The most recent episode of people doing things to kick there bear and then being shocked when they get bit. You know me as an advocate for second amendment absolutism; however, if we use common sense we could see this one coming from a mile away. TwinBros LLC was recently raided by the ATF for selling the Hoffman Tactical Super Safety. Previously these were only obtainable by 3d printing and jsut over the non-NFA line. However, in a world where words have no objective meaning the ATF redefining things that congress refuses to make law on seems to be the status quo. No one is shocked by this.

From what heard twin bros were also selling "the pepper jack" for MAC 10 / MAC 11s.. I think once everything comes to light that will be a major part of the case.

The thing to consider here is that Shops like in China that manufacture the Glock Switches will also be making these "Super Safety's" and similar and bring them along with their Glock Switches and Foreign Sourced firearms into Mexico via smuggling and then on to the USA for distribution points along with fentanyl. Cat is out of the bag, and the smuggling of firearms related items by the Cartels, that are deemed as illegal by the ATF will only increase, and they cannot be traced. Additionally, there are several Countries that make AR-15 and M-16 Parts and in fact whole rifles. Now they might not be to the high standards of US Manufacturing, but they are not licensed, and have circumvented the ITAR process.

Strange, I remember an ATF employee, Jose Luis Meneses, working in Mexico. He was importing guns and gun parts from the US to Mexico. That is a clear violation of ITAR. He didn’t get criminals charged or charged with the ITAR fines. He just lost his job.

A device that resets the trigger automatically does not fire the gun automatically. Fully automatic weapons are MORE constitutionally protected than semi automatic ones. The 2nd amendment was not written for when the deer rise up.

The ATF is getting to the point that any device in, on, or attached to a gun that can increase the fire rate will be deemed a MG for regulation purposes, regardless of what the law says one is. Next up, Binary systems. Any kind of giggle switch not invented yet.

yeah they do want to label every part of a gun and every accessory as a gun, look up the zombie gun bullshit they found out people build no-no guns with parts kits and realized they need to label every other part besides the receiver as a firearm legally too so you have to go through the same bullshit red tape you do buying a full ready made gun but for literally every single part in the kit probably down to the last screw.

The ATF has made it fairly clear their through their actions that they take a "function" in regards to triggers is a deliberate movement from the shooter, FRTs operate on constant pressure, they'll fire a full mag with a rubber band around them unlike all the other firerate increasing devices

Dude this is hyperbolic! The super safety isn't classified as anything, therefore cannot be an ITAR violation. ITAR only covers very specific listed items and the super safety isn't one of them, until now because people are basically asking the government to think about how they can weasel it in. Yeah I'm skeptical that a rifle safety is an ITAR item. I think you'd have to seriously misconstrue a safety as a machinegun in order for ITAR to really be a concern but I'm not a lawyer either. However, I am familiar with ITAR.

Very hyperbolic. It is just a bunch of fear-mongering. Nothing regarding the SS has been confirmed in writing by the aft. We don't have any evidence that the "raid" was even real. No papers/warrants have been released. The ring cam footage could have been taken from anywhere. The "raid" didn't even make the local news stations or papers. It is VERY FISHY to say the least. On another note, I don't think I would take any advice from a guy who has a big window built into the wall of his gun safe. Not the best security approach, lol.

Since the federal government has a complete monopoly on nuclear weapons inside the US nukes wouldn't be an issue. However I do understand the founding fathers intention was "any weapon we have, so to can the people have." Don't want me to have nukes? Fine disassemble them, turn them over to the NATO alliance, or something else; but at long as the US government has ICBM's and stealth bombers with nuclear warheads me having a machine gun really doesn't seem like a bit deal.

I believe ITAR relates only to exports. If you import an item to remain in the US permanently, ITAR doesn’t normally come into play. However, if you decide you’d like a thing made and provide the plans to another country to have it made, then you are exporting something that could get you in trouble. The only time ITAR would deal with imports is if the article were a temporary import and would be returned to that, or another country. According to ITAR regulations, Permanent imports of these items fall under the perview of the DOJ/ATF.

ITAR does deal with imports though. It's why you can't have a gun with 100% German parts. Even if you piece the parts together yourself and build a 100% German HK, don't let the glowies find out.

Oddly, ATF took TwinBro's SS stock, arrested nobody, and left all of TwinBro's 80% full auto dias parts they make and sell online. It's all very weird. Now there are several folks selling all CNC made versions, including on Facebook which I assume is a Glowie trap.

