Evenly matched teams this time, a rarity this season and resulting in a majority of lop-sided scores. East London could have fought a bit harder and won. I'll play the Devil's Advocate as usual and wonder if Antao is 'originally from' the Iberian Peninsula and how 'lucky' he was to get the 'River Tagus' question at the end when just 10 points separated the teams. The way he gleefully snapped it up I'd say he was ... Lol 17 questions + 4 misses. East London 8 starters with Harvie and Danielsen on 4 each. Harvie snapped up the 4 Lit questions while Danielsen was the Geography expert. Bonus conversion rate 46%. How could they not understand, again and again, the 'AT+...' bonuses or the 'Putin is still there!' question, a solid 20 points that would have seen them tie with Manchester. A Science/Maths rep may have helped snatch some more points from Antao. Manchester 9 starters with Antao on 4 (BioChem+2Maths+R.Tagus), Lynott & Ross 2 each, Hanson 1. Bcr 64%. Ross' evil stare atop that outfit and under that gelled hair scared the crap out of me!

Antao lost his team points by interrupting several times but managed to redeem himself with that Iberian geography question at the last! Haha.

If, as his name suggests, he is 'originally from' the Iberian Peninsula, then that would be one very 'lucky' question, winning Manchester the match Lol

S48 LOSERS’ TABLE The picture becomes clearer. I wish Paxo hadn't told everyone what score was required to go through, now I feel redundant. East London could've snuck through at the last minute, but their slow finish means they are eliminated. Exeter and Hertford - Oxford are now both officially through, tie-breaking protocols be damned. One first-round match remains, and King's - London are on the bubble. Exciting times. 175 Emmanuel - Cambridge 150 Exeter 150 Hertford - Oxford ------------------- 145 King’s - London ------------------- 135 East London 110 Queen’s - Belfast 105 York 90 SOAS 75 Pembroke - Oxford 75 Sidney Sussex - Cambridge 55 London - Institute in Paris 55 Strathclyde 50 Pembroke - Cambridge

Would there be a play-off if the final game saw the losing team score 145?

Are the winning scores a bit low or am I misremembering? Love a note on comparison of recent first rounds... And thanks very very much for the update, saves a ton of time googling :) Seriously much appreciated!

Spoilers ahead- . . . . . . . . Too bad they lost, I liked East London, Danielsen was great, their captain was just a bit too hesitant. I would've loved to see them in the Playoffs. Antao was really impatient in some questions, they could've scored more points if he didn't interrupt much. still glad that they one though :)

Either I've become way, way smarter in a fortnight, or these questions were rather easier than past weeks. I say this because I knew the answer to about 10 of these questions. Usually I know just 1 or 2 the whole match.

Mr. Hanson has that sort of face where he looks a bit like the video resolution is suddenly off. I apologize to Mr. Hanson for pointing that out, but it IS a bit funny.

It's called The University of Manchester, not Manchester University. Paxman and his staff should know better.

Lol Manchester Lynott kinda looks like Manchester Mitchell
Can anyone explain the way Ms Knecht pronounced her surname? I waited for the person announcing it before they answer a question to have a try, but of course, he never got the chance!!

It is a piece called "College Boy" originally with flute woodwinds and the whole shebang then rerecorded with a simple string quartet.
@michaelheliotis52795 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you might hear it in the background at an 18th century ball in Vienna, but instead it's just the intro of a quiz show. Louve eet. 😂😂😂
