I have 05 an 05 g35x with 78k and everything u said is accurate. The only problems are minor besides like u said the expensive parts. I’ve put 10k on since I bought it a year ago and it was a great investment. I just need to replace my breaks and buy wheels spacers for my 19’ Infiniti G37 sports rims. I have so many pans for it and I can’t wait. Keep posting more and keep us updated please.

I'm really hoping that I didn't make an impulse buy on the G35X that I just bout 2 months ago. It has high mileage and I've never even considered buying a vehicle at 199k. It has 205k now, so far so good. But it does like to burn oil. About a quarter of quart of oil ever 500 miles or so. I managed to talk the guy down from $3,300 to $2,500. I was actually impressed on how nice the engine sounded for having such high mileage. The fans are really the loudest thing that is until I get on the throttle. I'm going to keep the stock exhaust, might get some test pipes that's about it. I've already drained and filled the coolant, it needed it bad and it had that yellow universal crap mucking up the radiator. Then I drained 5qts of atf and filled that as well as the transfer case, front and rear diffs. I neglected to take a look at the u joints on the front driveshaft. Apparently these are known to fail, and once they do the front diff grenades. Wreaking havoc everywhere. I have no clue if the previous owners replaced them or even done a timing chain replacement for that matter. I ordered some Valve covers w/ felpro gaskets for like $55 it also came w/ new hardware. I painted them an aluminum color. Had 3 coil packs fall apart on me,so I got 6 new ones on eBay for $45. 6 NGK Laser Platinum Plugs for only $21 on eBay. Went ahead and installed a Blox 5/16th plenum spacer. Cleaned the hell out of the intake manifold,lower plenum runners, upper Plenum, Throttle body and maf. It really wasn't too bad considering it has to be over 10yrs since it was last cleaned. Thats if it has ever been cleaned. Installed a catch can, plugged the inlet on the intake tube. Ran the driver's side emission hose behind the engine to the catch can over by the power steering reservoir. Took out the pcv valve and added a pcv delete. Ran that hose to the catch can. It has two inlets and one outlet in the middle of a baffled set up. I originally vented the outlet to atmosphere installing a all breather. But I was thinking that maybe I should have the vacuum to the lower plenum. That way it will help vent the crankcase a bit. I no longer have it venting past the MAF in the intake tube. I by passed the coolant hoses for the throttle body and I can actually tell a huge difference in temperature deductions from the CAI to plenum spacer. I also painted the plenum so that may have something to do with why it doesn't feel no where near as hot as it used to get. However I couldn't install the throttle body spacer at all. Had 2 bolts that were completely stripped. I gave up and Im not taking it all apart again just to install a throttle body spacer. Probably wouldn't even get any noticable gain's, just help with keeping the intake temps down? I need to sell it, if anyone's interested pm me. I'll let it go for $30, I paid close to $50 for it. Comes with 2 gaskets and new hardware alone with the spacer of course. Now that I got all of the basic maintenance out of the way. It seriously needs some new suspension bushings like woah. I really shouldn't of neglected to do that first. But I figured I should clean the engine and give it a good tune up first. The suspension is shot,but he told me about that. The front rotors were toast. I already got a pair of vented cross drilled rotors and ceramic brakes for the front. The brake fluid was a murky dark brown,not good. Flushed all of that crap out. The atf and transfer case fluids weren't in real bad shape. They atleast looked like they had been changed before. The gear oil in the diffs was another story though. It was burnt and needed replaced thousands of miles ago. Both had a lot of metal shavings on the drain plugs. It kind of worries me,and reading about how these ujoints fail a lot, really has me paranoid now. I should of known better getting a 16yr old awd vehicle with 200k. But I was really impressed in how smooth the engine was. Now it's like an awakened beast. I won't take it past 100 though. The average speed is 75 around here. So if Im not paying attention I catch myself going over 100 easily. But if the road is rough,then there's a lot of bouncing. It's getting pretty bad. It's going to be over 600 in parts alone. I can't find the bushings I need for my yr and model. Especially that damn ball joint that bolts onto the frontward lca. So I'm going to have to order each part individually. Need to look into how difficult of a job replacing that front driveshaft will be, and might as well replace the cv axle why I'm at it. I really need this car to last atleast another 60k-80k. Enough for me to keep it for 2yrs and sell it for atleast$1,500.

Great video, your G is in very nice condition for its mileage and age. One question: do you know if this model year had the seat tears caused by a metal strip beneath the leather padding? How are your seats holding up so far? Also, do you see any cracking in your dashboard at all? Thanks in advance.

Cory Quinn Thank You! My leather seats are holding up great! Only tears are from people (Previous owner) seating with things like pens in their pockets.My door panel handles have some separation of the leather, but I just haven't had time to do a quick fix.No material tears caused from the car itself.Knock on wood no dashboard cracks!

A relative of mine has a 2004 G35X, and she had a 2002 Altima 3.5SE before it, which is similar. I did a LOT of work on her Altima (valve covers, wheel bearings, catalytic converters, tie rods, brakes, oil cooler o-ring, etc), so I felt prepared when she decided on the G35X. Fortunately, the previous owner had just replaced the steering rack and a lot of the front suspension components before putting the car up for sale. I don't want to spam your channel, but I just did the front wheel bearings on the G35X a couple weeks ago, and I recorded a series of videos - really not too difficult if you use the proper tools and techniques. I agree that the valve cover job is very labor intensive; it took me about 6 hours to do that job on the Altima.

Yeah, they can be very expensive to maintain after about the 100K-mile mark. My relative's G35X has 105K, but it runs great and has no mechanical issues. If you can work on them yourself, you can save a TON of money. The Altima was going to cost around $6K at a shop to do all the work it needed, but I was able to do it myself for around $2500. Labor is a killer.

I got one a few weeks ago for a decent price. I checked the Carfax report...all routine stuff, no wrecks or major issues. My question would be how many miles are these cars usually good for? I know lots of things come into play as to the longevity of a car, but assuming it was taken good care of...any idea how long these cars can go? If you could give a estimate it would be appreciated :)
@integrafreak1
@integrafreak1 7 жыл бұрын
johnsos9 engine wise and transmission wise I believe these cars are very solid. As long as you do the regular oil change and transmission fluid (Not flush) change I think those components will be very good. Another big part of these cars like I said in the video is the suspension that has been my biggest problem but since I've fixed everything since I got the car everything has been very smooth sailing so far, knock on wood! I see that these cars will be able to reach 200,000 miles with no major issues honestly with good maintenance.I plan on keeping this car for as long as possible its a great daily driver that is fun to drive.Hope my opinion helped!

Jay Jay just regular maintenance and you should be fine these cars are usually good with transmission and engine and should last a long time if taken care of properly

Lo Yang For my car with 117K on odometer, there is no sign of major oil burn.I change my oil every 3,000 miles with full synthetic.
@mclaine33
@mclaine33 7 жыл бұрын
That seems a bit excessive to change the oil every 3K miles with full synthetic. Usually you can go 5K miles on full synth oil. Using regular oil, yeah definitely want to change every 3K.

I've owned 3 05s (2 sedans and 1 coupe) over the years and didn't have any oil consumption or other major issues. It's a great car. Makes sure the previous owner did all the maintenance and has records to show. Otherwise wait until you find one who did

@integrafreak1 6 жыл бұрын
xStaySkilledx - #Infinite In my opinion NO.I sold this one for $4,800 and I was pretty happy with that.Is SUPER clean though and fully loaded? If so, I would compare others on your local craigslist to see if you are getting a good deal or not.For me locally cars with that mileage go for right around $4,500.Lastly ALWAYS negotiate!
