9 Bizarre North Korea Facts → www.travelcontinuously.com/fa...
This is the beginning of my journey to North Korea. I travelled by train from Beijing to Dandong, the biggest border city to DPRK, and then on to Pyongyang.
I was on a guided tour to North Korea with a company called Young Pioneer Tours. You can book here - bit.ly/2IX3imw
(use code JordDPRK for a free T-Shirt).
This video series is NOT a political commentary. It is only meant to document what it’s like to travel to North Korea (DPRK) in 2019.
I can only show you what I am shown myself.

They exchange all sleeper train tickets in China so the conductor can keep track of who's getting off at which station. If the train gets to a station in the middle of the night, the conductor will know to wake you up so you don't miss your stop.

The card that the train crew gave you after taking your ticket is for waking you up when you arrive at your destination preventing you from passing your station for she collected everyone's ticket so she knew every passengers' destination.

Very cool to see this in my recommends! I visited Dandong a few years ago. It's a weird city to say the least... I had the same issue with the ATMs and went all over town trying to find an ATM that would accept my Visa. I liked the city overall but standing on the waterfront was pretty eerie. The disparity between China and North Korea is striking.

Wow DangDong is actually kind of filled with people now. I was there several years back and it was literally ghost town. No people only except at the city center. Otherwise it was literally ghost town. At night you wouldn't see any light up buildings but only empty large buildings, its very creepy when walking at night in residential districts.

What are you talking about? Dandong is a city with 2.2 million people living in here. Its downtown has 0.7 million people living here. I am originally from this city. This city has nothing special comapred with other small scale China citiies. Also its location is pretty closed to the northesat central city shenyang, which is only 200 km away, can you stop making up the story?

The ticket exchange process only happens on slower, older trains. Entering these trains do not require electronic scanners, so the ticket exchange is used to manually count who was present. If someone is not present, then the railway system can resell the ticket for people to use the unclaimed spot from the next station.
