Listening to this exchange even once could provide valuable insights into the art of constructing a persuasive argument. On the other hand, hearing it multiple times might turn you into a Middle East expert. In Muslim countries, Jews are regarded as “Dhimmi” and were subjected to a number of restrictions, the application and severity of which varied with time and place. Restrictions included residency in segregated quarters, obligation to wear distinctive clothing, public subservience to Muslims, prohibitions against proselytizing and against marrying Muslim women, and limited access to the legal system (the testimony of a Jew did not count if contradicted by that of a Muslim). Dhimmis had to pay a special poll tax (the "jizya").

There are so many languages in the world, yet he decides to speak facts!!

Based on the comments praising Mr.Prager, I thought I would hear some compelling arguments. Sadly the only point I heard was Mr.Prager try to explain that this argument is foolish, and he didn’t even defend that point. To point 1: Israel is the greater threat in all of those causes. The scenario doesn’t change because Israel represents some of the earliest western involvement in the Middle East during the 20th century. All of these militia groups arise due to the actions/existence of Israel, and the Arabic governments who support Israel. I don’t want to be unfair here, but these groups cannot really exist independent of Israel. They are opposite and opposing forces. Israel is the greater threat to peace in all of these scenarios because it brought with it the opposing forces that we are talking about. People seem to downplay how much of a shockwave the founding of Isreal has had in the Middle East. It has been a massive butterfly effect that we still feel today unfortunately. To point 2: I have to agree with Mr.Prager’s note about wars being either between a free state and a police state, or between two police states. Except here we do not have a free state against a police state. If we are being generous, we can call the Israel-Hamas war a war between two police states. If we are being honest though, this is a war between Hamas, a militant group fighting for a sovereign state, and Israel, a police state opposing that state’s sovereignty. There is no way Israel is a “free” state, not with the backyard they have. Mr.Prager says there were no settlements in 1967, why wasn’t there peace? Firstly, the settlements started right after the 1967 war. And maybe that war happened because in 1948 Israel muscled its way into the Middle East against the opinion of the majority. Are people just supposed to swallow that injustice? Jews were only 1/3 the population and owned just ~10% of the land. Yet they were offered 53% of the land by the UN. It was a blatant robbery on a world stage. There was also no Hamas at that time, so why wasn’t there peace? Who has been the consistent opposition to a Palestinian state after all of these years? It’s very true that justice is the prerequisite to peace. at 8:00 -This whole mention of beheadings and low Arab morals is flooded with a western lens. People around the world have different values that they keep. In the west people value their freedom the most. In the East, people may value their dignity more, or their respect more, or maybe they don’t value the outside world as much as you. Or maybe they think it’s appropriate to behead someone for a crime. These beheadings are also done by fundamentalists groups and somehow that is supposed to be representative of the Arab world. This is the usual Zionist tactic of animalizing Arabs so you can treat them like such. Are we supposed to support a colonist state because they are subjectively a more “moral” society? 10:15 he mentions genocide in Ukraine and I believe he is referring to the Holodomor of the 1930s. The Soviets feared Ukrainian revolution and implemented unrealistic farming quotas. The Soviets began mass imprisonments and blockading of Ukrainians which lead to their demise via starvation. It’s certainly genocide but Interesting that Mr.Prager believes so too. 10:40 these actions by Hamas are not in a vacuum. Israel has its foot on the neck of those in Gaza and you really do expect them to do nothing about it. What should a Jew do in that situation? Should he/she support a resistance? Or should they just let themselves be subjected to the boot? 11:30 this comparison between Gaza and Germany is so sensationalized. He is comparing Britain’s actions from 70 years ago to those of Israel in modern times. And a reminder that Gaza does not have an army, no Air Force, no navy. These human beings with families are sitting targets to air strikes by their own neighbor who controls their air rights. That is why we care about the numbers Mr.Prager. The numbers don’t determine who’s right and who’s wrong, but history has determined Israel’s crimes and they also happen to have more blood on their hands too. This whole thing was a deflection attempt by Mr.Prager but I hope we can eventually find peace. Peace to all.

An honest person who found him/herself convinced by these arguments to change his/her opinion on this topic must admit that it was an antisemetic bias that rendered the previous opinion tenable. I have a lot of respect for Dennis Prager. Both as an intellectual thinker and a Jewish religious scholar. If you want a better understanding of the Old Testament, listen to his contributions to the Exodus series here on KZfaq. So much has been lost in translation of the Bible over the centuries and he not only knows what the earliest known copies say and mean but it really cleared up a lot of the logical and personal problems I had with the Bible when I was younger. One example is why everything in Leviticus is punishable by death. It's not a physical death but a spiritual one and the physical deaths are expressed differently even in current translations.

You are right in a sense. But as an Israeli I gotta wonder if some of previous governments hadn't used that fact that Hamas is strong and the weakness of the palestinian authority to avoid reaching a peace treaty and ignoring the Palestinian plee to return to the negotion table, sighting that "there is no partner".
