A tip for clothing, if you're planning on a multi-day trip with little or no opportunities to shower in between, I recommend natural fibres like cotton. They will be best for minimising odour, compared to synthetic fibres. Maybe not as big a problem when overlanding, but could be when multi-day hiking.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT 2 жыл бұрын
You’re not wrong. Natural fibers will help with odor a lot better. I usually just bring one shirt per day but if you are using it multiple days then maybe it’s not a good idea to use synthetic.

I have wool t shirts that can literally be worn for days if you hang them up to air out. Also Kuhl makes shirts with silver ionic thread that kills bacteria so they don’t stink either.

Love this. I generally hate camping in the summer. It’s super humid where I live so I generally fall and winter. With some of this stuff, I might be able to stretch my season.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I typically enjoy fall the most camping but they close the gates to so many trails so early in the fall that a lot of trails go away. Growing up in NC the summers you had to go to the mountains and even then it was a bit too warm sometimes.

Interesting, summer camping in the MTNs, I do summer coming in the desert, Mojave, Colorado deserts. Keep plenty of water & Pedialyte light cotton clothing, really don't need all that stuff, just use what you have. Been doing it for 45 years ..

It’s not a list of everything you need, just things you might need based on where you live. I’ve camped in heat and humidity since I was a little kid, just sharing some items I’ve learned over the years. Technically you don’t even need a tent to camp but obviously I’m going to suggest it.

That Ignik fire pit is a game changer. I recently got the deluxe version and tested it out for the first time this past weekend. It was nice not having to worry about scrounging for wood when I found my camp sites or paying the inflated prices near national forests for a few bundles. I was actually using it in chaffee county Colorado. I didn't see any burn ban signs where I was but is the forest service okay with us using propane fire pits during a normal burn ban?

Hey Jason, how many hours are you getting comfortably on the fire pit with your 5 lb tank ? I am ordering one tomorrow, but I can't decide if I should upgrade to their dope pro x one with the black case that is a 10 lb tank or if you think the 5 we have now is already good enough
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT 2 жыл бұрын
I only ever use it on medium to low flame but I haven’t run out of it in a few trips yet. They claim that with the 5lb tank at full blast you get 2 1/2 hours and on low you get 4hrs. I don’t really see how that’s possible, I would have imagined more than that but maybe I only run it like an hour or less a night.

I was listening until you said you were in Colorado. Ok, I live in Tennessee and there is no altitude that is comfortable this time of year. It is hot an humid right now. No camping until the humidity comes down below 75% and the temperature gets under 80 degrees at night. We don't have burn bans because at LBL (Land Between the Lakes) you usually get a thunderstorm in the afternoon which makes everything muddy and the humidity go up to 95% after that. Kentucky lake temperature is in the 80's so it's great for cooking. October we can all pile in again. Oh and you would need about 100,000 of those mosquito things to keep them off of you. LOL!

I get you, I grew up in north Carolina and went to school in the absolute swamp of the eastern Carolina’s. The mosquitoes are brutal and the humidity is no joke.

Yes so you know then. Obviously I was joking but I liked your video so I subscribed. We can camp all winter here for the most part so when the highs are in the lower 80's it gets in the 60's at night. It's apple and oranges depending on where you live. I hate this hot stuff and stay inside which drives me crazy. Patients is required right now.

@@jeffmorris739 I actually mostly moved out here because of the heat. Was living in charlotte driving to work and even with the AC in my car on my button up had a huge wet spot on the back of it and I had a presentation that day. Sort of the first step to moving out here. I do miss the Appalachian mountain weather though; If there were good jobs in Asheville/ Knoxville in my field I would have stayed out that way. NC/SC/TN/VA is so beautiful and still affordable (kinda).

Xero shoes makes hiking sandals that are much thinner and lighter than chacos personal preference they are as durable and generally cost less. They are minimalist, so they take a little getting used to if your hiking gear of choice is heavy thick soles. Ztrails are the ones you would like if your a Chaco fan they are from Boulder, Co. and can be found for sale several times a year In the $39-59 range which s when I buy them.
