There was not an oiling issue - those sloppy lifter trays are the clear culprit here. The lifter trays/buckets should be a snug fit on the lifters. You shouldn't have been able to pluck the trays out of the engine without bringing the lifters along for the ride. Also, be mindful of using a magnet on internal engine components, as it magnetizes them. I realize you weren't going to re-use those lifters, but if you had - you'd have magnetized lifters collecting fine ferrous debris in a very, very highly stressed area (roller on cam), which will tear shit up. Literally the LAST step of manufacturing of those lifters, before they go into their final packaging, is being passed through a degauss ring that removes all magnetism.

change those lifter buckets , its the main cause for this happening as the lifters can turn side to side when the lifter buckets are worn . Dont buy chinese knock offs either

Looks like a lack of servicing, I just removed my dod lifter’s after 225,000 ks as part of the cam upgrade and the cam and lifter’s where like new. Service your car with top quality oil and parts people 👍

Can you give some insight as far as diagnosis? I have one cylinder not firing, and that slight squeak sound at cruising rpm. Trying to figure this out

if 4-5 lifters has a scratches, is this issue is serious and lifters need to be replaced ? i replaced only lifters' guides. Scratches are visible (mostly on non-afm lifters) but can't feel by fingernails, not so deep I mean

What causes them to fail like that? Also do you guys see many examples of Piston slap in LS3 engines? my VFII makes a sound like piston slap which goes away after its warmed up. Is this something to be concerned about?
