@@TheH1st0ry but PvP is part of it, and Hearthstone has regularly seemed to prioritize PvP content over PvE. I wouldn't be surprised if the PvP becomes the main thing they focus on in this mode even so.

The point of these videos is to get a sense of the gameplay, so I am responding to that sense I am getting from it as well as my experience with the game and the design choices made throughout its history. You can try to gatekeep who gets to express which opinions people have about the mode, but I see no reason why it should matter at all whether or not I think this mode will have interesting PvP at all or not. My point still stands. The characters seen so far clearly fit into 2-3 setups that are somewhat linear in design (put dragons in the dragon comp, fire skills in the fire one, etc.), so there will be an extremely short window of exploring the tiers before they get established, and since your choices are fairly limited and/or obvious (hero XYZ works with orcs, so if you want to use them, better include orcs, which severely limits your other choices, and many heroes are built that way). This is fine for me in PvE, where the determined min/max can be ignored easily, but in an online PvP scenario, it is likely to be very repetitive and without a hugely compelling core gameplay loop to mask the repetition. So, yes, I do think I have enough reason to conjecture that the PvP for this mode will not be engaging to play. And that's fine if it is indeed just a minor add-on just thrown in for the lol's, but Hearthstone's design history has prioritized PvP, ladder grinds, or paid arena modes over a more rich and frankly fun PvE experience. The conjecture is that PvP leads to more microtransactions than PvE does, which seems reasonable enough to me because PvP ladder grinds with micro rewards tend to tap into dopamine more effectively than non-competitive modes, which get people wanting to come back, buy what's needed to get over the next hurdle, etc. So I'm not holding my breath on this to not end up having the PvP emphasized but ultimately unrewarding for me personally. I'll enjoy the PvE while it lasts but won't expect it to be terribly deep or compelling - certainly not the rogue like they are trying to market it as.

Because they have much more leveled abilities and Trump actually used their synergies. Antonidas and Rag were using level 4 and 5 moves while Alex has level 2 Flame Buffet.

The way they promoted the gamemode was really shit, because of Trump videos i will definitely play mercenaries.

One was basic, as in a lot of different characters have a chance for it to show up in their pool, while the second was specific to that particular Merc's pool.

The basic treasure is probably offered to anyone that has fire abilities, while the "Elemental Studies" is possibly a rarer find and also only for certain Mercs. You also have to consider they're playing a build of the game that isn't finished. There's none of the new music (we have datamined 7 tracks) and you can see in this video that the Orc buff treasure literally didn't buff other Orcs. It is very likely they will still balance these out before launch, don't forget Trump played this like 2 full weeks ago if not earlier.

Not completely pack based. You can also just grind pve if you want

@@MichaelMaurice You get 3 packs for each different mercenary you own, after you finish their questline. You're also guaranteed a mercenary in your packs until you get all the rares. Which means you can get quite a lot of packs simply by playing.

Each merc has theyr own questline. So when you get New merch you have chance of them visiting quest biard and giving quest For you

it's pokemon, but simpler. 3 moves instead of 4, no abilities, 3 types instead of 18, around 60 mercenaries instead of 800 pokemon, 3 items per mercenary instead of 200+

well yeah, if you watch a random video from a guy who already knows how the mode works, and isn't trying to teach you how the mode works in the video, it's gonna seem arcane. Smdh it's like watching a chess video and saying you don't get how all the pieces can move differently.

This isn't really a fair example though. You level up specific abilities in this mode, and the fire team's abilities were higher level than the orc teams. Team fire had level 3-4 abilities, while several of the orc abilities were still level 1 or 2. The couple orc abilities that were at level 3 either had cooldowns that meant we didn't really see them or were more support based (like the taunt ability) instead of damaging abilities.

Collecting the Mercenaries over time and leveling them up and building team comps is going to take a while. It's got some legs, we'll see how long they last.

@@ezelethren964 BG has a super high replayability factor. I don't see how this can have it. I'm sure i wouldn't really replay any level after i cleared them.

It's just whiny children. Hearthstone gets a LOT of children that have no money to spend on gaming, and they default to complaining because kids feel entitled by default.

It's ironic to say that people with negative opinions on this are entitled, when in the same breath you're basically saying that Blizzard is entitled to your money because they made a game. There's a wide variety of other things to do than this, and you don't have to spend money on them. Sorry the gaming industry is a little too competitive for your taste that you spend it complaining about complaints. "If someone doesn't like what I like, I don't like them." Get a grip dude.

It’s great to sell the premise of a cool and fun game, but when the fanboys buy into it and find out it’s heavily money based, I don’t think it’ll hold water. At this point, I watch Trump for the fun narrative; I lost interest in Hearthstone years ago.
