We travel from Hamburg to Vienna aboard the Nightjet, Austrian Railways (ÖBB) comfortable sleeper trains, and get to try out the new design for their comfort couchettes. We love nothing more than an overnight sleeper train and while expensive, we were thrilled with the new train cabins and service on this ÖBB train from Hamburg, Germany to Vienna, Austria.

So awesome! We planned on taking the night jet from Italy to Munich last year but we extended our stay in one place and it pushed us into July. And just so happened they weren’t running any night jet routes on that line for the entire month of July! Probably gonna have to try it again though.

Wien Meidling is the station immediately before the Hauptbahnhof (transit time about 5 minutes). All long distrance trains stop there and during the construction of the Hauptbahnhof Wien Meidling served as the temporary main station for Vienna.

There is one higher class more than yours for sleeping, it is with a bassin to wash the hands in the cabin for two people (perhaps three, I am not sure?). You can also book it for one, two or, I think, three persons. It is clear, that the price is more expensive for one person than for more. And one much more higher class with a shower and a toilet inside for up to three people. The shower is with towels, soap, etc. everything you need. You can book it also for one or two persons if you want. In this luxury class you can chose the breakfast from a menu card (6 items are included, if you take more you pay for it) and the beds are done for you by the conductor. And you get a bag, a kind of amenity bag, with towel, slippers, sweets, water, a pen, sleeping mask, ear plugs. We plan to go by this train/cabin to Rome in March 2024. That are older waggons, not so modern as you had it. Greetings from Vienna Austria Ulli

And it will be exactly on that route - Vienna to Hamburg / Innsbruck to Hamburg (vice versa) Please test it out (especially the Schlafwagen / Schlafwagen Comfort (with a nice shower) or the Mini Cabin after it comes out! :) Its out on the 10. of December 2023 so in a few days! :))

Good Video but a few additions 😊 Your train had much older cars. Your car was built around 1990 and had a refurbishment a few years ago. The former DB sleeping cars were built between 2003 and 2005. The oldest couchette cars were built in 1980. The former German couchette cars are even older, but there aren't many of them left. Well, being around 20 years old is not enoug 😊 It is precisely these cars from the 80s and older that will be replaced first by the new trains.

I made a calculation for our journey to Rome in March 2024. Flight: Day flight by Austrian Airlines cheapest 220,- (All in Euros and both directions), 69 x 4 = 276 (1 suitcase is 69), Taxi x 2 to the airport and home in Vienna = 100, Leonardo Express/train airport to hotel and back 17 x 4 = 68 (taxi in Rome would be about 100 or more)..... all together 664 Euros (696 with taxi)......that is nearly 700 Euros by airplane. You can not say flying is cheaper.... there are so many costs more, not only the tickets for the plane. Train/nightjet: We had good luck, because we bought our tickets in November 2023 for March 2024 nightjet luxury cabin to Rome with shower and toilet inside the cabin for two persons for 720 Euros. In advance it is cheaper, now it is more expensive. When you go by airplane.... travelling time about 7 hours. By train 12,5 to 15 hours. That is an argument FOR the airplane. BUT: I enter the train 15 minutes from my home, I have a comfy cabin for only two of us (nobody is sitting 2 centimeters on my side). I am reading, playing, watching films on my computer. Sleeping in my bed made by the conductor, taking a shower, waiting for my breakfast, that the conductor brings in the morning to my bed (I can chose what I want from the menu). When I leave the train I have 10 minutes to my hotel. No stress, no dragging of suitcases, no running, no walking, only comfy waiting till I am in Rome. Airplane: leaving home three hours before my flight, go by taxi to the airport, waiting there two hours (with my train first class ticket for the luxury cabin I can go to the lounge at the trainstation in Vienna. For the Airport first class lounge I must pay extra), then walking to the plane, sitting with a lot of people (not comfy at all, and we have still the corona problem), in Rome/airport waiting for the suitcases, again walking and dragging the suitcases (Rome's taxi drivers are famous for cheating), and looking for a taxi or searching the Leonardo train for going to Roma termini. So I prefer the quality of the journey. My journey starts, when I leave my home. And by train, it has more quality. And as I calculated above, when you buy tickets for the train early .... flying is not cheaper at all. Greetings from Vienna Austria Ulli

I kinda agree with the other guy about the coffee thing. These workers who work on these trains aren't rich and it's unfair to expect them to clean up the coffee spill that your kid caused. Even if you cleaned it the smell and the stains will remain. And if you're not paying for the damages you cause, it's the other passengers who will suffer. If you were holding the breakfast tray with two hands, it wouldn't have happened but you guys were careless about it. One of the main difference between public transport in America and Europe is that people here care take care of the public services they receive.
@StephandPete
@StephandPete 7 ай бұрын
This is so absurd. Those sheets get bleached every ride and it was an honest mistake, moreover, that guy kissed our son on the head upon our leaving and regularly hung out near our cabin- it’s clear he wasn’t even remotely perturbed, but sure, your expertise on the situation based on a 2 second clip is accurate.
@kraudavid5975
@kraudavid5975 7 ай бұрын
@@StephandPete Yeah I'm sure you work for the train company to know that it gets bleached lol. Also the smell mattress will remain. This is why people in the states can't have good things. And when they come to Europe, they often lack respect for the facilities for the local public too. And you're not even one bit sorry. Not good!
@maxthurner
@maxthurner 6 ай бұрын
Why do you have to give them such a hard time? It wasn't intentional! I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. And the worker was super chill and wasn't annoyed at all and I'm also sure that the entire mattress was washed, which happens very often. This basic cleaning is very, very often done on trains in Austria.

I travelled quite a bit in Europe and I always made sure that I take care of public premises and not be a bad representative of my country. You dropped the coffee, it's completely fine. Accidents happens. But the fact that you're saying that it's not a big deal is really annoying. Learn from train KZfaqrs like simply railways who always take such good care of the railways property. Also, it highlights the racism in Europe too. If a person from a so called "poor" country did that, these OBB Austrians would fine the hell out of them. But when you guys do it, it's all good. But honestly, this is a typical American tourist behaviour I've seen in Europe. Surprisingly, in their own country they are very nice with tourists but the American tourists that come to EU are super entitled.
@StephandPete
@StephandPete 6 ай бұрын
I know it’s not a big deal because I was there, I’m the one who took the time to know all three of our train attendants by name before the- in your own words- accident; I am not the one judging from a computer screen a 3 second clip and generalizing entire swaths of people. Thanks for watching!

@@StephandPete You're hiding behind your kid for the mistake you made? It's clear in the video that you dropped it! You shouldn't be holding your tray with one hand just so you can get a nice angle for your KZfaq video. Also, the staff will have to prepare the train for other passengers. It's one thing if Americans do not understand the sophisticated culture of Europe, but not taking responsibility and being sarcastic is just outright shameful.
