I've been spending some of my Coronavirus lockdown time making educational videos for my students. I hope this video may be useful to bassists who are working on this repertoire, and to anyone who is taking auditions.
Unedited and in one take, I wanted to try and give an honest picture of how I might sound in a real audition, warts and all.

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you! Also how did you do those slurs for Beethoven 5 so good (8:14). You barely used any bow while I use like the whole bow for the first 4 notes :(. Imppecable bow control nevertheless

Thank you for watching! Long tone each note so you get used to controlling the flautando/pianissimo. It’s also useful to isolate each string crossing such as the first too notes looping G to C legato. And so on with each successive interval/string crossing.

Schön, dich kennenzulernen 🎵🎵. Ich finde es gut, dass du alle Stücken auswendig spielst, weil es zeigt, dass du viel geübt hast👌. Aber vielleicht sind meine Ohren schlecht 😰⁉️ Leider konnte ich die verschiedenen Töne der einzelnen Stück und die Seele im Klang leider nicht so viel hören, die von dir ausging.

Aaron Meives my bow is by Les Korus. I think he has a Facebook page. Cincinnati Bass Cellar also sells his bows. Let me know if you need more information.

Wonderfull playing and great sound. But I think the vibrato technique wasn´t strong and permanent like this in the epoch of van Beethoven. We have no idea of which is the sound and the playing technique of the 18th and 19th century. We may have to learn to play a different style maybe far away from the sound we know. Imagine another world with another sounds, orchestras and a very new job: the conductor!
