Please read: Every time I make one of these videos, I get at least a couple of comments saying "that seems like a cool manga/anime, I'm going to read/watch it now!" I need everyone to understand that these videos are purposefully made in an "anti-analysis" style. Especially in the case of this video, I don't do a very good job at capturing the actual intensity of the manga (that's on purpose, I think that's where the comedic value comes from). What I'm trying to say is if you haven't read Punpun, understand that this video is not an accurate representation of the manga, and if you're struggling with depression, consider twice before reading it. I can't imagine how it could've affected me if I was in a bad place while reading it. Alright that's about it, have a great one :)

Reminds me of "No Longer Human" by Junji Ito. I would describe it as very bitter feeling throughout the manga. The ending was bitter-sweet. It's good that Punpun is alive, but it's terrible that Punpun is alive.

After finishing all of Oyasumi Punpun in a single sitting, and really taking some time to digest and understand everything I just read, I can say with some confidence that I hated it. This coming-of-age story is genuinely a unique experience, and one that'll stick to you long after you've already read it. Punpun's story and his journey are not happy ones, they leave you reeling with an indescribable and uncomfortable feeling in your chest. Watching Aiko and Punpun's toxic relationship was genuinely jarring, and left me feeling a mixture of pity and disgust towards the two. Yet, this is the only manga I've ever read that has honestly impacted me so deeply. Did I enjoy reading Oyasumi Punpun? No. Will I read it again? Definitely. Would I recommend it to someone else? Absolutely.

This is my exact thoughts, but just Swap the end result. Did I enjoy it? Kinda. Will I read it again? HELL NO. Will I recommend it to people? No. But I will tell them about it to the point where it's a passive aggresive recommendation.

After reading it I wanted to know how others felt about it and boy was that a mistake. I found a lot of girls saying how they "kin" Aiko and how they want someone like Punpun who would obsess over them. I even start to question those that would cosplay Aiko and it's usually the version of her towards her suicide with the missing teeth and bruises. It was sickening.

pegasus is arguably the main antagonist of this story, he is the cause of all the worst things that happen throughout the events of the story, from deluding aiko's mother leading to aiko and her mother's deaths to separating seki and shimizu, almost causing their demise. you definitely should not ignore pegasus' chapters as he's one of the most integral parts of the story

@ZINURU TW for suicide, murder, and sexual assault To summarize after punpun doesn’t meet up with aiko to go to kagoshima they distance themselves until around middle school when she dates a badminton player who has an infection in his heel they make a bet to see who can be with aiko depending on a match when his ankle acts up and he looses. Aiko asks if punpun will go to kagoshima with her once more and he refuses. skip to high school he’s studying hard and his uncle has met a woman who he lives with and that takes care of punpun and his uncle after his mother. In high school it mostly focuses on the uncle and a bit on shimizu and seki who have reunited after seki saves shimizu from bullies. With the uncle the woman that they live with takes care of him but he ends up making a mistake in their relationship and sleeping with someone’s wife who’s husband then extorts him and in result he runs away without telling his girlfriend or punpun. His girlfriend and punpun are talking in a coffee shop where she met his uncle and she sexually assaults punpun. Some time passes and he later finds out from his mother that they got married. Punpun enters the adult world and depressing encounters ensue. Skipping over lots of plot he meets a woman named sachi and they try to make a manga together it doesn’t work out and they distance themselves from each other then he reunites with aiko which is the beginning of the end in a way atleast emotionally. They both enter a depressive state of mind and punpun meets with sachi who tells him that shes pregnant with her ex husbands kid and she wants him to come with her for an abortion. Instead of meeting with her for the appointment punpun skips town with aiko and goes to explain to her mother that they are leaving. Aikos mother calls her ungrateful and goes to attack her when punpun defends her and strangles her after strangling her he answers the door for a package and they run off together. They bury the body in the woods and travel together all while both of their mental states decline. They eventually decide to go to kagoshima together just like they had planned when they were little and they start they’re journey there. The journey proves fo be tough and on an island on the way punpun nearly kills aiko and himself but aiko talks him out of it and confesses that she was the one who killed her mother by stabbing her when he went to receive the package and they continued traveling. Next is one of the darkest points in goodnight punpun which is when they arrive at kagoshima only to find it abandoned aiko expresses her love but when punpun comes back from looking for people he find her dead body and sees that she hung herself. He denies that this happens and travels carrying her body in his back until they get to a house and he is escorted back into civilization and ends up back around in tokyo. In tokyo he returns to a building that i think was the old factory punpun and his friends visited when they were little and tries to kill himself when the Sachi the now successful manga writer finds him and takes him to the hospital. He is caught for the murder of aikos mother and is on probation where we then see a year later that he is living happily with a job sachi and her child. He, out of coincidence, meets with an old elementary school friend -the one who got dumped by the girl the day of starting to go out- he became a teacher and punpun finally seems happy in life. The ending follows the teacher to his work where a new student arrives and a young boy falls in love with her which seems to repeat the cycle of goodnight punpun. -This is skipping lots of character development and a large part of the Pegasus Cult with shimizu and seki
@thebossyfoosh_27903 жыл бұрын
@ZINURU It isn’t quite explained but is joked about when sachi is with him in the hospital while he heals from the aiko incident. She’s showing the new “main character” for her manga and she shows a drawing of the younger bird like figure of punpun. She’s jokes about it and says something along the lines of “ha as if my publisher would never let me get away with that” and says that it’s just a doodle that her friend drew

About a third of the way through and it's just so unsettling how relatable it is to that little voice in the back of your head that tells you "you're a piece of shit and everything is your fault and you don't deserve to be happy" it the most straight up raw way. Everyone is looking for love to cope with their misery and filling that void they call god with their unfiltered honesty. Do not know why I started reading this at 10pm thinking I could put it down, then it was already 5am and trying to figure out why I don't trust people that like me. It's so good, so sad, so real and just one bad thing after another. I don't know if I am enjoying this so much because it's entertaining or just waiting for something nice to happen. But everyone is definitely making the wrong decisions for all the wrong people. Getting ready to dive deeper into the abyss that is Oyasumi PunPun!

The manga's surrealism is strangely relatable to me. It's like you let your mind wander for one second and the whole yarn ball falls apart. The manga isn't even just sad because bad shit happens, it's just simply bleak and perfectly encapsulates the feeling that you in your infinite insignificance, no matter how loud you shout, would never actually amount to anything. You'd expect the feeling of insignificance from stories such as "to you, my immortal" or "firepunch"
