal back out, build new fire on top.
