Oxygen Free Transfers from Fermonster to Corny Keg

I have used all kinds of different fermenters over the years but I always go back to the practicality of a lightweight, clear "Fermonster" fermenter as it suits my brewing needs just fine. This video is my process for protecting my beer from oxygen as one might do with much more sophisticated equipment. The reasons why I currently use the Fermonster instead of a conical:
1. Inexpensive.
2. Seals well enough and can handle enough pressure for a closed transfer.
3. No major disassembly needed for cleaning.
4. Fits in my mini refrigerators.
5. No desire to pressure ferment, collect yeast, or carbonate in primary.
6. Extra points for seeing how clear the beer is without pulling a sample.

Thanks Bobby! I needed this!! I understood when you explained it at the shop and when I got home it was like I forgot everything. Life saver!!

Thanks Bobby. I like your explanations for curtain points in this video to keep tragic messes from occurring. I am certainly prone to messes. Cheerz.

Hi Bobby. Basically the same as mine, but I set up two of your cold crash guardians, to capture CO2, which saves on using CO2 to purge the fermenter. 👍

Yep explained really well. Especially the pitfall about sloshing up the fermenter if you don’t have that blowoff

Just what I was looking for! Do you think having the spigot version would be an issue? Also do you have the link for the gas/liquid posts you used?

Awesome video, thank you. Can you tell me what parts and size hole you used to modify the lid for the gas and liquid posts?

First off, great video. Thank you for sharing! Second, do you remember where you got that ball lock free-flow connector from? Having a hard time finding one. Cheers!

Excellent explanation of how you transfer. Just wondering how much wort you put in that fermenter? Thinking about getting a 3 gal fermonster myself as i only brew for 2.5 gal kegs

I've gone as high as 2.75g for a full 2.5 output.

I know this is an older video, but do you have part number to build that fermonster lid with the floating dip tube? Thanks!

Quick question - when fermenting with this setup, can you just run a tube from the gas in connector as your blow off tube - and just put the other end in a bucket of Star-San?

Yes, that's exactly how I do it but you should be warned that if your krausen gets out of control, it's possible to clog the poppet valves and overpressurize the fermenter. Leave enough head space and keep temps under control.

So when you change the lid of the fermenter you don’t get any oxygen in? How do you pressurize de fermenter? You add CO2 or the last days of fermentation are enough to do so?
@BobbyFromNJ

I don't actually change the lids. I have four of these lids made up because the most fermentation I can simultaneous support in my minifridges is four of the 3 gallon Fermonsters. Sometimes I use two 7G or one 7G and two 3G, but either way, I have four lids with ball lock connectors and floating diptubes. I use a grey QD with a short hose as my blowoff into a dish of starsan and when fermentation is obviously finished, I remove that grey QD and attach CO2 at about 2psi and lower the controller about 10F. The next day, I squeeze the fermenter to see if it's still hard. If so, 10F lower on the controller. I keep doing that every day until I'm at about 40F and then I do the process shown in the video.

@@BobbyFromNJ Why do you add co2 at 2psi after removing the grey adapter? What does QD stand for? Quick-disconnect?
