Overwiev of few generators and kinda simplified explanation how those work.
I was thinking about making some ozonolysis video, because I can not find some "quickstart" on that subject. That may be because it is not as simple as it looks like...

Note that those generators will form NOx gases.
Sorry for crappy naration - I realy have to train this a lot. The last few minutes of my speech was simply unusable so Daisy completed this vid for me.

VERY INTERESTING . I see you got other videos on making an ozone generator. I was going to try to build one back a few years ago for ozonolysis but it was just to much money for that and other things i would have needed and to much time. I get side tracked to easily. So i said screw it and did not even attempt to build one................ I LOVED your video on ozonolysis

Thanks, glad you liked it :) I would say that I get sidetracked easily as well, but I guess it takes some patience to prepare 4 years for a reaction lol.

@@IlusysSystems ...........Lol. Yeah it may be another 4 years till i actually do an ozonolosis. There is just to much equipment needed to do it safe. But i should have been thinking like you and tried a micro experiment.. VERY COOL. I am the type who knows a little about all the sciences but DEFINETLY not an expert an any science. So 5 years ago i said no more. Stick with one thing until you know it all. If i would have tried to build an ozone generator it would side tract me for sure towards elecrromechanics, Sometimes i get obsessed when i get side tract. So that was another reason i did not make one. ANYWAYS buddy keep up with the great videos you make

Using plastic as your dielectric (the insulator between your conductive layers) won't really work because you'll just get something like the breakdown of a capacitor, which is basically what these things are. In short, what happens is the current discharges through the plastic at a single point due to dielectric breakdown which creates a charred spot of carbon by pyrolysis of the plastic due to the heat of the discharge and will form a conductive path for current to travel through because the carbon is conductive. You should look into dielectric material properties, dielectric breakdown and the workings of capacitors to finetune your design better. I may be mistaken about the exact mechanism, it's been a while since I've studied electrostatics, but the theory should hold true. You want a material with a high breakdown voltage. The formation of ozone depends more on a high voltage to ionize O2 into free radicals, which combine with other O2 molecules to form ozone, so a higher voltage would be much better. Also, don't breathe in ozone if you don't have to. Use this in a well ventilated area. Ozone is quite toxic and will cause damage to your lungs through oxidative stress. What's happening is he generates a high voltage between the inside and the outside of the tube, and the glass insulates it and prevents any current (electrons) from flowing between the two. The high voltage rips oxygen (O2) molecules in the air apart into two individual oxygen atoms. Single oxygen atoms are really reactive, so they'll each combine with another O2 molecule in the air to form ozone, which is just 3 oxygen atoms joined together, or O3. The same thing happens way up in the ozone layer of the Earth. Except instead of a high voltage, it's ultraviolet light that gets absorbed by the O2 molecules and causes them to split into individual oxygen atoms which go on to combine with other O2 molecules to form ozone. I hope that explained it without getting too technical. Cheers.
