Sigh, I miss Overwatch 1 more and more as time goes on. The days where we could grind arcade for lootboxes or when you level up (that then progresses your border) were the days. I didn't spend a cent in OW1 and had all the skins I wanted.

I highly agree with you on this. Let's look at Winston for example, his monkey business skin has the epic rarity despite the hat, so does Rein's lieutenant Wilhelm one despite his shorter hair. We got all these cool skins that are similar in quality to hashimoto Kiri, but since she is more popular/the skin itself came out later it suddenly is legendary. Interesting to say the least.

I thought it was a fluke at first with Hanzo's Hashimoto skin being sold as legendary but once they did the exact same thing soon after with Kiriko it becomes clear this was being done on purpose. It's crazy how this company finds more and more ways to take advantage of and abuse its fan base.

Kiriko has a lot of lazy skins given to her that are labelled as legendary. The only ones worthy of that label is her omnic skin, Timekeeper and also the Le Seraphim collab. They actually change her details, clothes ,hair etc. rather than the usual lazy removal of her leggings and jacket that should be labeled as epics instead.

Legendaries should *AT LEAST* include a guaranteed skin-specific voice line.

What really irks me and hate that nobody brings it up is that every time there is a major event/collab event they "gift" one of these fake lengedary skins as a reward for playing the event, as if they are being generous and totally not greedy with the playerbase when in reality is just a free epic skin being passed as a generously gifted legendary skin. Junkrat lesserafim, cowboy bebop Ball etc...

You also need to tall about the weapons, epic doesn’t change the model, only colors. Legendary changes the whole model. Back to Kiriko skin, some of her skin’s weapon doesmt change model

This unfortunately happens in more games. In Smite, skins were separated into tier (2 to 5), which defined their cost and each tier had very clear characteristics (tier 2 was just slight changes to the base skin like spikes, different colors etc, tier 3 were more drastic visual changes and themed skins, 4 meant changing not only the skin but the effect and even animations in the attacks and tier 5 are progressive skins that evolve during the game) With time, not only did the price of skins changed but the cost never reflected in the tiers, especially when it comes to changing animations and effects.

It's more so that they shifted the determining factor of skin grades from design to how much they cost. Nowadays, it doesn't matter how elaborate a skin is, all that matters is how much Blizzard wants you to pay for it. I mean, heck, if I were to judge skin grades now based on how they looked, most of the mythics would be epics lmao

one thing thats really weird is the fact that the rogue kiriko skin and the hashimoto kiriko are pretty similar, the hashimoto does have a bit more colour to it with the gold and the tattoo's but either then that they could both be labelled as epic skins

Makes me wonder if they are considering alternate voice lines in the pricing. This season's Widow battle pass skin has alternate voice lines, for instance, the cowboy bebop skins had some alternate voice lines and sound effects, multiple zenyatta legendaries have fun alternate voice lines, etc. Some old school legendaries also changed visual effects to match alternate voice lines, like Hanzo's wolf skins. I wonder if they are straying from that to try to set mythics apart more? But making some characters' legendary cosmetics include less stuff yet still calling them legendary just doesnt make sense. Idk what they are thinking tbh

I personally feel like what makes a legendary skin is usually the weapon changing because thats what I’m gonna be seeing on my screen all game, the model change come second, but half of kirikos legendary skins don’t change the weapon they only recolor it. Examples are the new hashimoto, tatsumaki, and her base legendaries she released with the ones with the tights.

lets not forget Kirikos Tatsumaki skin from the One Punch Man collab, literally a recolor of her default skin with different hair and shorts instead of leggings.

It's quite simple. They just farm the loyal playerbase. Nothing surprising tbh.

The only time I truly spent money on a shop skin was with the reaper Valentine’s Day one (He looked goofy af) Which the main reason I got it was it had a lot of contrast to his default skin and I think that is one of the main factors of making a legendary skin. If you compare the hashimoto and terrible tornado skin to Kiriko’s base outfit you’ll see that the majority of the change is minimal changes to the textures and the hair having a different shape. And to compare this to (imo, Kiriko’s best legendary) the k-pop skin, you can see they became more creative with it, the skirt is transformed into a jacket while still keeping the overall shape. And the hair has more intricate details with more colors and unique shapes. The best part of all being the weapons, with each one matching the theme of the outfit. And as a character designer myself It’s a punch in the gut knowing the in depth problems of the overall designs, from colors, to proportions It definitely makes me want to throw up.