ATF not even once came out and made a statement. All the info everyone is going off is a twitter post from twin bros. Many of us think they never even got raided. No press release no PR from the ATF which is odd.

Its because twin bros lied…there is no evidence of this raid occurring. Also, when the fbi seizes a website, they put up a landing page that says “this page has been seized”. That never happened, it just cam up as a bad domain. Twin bros just took money and never sold anything, claimed atf raided them…but atf also lists the items seized in raids…publicly…look on the website, there is nothing on that list that indicates thery were seized. Yall got scammed. Thats why they arent talking about it….no law enforcement org ever conducted any raid…

The recent SCOTUS ruling on bumpstocks would also apply to "Super Safeties" as it concerns the ATF changing the definition of a machinegun. They can't. BUT that ruling does not apply to the (currently) 15 states that ban devices which "increase the rate of fire" of semi-auto firearms. The "bumpstock" ruling was not about the 2A, it was about the ATFs ability to change LAWS. It did not address existing STATUTES in states. Any constitutional challenge to those laws would have to come separately.

I’ve only heard about it because some gun related or adjacent shopping websites mention it when they can’t ship something internationally, usually magazines or body armor or oddly scopes. In googling this, it appears lots of things have been taken off the ITAR list recently however.

My take on this from the start has been the SS is at best, GREY area. The sending of these files to China and reimportation of them, along with the sale of the drop in f/a conversion kit for my Mac n Cheese is FAR better bait that the sale of the SS. The fact no other sellers have been raided give me more confidence in this as well. I've exhausted my luck with trying to get ahold of anyone for a copy of the warrant served.

I have seen ITAR warnings posted on EOTech's website. I wouldn't be surprised if it was written so broadly that it includes things that aren't actually arms but are military tools like body armor.

According to information I was given by ATF I think it was (been a few years) so long as the gun part is legal and not a frame/receiver there are not much in the way of import restrictions so long as the price is less than $50 and imported by an individual for their own personal use. If a company imported these, that could be an issue but if individuals were buying these they most likely won’t have any issues related to import.

I was buying some replacement airsoft parts online, almost 20 years ago, and it never said where the parts were shipped from and the website had a US address. I presume they drop shipped which leads to my next part of the story. I got a call from USCBP at Port and they told me they were seizing all of my shit. Fortunately no harm no foul but I was pissed and those assholes refused to refund. Be smart people.

The rule of thumb is: the more obscure the crime, the deeper your grave. If you get a visit from USPSS, The Secret Service, the FBI, and or the Coast Guard you are in very very big trouble. The printed ones wear out after a few mags but still, you could just pop another one in. They're literally like $1 each in filament.

It should make anyone with a brain wonder, it’s obvious why. Switches are an old, widely available design that is mass produced by countless Chinese/overseas manufacturers and sold piecemeal to US citizens as retail product. They’re not a new a novel design being commercially produced by a single domestic company that has other questionable products being produced as well. Going after the supersafety was easy, there was only one pair of idiots dumb enough take the risk and produce them commercially. The 2a foamers went apeshit over the supersafety and it caught a lot of niche attention from people who talk a big game about freedom online, and got up in arms over it. The Feds can do something about the supersafety because it was initially being produced in limited numbers by one company who had lots of niche terminally online people watching them. The Feds can’t do shit about switches because they can’t go after dozens or hundreds of overseas manufacturers selling direct to consumers. They can’t track them, they can’t do anything about them and except try and catch them in customs. It’s not like switches aren’t turning up in gun arrests regularly, they certainly are…but is it even newsworthy to report one teenager getting caught with a switch when switches are everywhere? It’s not that they don’t care about switches, but they’re not exactly able to do much about them at this point. They’re clearly interested in attempting to prevent the same from happening

Just 3-d print them. Realistically, you can make them from metal with just simple workshop tools like a file and band saw in addition to plastic ones on your 3-D printer. Anyone who sends real money for this is asking for trouble.

If you want to get real technical, you could just print the part you need as a mold, get some casting sands and make it out of Aluminum. Do a few touch ups on the part. Won’t last as long as a steel part but if it only cost a few dollars to make each one out of metal your set. Decentralization is key

A foreign manufacturer can ship to or receive from an ITAR registered organization ITAR items. Some ITAR items you can't send to or receive from China because trade embargo exist. Example you can't import Chinese ammo or guns into the USA.

