When someone showed me this game I thought I was looking at a new Electronic Arts IP.

It was the main selling point of the game. I'm not even a big Overwatch fan, I just watch the cinematics, but people are right to be mad.

The thing is. 1. Bastion backed away first and looked afraid, the other Siege bots kinda just.. sat there and got mowed down whenever people were capable of fighting back properly against them 2. Reinhardt is like a 6 foot bearded German man in a mech suit with a rocket hammer, that's absolutely terrifying-

yeah. it was bastions and or-15s took his eye, killed his friends and his mentor. he's lost so many friends in the war. his soldiers mowed down by the exact model of bastion. he's the last crusader (from what I know). and it just expected to be fine. he's an old war vet with ptsd. of course he's gonna respond like that.

Torb fought alongside Rein in the war…so, your comment makes no sense. Torb just put his emotions aside and grew from it. Holding onto resentment is not healthy.

@@Wolfbane192 yes. cause torb spent time with bastion. he learnt about bastion. and grew to care for him. reinhardt only just saw bastion. and the last time he saw one. he was at war. a war he lost his friends, mentor and more. he hadn't gotten to know bastion. so all he could see was the machine that took so much from him.

@@halfknight2310 Exactly, the appropriate thing to do if you were Torb would be to A: Tell Rein ahead of time he had discovered a Bastion that was friendly and not hostile and likely didn't have its memories, and B: Ask Rein if he would still be comfortable around it. Give Rein some time to process this information rather than reveal in the middle of an active war. For all any of them know, Bastion could have been hacked and compromised by Null Sector. There is evidence that Rein doesn't really see Omnics as living beings, but it's wild that no one tries to talk to him about it and then acts surprised when the guy who watched this mentor die to Omnics get antsy when fucking Omnics are suddenly right in from of him in the middle of a war against Omnics

​@@ThePilleroflightningYou can't just let go of PTSD. That takes a ton of therapy and sometimes even that isn't enough. If war vets could forget their trauma at the press of a button they probably would, but it's not that simple. Besides, people can react to the same trauma differently.

Yeah he simply saw too much battles, death and wounded in the Omnic Crisis (aka WW3). Can't blame the man for being uneasy and tense around omnics today.

For real. Torb's asking Rein to keep Bastion alive, and not a word or worry about Brig being okay.

He is a warrior through and through. If you fight with him you earn respect, and in the fight bastón probably saved or had his back

Hes a knight, if you fight by his side and prove yourself then he will accept you. Its the nature of Rein. He is quick to judge but he know hes flawed aswell.

I mean he could just be putting a happy face to look good, he probably isnt 100% on board with the idea of him on the team, but can see that he could change his mind about it and that Bastion is a valuable asset to the team

It's not within a matter of these two cutscenes, there's a whole mission in between. Every step of the way is a chance for Bastion to prove either he's a threat or a companion, which is what allows Reinhardt to trust him.

For starters, this isn’t just an animatic like most others, this is a cutscene from the video game itself, from one of their missions. From these 2 clips, you only see the start and the end, with the middle being the gameplay itself. Secondly, Rein is a warrior and knight first and foremost, which is why his first instinct was to go on the offensive and put himself in front of bastion when they first meet. This applies to every aspect of being a warrior and knight, and in those times blood was way thicker than water, meaning that they formed bonds and friendships with the people they fought in battle with, and in the mission Bastion is there risking its own life to fight off against its own kind to protect Torb because Torb helped him, and protected Rein too. Third, it’s a video game with no story mode (which is part of why I stopped playing it), meaning that they can’t do multiple arcs to push that trust over a long period of time, so movie and video game shortcuts is that you do so in a moment, where lives are on the line and stakes are at an all time high. In the end, I could see Rein opening up more to bastion after it proved itself in combat. Now I do agree that some lines were corny and that he was too buddy buddy with it, but I feel that it’s reasonable that Rein at least trusts bastion to some degree now.

Yeah that's exactly what happened. These cutscenes are at the start and end of one of story missions. In the gameplay Bastion fights alongside Rein, Torb and Brig to protect Torbs workshop. Rein comes to respect bastion because Bastion risked his life fighting his own kind to protect the people they both care about.

It was the power cannon in torbs workshop, which we had to defend when Null sector attacked. It was because of that cannon the titan was destroyed

@@midnightmelony7840 dam, so far from feats. The 1st titan from the cinematic was destroyed internally by Mei backpack with the pulse bomb (i think) but the cost is mei losing the backpack, second was destroyed because it was hit in the charged up chest beam by Torb cannon which was at full power.

Bastions' PTSD is legitimately programmed into him. In his Cinematic for OW1, Bastion goes ballistic at just hearing sounds of what it thinks is gunfire and thus levels an entire forest. Torbjorn is flat out stupid for not warning Rein that a E54 unit is in his possession and is being 'rehabilitated'. It's even worse considering in the past, Torbjorn was shown earlier being neglectful of Bastion when it showed up, as he didn't trust it either. The writing is just very cheesy.

Technically in the first game, Bastion is 100% neutral. Like Junkrat and Hog. He's not part of OW nor is he part of Talon or anything resembling a team. He's a lost E54 unit now gone rogue and sentient, leaning to the good side easily due to its new found appreciation for "life". Chances are, Bastion would've been recommended to Zenyatta by Genji or the like had he had met the OW team in OW1. There's voice lines between Bastion and Zen, and Bastion and Orisa, that not enlignten us as to its new found moral alignment, but also it's curiosity. Bastion is clearly written to be the Innocent good guy with a Big Gun type of trope. A child like friend with a dark past. In OW1, Winston sends out the call to reform the Overwatch group. But in OW2, the timeline BARELY advances as it's simply the group finally responding to Winston's call from OW1. There's literally no real progress in OW1 plot wise.
