I know this is an old video... but I'm wondering if the round shape of the mouth piece is important? This is what I struggle with. My mouth wants to shape differently to get the strongest exhale. But perhaps that is the point?

1 mistake. the peak flow meter shouldnt it be perpendicular to the patient istead of facing down?

The gentleman giving the test is amazing. I had this test, was not told to take a deep breath, to sit up, and I blew 10 times or more because, the "pulmonologist " ( only one we have here!) would get "mad" at her, the woman giving test, if there wasn't 3 identical blows. I had my tongue in the hole and no seal....HOWEVER! theaw pulmonologist yelled at ME that the test could not be mine, put the incorrect test on my computerized medical records.....it's been the worst experience in my life and yes, I'm not really young! If things don't seem right to you, they are not. So, don't go ahead with any test. EVER. So, wish I could have a professional like this gentleman. And, blessings and prayers for a cure for lung diseases, our "moonshot"!

This is an example of a test that could be done by people who have some medical knowledge to test the population instead of using a higher qualified person who would spend months or years in the medical craft. Set this up at schools, seniours centers, health shows etc.

How long should we wait to perform the test after short acting beta blocker or bronchodilator has been administered?
@OxfordMedicalVideos
@OxfordMedicalVideos 9 жыл бұрын
JanitorialDude Before bronchodilator testing the patient should stop short-acting beta 2 agonists for 6 hours, long-acting bronchodilators for 12 hours and theophyllines for 24 hours. Administer bronchodilator (at least 400 micrograms salbutamol) and repeat spirometry after 15 minutes. An increase of >400 ml from baseline in FEV1 is suggestive of asthma -smaller increases are less discriminatory. Hope this helps.

I've just got my peak flow meter today but my respritory consultant gave no instructions on what the readings mean or to infact give them to him after two weeks. I can't get above 100 on the meter, I have asthma and recently I was diagnosed with early onset emphasimia along with having bullae in my lungs. So I am wondering is that normal, and with my new inhaler symbicort will this number get better?
