I forgot how much of a great showman Randy Castillo was behind the drum kit. Really charismatic, from the stick spins, and hitting himself in the head, all that stuff. Tommy Aldridge is a helluva hard act to follow behind the kit since Tommy is all charisma and showmanship behind the kit himself. Funny thing, Randy's double kick Yamaha drum kit reminds me of Tommy Aldridge's kit. Except it has a few more drums, and Zildjian cymbals instead of the Paiste cymbals, which Tommy prefers. I'm liking Paiste's great cutting power myself. Cuts right through all those amplifiers in ways Zildjian and Sabian just don't seem to anymore. Anyway. Phil Soussan is looking great here, that's for sure. He definitely has such great stage presence. I forgot Jake was there through a couple of personel changes in Ozzy's band. Was sorry to discover Don Airey wasn't playing keyboards on this tour. Oh well. Take what you can get. The band and Ozzy both sound great here, 80s hair metal fashions and hairstyles and all. Oh. And cannot forget to say Rest In Peace, Randy. He's drumming for the angels now. Right alongside John Bonham. (Also a longtime stalwart Paiste cymbals advocate, now that I think of it.)

Great to hear this without a ton of pinch harmonics! Jake is the man.
@toddvandell854 жыл бұрын
@Coyote Vazquez I'm not an electric guitarist myself, though I do play some acoustic guitar. Why all the hate for pinch harmonics? Or is it really just more about hating on Zakk Wylde in general? I notice that it seems like no other guitarist gets bashed on for using pinch harmonics, other than Zakk. Or is Zakk the only one who uses (or over-uses) them? I remember when everyone seemed to feel like Zakk was the second coming of Randy Rhoads, when he first got the gig playing for Ozzy, but then I started noticing all the bitching and whining about Zakk's over-use of pinch harmonics. And why exactly are pinch harmonics bad, again, for those of us not entirely fluent in electric guitar speak? Do any other guitarists actually use pinch harmonics, outside of Zakk? Or is it a thing unique to Zakk alone? And why all the hate over use of that technique?
@jacewhite98664 жыл бұрын
toddvandell85 It’s called a “squeal” BTW
@toddvandell854 жыл бұрын
@@jacewhite9866 What's called a "squeal"? The pinch harmonics? Doesn't really explain it. Or, if it's called a squeal? Why does everyone always call it "pinch harmonics" then anyway? Is that a kinder attempt to say his playing has become lazy, sloppy, and careless? Or is it more about over-reliance on one particular technique? And nobody complained about those "pinch harmonics" when Zakk first came to prominence with Ozzy. Why now? One would think he'd be getting better over time. These complaints would seem to indicate otherwise. And why the seeming animosity and hatred for all things Zakk? Why have so many turned on him? Did he get too big of an ego? Be honest. That happens to a lot of rock stars. Why single Zakk out for so much open loathing? I'm still curious, and your answer left me with even more questions. Obviously. 🙂
@jacewhite98664 жыл бұрын
toddvandell85 omg dude no ... “squeal” is the known nickname for “pinch harmonic”...and yes Zakk does it a lot but that doesn’t take away his talent... I think Jake is ok but I don’t really like his feel on solos...being a guitar player all my life and knowing Randy back in the day , none of these kats hold a candle to him... Randy Rhoads was legendary...Zakk is basically a clone of Randy...Here’s a link to one of my songs ( and yes I do squeal on it ) I’m doing all the guitars bass and vocals on it “Love Stainz" by yours truly 🙌 - www.reverbnation.com/open_graph/song/29712544
@backtoshallabal6662 Жыл бұрын
@@jacewhite9866 a clone of Randy? I don't hear any classical influences much on Zakk's playing hes really blues based hard rocked influenced. Songwriting sounds much different than Randy's. I disagree with your take on Jake. I love his playing, he knew how to cover those solos without fully changing it but also adding his own touches. compare his solo on Paranoid to Randy. Randy went out of key not sure if he wanted to piss off Ozzy or just he did not know what to play. Randy was better in the studio and can play unaccompanied stuff, but I feel like Jake was better live as his playing was much more wild, and unorthodox as he was influenced by EVH.

@JohnDoe-nj3vj4 жыл бұрын
@@OggaDugga Give me a break man... Randy is the reason Ozzy is who he is today. Are you inferring that Randy couldn't improvise, because I am sure he could do anything Jake could do. If Jake was all that, then why does Ozzy play so much more from the Randy material than from the two Jake albums? Because outside of side 1 of BATM, the rest is all filler with a decent riff here and there. Lets put Jakes best song up against Randy's worse song.. You see where I am going with this. Because Randys best songs crush "poser" Jakes stuff.

So Ozzy fires Jake but lol unbeknownst to the stupid bassist Ozzy had thought about getting rid of him several times during the making of and touring support of Sin but that Jake kept telling Ozzy to keep him and which Ozzy did. But now without Jake there to protect him Ozzy kicked dummy bassist out of band and replaced with Geezer. Foolish bassist broke up great band because of greed and pride. Not totally his fault since ozzy did the firing but he certainly planted the seeds. That said the world was better off with 3 badlands albums and 2 very good zack albums.