Its a minor point but this seasons legendary skin for Widow has a unique voice line for her ultimate. Last seasons mythic (moria) doesnt have one even though it did during its cosmic horror event.

ive thought about this! since picking up ow again and deciding to main the same hero as i did when i played ow1 around '18-'20, i thought itd be a fun thing to collect all their skins. the hero in question happens to be moira. so of course when i get the money to buy her old epic skins i think its fair theyre priced at 250 / 750. just a slight variation of her ow1 skin. and of course when have the money and mime is in the shop, i go to buy it. but lo and behold its legendary, apparently, and like new legendary skins is priced at a whopping 1900. for a skin designed like an epic. 400 more than a legendary event skin, 900 more than a standard legendary. i know were all talking about blizzards greed, but its not as if its unprecedented. and of course i bought it smh

new overwatch skin rarities are no longer determined by their appearance, but rather, how much they want the players to value the skins.

The two Kiriko skins in the thumbnail are a perfect example. The Conjurer Sym skin is drop right now. It was my apples to apples comparison realiziatiom before i looked at thise two kiri skins. Both have a head piece design and some extra detail work that are part of the epic standards they placed. The sym skin is an epic and looks more different overall then the Kiriko skin that's a legendary. Make it make sense. Both have the same amount of changes in the end. It's literally a best seller tax and it is absolute bullshit. The more of this crap they do the less I have any desire to pay for anything because I don't want to encourage the predatory practices. It's an epic skin at the end of the day and people paying for it are telling blizzard it's totally okay to set a standard but change it whenever they want to make extra money. It's gross. Blizzard set the expectations so they should be sticking to them. When that Mei skin came out in OW1 everyone pointed out that an effect change didn't justify the skin level. I miss that kind of community energy. Glad to see some people talking about this. Blizzard could make a ton off that skin at an epic price range where it belongs. They don't need to price gouge.

Its simple, they know people will pay the extra money, so they raise the price. That's why kiriko gets so money skins. Not saying its good, because it's not, but it's free money for them.

The worst example of this is def Moira Mime skin. It could've justify the price if the weapon and papers had a different model and design, but most of them are just a recolor too.

Given that both hashimoto shop skins are epic-quality legendaries, and Blizzard's tendency to outsource art for their games; my theory is that whoever Blizzard outsourced to do the hashimoto skins did a subpar job and nobody wanted to/had time to address it.

I'll be honest and say that of pure design the hashimoto kiri skin is not legendary. However I personally think it looks good enough to be worth legendary, although that is personal taste. I would beg to have the hair from that skin on the kiri mythic its so good. Along with the colour scheme of black and gold with small bits of white being literally the best colour scheme ever too.

Kiriko and mercy players will buy anything. I rarely see any new skin for lets say roadhog - cyberpunk one? Pretty dope for how roadhog looks - never seen. Mercy Christmas skin? DAY ONE same with the new year... Same with kiriko halloween.

idk why they even make epic skins, like if the main way to get skins now is players buying them why would they even still choose to make them. Like icecream venture, there is no reason why they couldnt take that skin and pushed it a bit further if the drill was modeled to look like an icecream instead of a decal on the base gun is basically a legendary. This season pass is not looking good. All those mirrorwatch skins are remodels but they don’t look unique, talon skins are just white armour with emo haircut, overwatch is blue armour with a visor. There’s nothing unique made for each hero. Junker skins like genji and sym are super mid. They even left out a few of them like rein sold separately instead of including in the pass. Talon rein could have been amazing but it managed to look worse than the existing blackhardt skin. The could have made him more rugged and corrupt with some glowing parts and reaper fumes but it’s just a sporty looking black suit. Mercy’s mythic is amazing but the thick opaque heal beam gives you competitive disadvantage and it stopped me from getting it.

I will never understand why people spend so much money on skins in FPS games. At least in TPS (third-person shooter) games like Fortnite, you see yourself the entire time and that makes it worth it. But in a game where you can barely see yourself such as an FPS game like Overwatch, spending money on skins just feels pointless.

Nah, they know what they're doing. They are just trying to see how much they can get away with while getting a ton of money in the process. As long as there is not a big enough outcry constantly on this, they'll keep doing these skins with minimal effort while giving them unreasonable prices. So far obviously, they still have no reason to stop this. Unfortunate (LOL, illari hasn't even gotten a real skin in a long time).

I'm rocking the 'Visuel Kei' skin, and (imo) it fits a lot better with the highlight attached to the Kiriko bundle. Thank god they made it possible to purchase the specific items you want now.
