OVERWHELMED?! Absolute Beginner's Guide To Card Making Supplies

Are you new to card making or looking to get started? Are you just plain OVERWHELMED by all the products and options? In this video, I've simplified what you ACTUALLY need to start making cards.
We will start with kits, along with premade card bases and die cut packs. When you're ready to start making cards on your own, I suggest you start with level 1 card making supplies including stamps, ink, acrylic blocks, and card bases. Once you have those items, you'll want to move on to level 2 supplies including cardstock, a paper trimmer, bone folder, good scissors, and tape runner or glue. For level 3 supplies I suggest adding a Take Your Pick tool, punches, markers and watercolor pencils, pretties such as patterned papers, die cuts, gems and ribbon, more adhesives, and cleaning tools. When you're ready to try some new techniques, you may want to add a die cutting and embossing machine, dies, embossing folders, blending brushes, a scoring tool, and heat embossing supplies to your collection. When you decide 'I can't stop now!' you may want other supplies such as masks, masking paper, chalk pastels, embossing paste, special inks, and more. For level 6 supplies I suggest getting organized with ink pad and marker storage, paper organizers, die storage, and more.

I absolutely adore you. One night at my worst, my depression was real bad, I found your stamping video. I'm new to stampin up and I tried to make a card and everything went wrong. Hi, sometimes in life we’ve to take a leap of faith. I met my husband when I was 21 and he was 23, left with him to NJ against my entire family’s advice. We moved back to Miami when our children were very little. We’ve been married for 44 years, two kids, two granddaughters, and before the end of this year, we’ll be great grandparents. It wasn’t always easy, life never is, but worth it all the way. T4s part of your journey.

Your craft retreat I’m interested in learning more. You are so very right about where God will take us. When I was in high school I always wanted to be in the military or law enforcement, I’m from the south and my parents said that was not going to happen. They said I was going to get married but I never let go of MY dream. I prayed and talked to God finally after being married and having 5 children I joined the military at age 35 and I got to have both parts of MY dream. So now when someone says it “too late” I tell them it’s “too late” only if you are dead and to not live YOUR life the way someone else wants you to live.

Enjoyed the start to a new series, even though I have been stamping for probably 30 years. I remember holding paper over the kitchen stove to heat the embossing powder 😏. My faith journey includes doing many things I am ashamed of, BUT GOD, in His mercy, has kept me away from many things that would have been very harmful.

Love this video and getting to know you. You hit the bullseye one the overwhelming feelings one gets when starting out. It does cost a lot initially, but having the basics and good quality product goes far. Tips and techniques such as the score board accents on the card is awesome. Ways to get great cards when building your supply is wonderful. Using your scraps, recycling old cards for embellishments, creating your own background cardstock, and so many other ideas to save is a great way to help relieve the cost. I’d say I’m on level 6 and organizing is key. When your room is scattered and unkept you can get lost and lose motivation. Like your kitchen having a dish/recipe, the size of the meal, groceries, time, and doing dishes as you go makes the meal rewarding. Same with cardmaking. A general plan with tools in reach and clean as you go makes you want to do it again. Verses unorganized and wasted product resulting in a less favorable result. Thank you for the motivation in this video. I also like your story on how you met your hubby. I met mine on a singles line in 96’ before the internet. Thank the Lord we have fabulous husbands and for watching over us while we took that leap. Take care 😊

Thank you for this helpful, instructional video. I've been casually using SU products for 30 years. As a hobby Demonstrator,I've started a Card Crafting Ministry at my church.
