I love how nerdy and lifeless this practice is, it’s a good perspective for how to add feeling and life to performing music. Oz is a beast.

String instruments have a distinct advantage in that transposition most often requires merely moving the pattern up or down, so use it to its best effect.

Check out a Masters class easily found on KZfaq by educator Lorne Lofsky. Having a PhD in physics and math would be a great place to start. The experienced recording and live theatre players often study with him. Sheesh wish i had some talent and practice discipline . Keep on playing guys. Someone soon will be the next Hero😊

Great lesson. A logical approach to jazz. Some of the notes sounded fizzy, maybe a KZfaq and my headphones.

What if we don't want to play standards? What if we're sick to death of the standards? What if jazz is for people who can't actually play music?

people don't want to hear you say they have to work on it. That's the last thing they want to do. Besides, you don't need to be a good musician anymore. People can't tell the difference anymore. If you're on youtube, and you're holding a guitar, you're a genius.

You are so right! That’s the saddest thing : people can’t tell the difference anymore…All around this globe people are getting more and more uneducated in every aspect because of the decline of the learning/ school system and because of the mass-media that promotes only low to lowest level of shows, music ,art in general ,fake news and more….

They most definitely can tell the difference. Don’t short change peoples ability to recognize talented musicians… in my experience…thats kind of a cop out for my own self conscience issues… and a jaded way to approach music in general….

@@kevinarbogast9309 You have great points of course. I'm a life long guitar player. I have been on KZfaq since it started around 2005. I have seen things go downhill since then. The sped up videos. The painted on smiles in the videos like they're at a JC penny portrait shoot. Below average players posting covers of classic solos and getting "wow, you're better than Stevie Ray Vaughn!!!" Below average players with millions of subs because they're great at bullshitting people. Meanwhile a once in a lifetime genius like Julian Lage has barely 100,000 subs. After 20 years of this shit, i just feel totally done. Again though, you're correct. I'm just jaded. But for good reason. :)

Guitarists love their authentic single coils with all the noise but it's a a real pain for the audience. Go noiseless folks, particularly when demonstrating solo guitar.