Also. From what I've been hearing on forum, nearly 90% of folks haven't been able to get them from third parties anyways (obviously excluding the "lost it in a boating accident" accounts). So don't feel bad. Honestly I'd suggest you just get a printer. That way if you choose to have fun you don't have a potentially sketch chunk of metal hanging around to bung you up.

I payed TrinBros $100 for a Super Safety Early February. They took my money and were supposed to ship batch 7 at the end of February. They never did, they didn't even fulfill batch 6 orders from what I can tell. Anyway, they haven't responded to multiple emails and their website has disappeared. I'm super pissed! They stole from me, and I want my money back. I used a debit card and my bank tells me I have no recourse. I don't know what to do.

ITAR generally covers the export of anything on the USML (united states munitions list) which includes plans, and documents for how to make and operate anything else on the USML, gun parts, and the technology related to them covers ITAR. FWIW, whenever I've had to deal with ITAR it was an export issue, import for things covered by the USML, but were not otherwise prohibited from import were not an issue (i.e. Australian made scopes). The problem here, is the company who sent the designs off-shore for manufacture had to export the designs, which they presumably did without registering, or having permission to do so, which would be an ITAR violation, and then imported firearm parts (I forget, if this is 18USC or 27CFR). In the scheme of things, these are levels of the federal government you would rather not have know your name, mostly because they're staffed by the kind of people who "just want to drop a bomb" (if you've seen that movie).

I would like to add that with the twin “bois” issue from the previous issue. I don’t know if my comment was seen. While twin “bois” did produce and sell the safety. They also sold a second product named after a certain type of cheese (pepper jack) . For another thing named after a popular cheese dish with carbs. There were absolutely under the definition of the NFA and could be classified as a MG. While the ownership of mg parts is legal these parts are VERY questionable far more than the super safety It’s popular belief against the word online being pushed that this is the real reason for the raid. There ARE and were MANY domestic producers of the super safety; and many more imported through over seas manufacturers. If the super safety was the issue at hand. We’d be seeing more than just twin bros.

You do not want a VPN that doesn't protect your identity completely such as keeping your information on file. The guys over at Hoffman are Grade A guys and almost everything they do, they do it strictly for the enjoyment and to share. The only thing I've ever seen them sell was hardware kits for the STL files they create and give away freely and with what I seen them charge, they do at almost a loss. They even hired a lawyer to look over the Super Safety to judge the legality of it before they released it. I'm not sure what the government can do about 3d printing because there's no way to regulate it. Most 3d printers aren't online to show what is being printed on them. The best they'll be able to do is scare a few people into not sharing openly, even then you could draw it up yourself with relative ease. That genie is out of the bottle and you would be AMAZED at some of the stuff that's out there, anything and everything. There's parts you can print thats 💯 external, not illegal, clips on almost anything, and fires just as fast as it cycles. They would have to create a law just for it because it doesn't fit in any illegal or any other categories. If they couldn't regulate people Pirating media, this isnt any different. There's so many out there, people have started remixing them just for aesthetics and just flat out making new models. They have filament and resins that are almost as strong as metal and if you don't trust that there's 100s of websites that will machine metal parts from 3d files or print them for you. At this point, they would be better off legalizing EVERYTHING, at least then they would have some sort of record as to what most people have bought.

I’m old enough to have encountered ITR regulations back when it impacted web browsers. You literally had to have a dumbed down version of web browsers if there was a possibility that that web browser was available to foreign customers. At the time, the US government was trying to Force all US businesses to use DES and encryption scheme generally assumed to have a huge US government accessible back door. The absurdity of US businesses being forced to dumb down their web browsers when foreign competitors had no such obligation, eventually got some kind of exception put in place or reclassification, I don’t remember. This was a very long time ago.

I can easily see how someone could get in trouble for this. I downloaded the super safety plans just to see what the whole thing was about. Of course I don't even own a 3d printer...so I just uploaded the design into a website that will build things for you to see how much it would cost. I had no idea where the company was, so if I had decided to buy it (I didn't) I would have had no idea about ITAR...and 50/50 whether that printing company was in the US. Reality is that I would never have bought one as I prefer to stay off the ATFs radar...though even just downloading the file likely has me in someone's database now. As I think about it, I'll have to see if I can find the file and delete it... smh...
