Funnily enough (and idk if they fixed this) but petting them at both at the same time use to not give the achievement. You had to pet them one after the other lol. Was weird you had to sacrifice their speak with animals dialogue for the achievement

@@tonyliu6749 No, it was a known issue. If you got the achievement as depicted in the video, it means they fixed it. Before they fixed it, entering this cutscene with Speak With Animals active would not give the achievement - though that was the version that has you pet both at the same time. The non-talk-with-animals version actually awarded the achievement, but your character would only pet one at a time.

Speak with Animals is like, the best subclass (aka ritual, you know what i mean) in this game. (clearly owlbear and scratch). But the rats, the cats, Birbs, Cows. Speak with animals makes the game so much more dynamic, its clear they put a lot of work into it. :)

@@slaturwinters1828 yeah a lot of animals will eat their young if they either don’t have another food source or the young dies or is ill. They also eat their placentas or eggshells depending on the species. Animals are pretty fascinating.

in the epilogue, the owlbear actually calls scratch big brother. I melted.

Some animals IRL do have parent-induced child mortality like that, more often when going through rough times. The owlbear cub’s comment that his mom ate his brother would seem pretty normal to a Tasmanian Devil, too, were it not for the language barrier.

And then once he's full grown you can sort of silently gloat to Gale by making it clear that as deadly as he is at that point, he's still just as loyal as ever. I can just imagine Gale's response being something like: *Player:* **smug grin** *Gale:* "....Very well. I concede the point. Deadly he may be, he's clearly not going to disembowel us in our sleep....or at least he won't disembowel *you* in your sleep. The rest of us? Who knows?" :P

Gale hasn't uttered a word to me about it. But then again Asterion gave up his little secret right away for my party so maybe weird reactions are just my luck.

The fact is that the owlbear cub is still totally loyal to you. So imagine once he's fully grown. Like if a group of bandits tries to rob you, only for your now full-grown owlbear "son" to start tearing them limb from limb for threatening his mommy/daddy....and then proudly walking up to you looking for headpats once he's done! XD

@@gamester512 that’s what I did with my paladin. Once the story was over I had myself and shadowheart adopt owl bear and scratch to accompany us on the rest of our adventures. Honestly that’s a pretty sick group for adventuring so it works kinda perfectly in the epilogue that you can adopt both of them permanently. Or at least in my head canon you do😂

I know that the current leadership in Wizards of the Coast tries to paint him as "just another old white man" (actual speech one of the current lead creators said!) like the bunch of ungrateful ingrates they are, but without Gary we would not be enjoying all these roleplay games, and Japan would not have been inspired to make a lot of fantasy works either. So much amazing entertainment, just because of a guy and his friends. It is honestly simply amazing!

I don't understand the hype for Astarion. He's okay on the eyes and has some amusing lines - but his character is so pompous/arrogant. Lae'zel's prickly attitude, Karlach's easy going nature and Gale's awkward dorkiness are far better sells to me than the arrogant vampire.

Owlbear is an absolute unit in the fights. If you've used Moon Druid to wildshape as an Owlbear you'll see just how threatening he is, except he's got permanent rage going

Maybe scratch can only distinguish sex in humans and does not understand tieflings

funny That if you attack scratch in your camp every single person in your camp will attack you and lose like 45 approval when the fight is over aka when you die. Not sure if this happens if you do the same to the owlbear as I could never hurt any of them. the only reason I know this abt scratch is because I saw someone doing it.

Not true. You can not kill her at all, you just need to pass an animak handking check. If you don't, she will be killer by the gonlins instead

Not in my game. You can persuade the mom to let you go instead of fighting her. The goblins will kill her instead and still bring the cub to camp, where you can adopt the cub like normal.

That's why for my first 2 or 3 playthroughs I always had my Tav be a College of Swords bard. I prety much had to have feather fall and speak with animals available at all times.

I did the same thing except i went to the owl bear cave after killing the goblins. Spared the mother and dipped. A few long rests later and the owlbesr came to my camp but Shadowheart scared him away. A few more long rests later and he stayed permanently

If you use an Animal Speaking potion or spell, you can talk with almost all animals in the game. :D

I'd left one KO'ed and needed to kill the bugger to get the Owlbear to come to camp. Thought I was going to have to reload a save

If you only killed the mother but not the cub, it'll either appear in a few in-game days, or you'll find it in the goblin camp.

...no? Bugbears are just big hairy Goblinoids. I know the names are similar but I think that's just it.

When you go from the Grove west to the Blighted Village, you have to cross a bridge. If you go north instead of entering the village you'll find Scratch, the dog. And the owlbear cub will join you eventually as long as you don't kill it. :)

@@KonjikiNoYami666 If you mean Scratch, he'll join you in a couple of ingame days. As for the owlbear cub, it might get taken by the goblins where you can free it and it'll join you after a couple of nights. Otherwise it will join you eventually, before you enter Act II.
