Randy Rhoads is considered one of the most talented Rock & Roll guitarists of all time. From his time with the band Quiet Riot to his eventual move to the Ozzy Osbourne band his musical talent was amazing. Little did he know his life would be cut short in a tragedy right here in The Villages area on March 19, 1982. We have just passed the 40th anniversary of the tragedy that killed Randy. I am am very surprised that the anniversary went without mention in the local news. This is our attempt to remember Randy Rhoads.

I have met Jerry Calhoun at the Lake Sumter Square. A very nice gentleman. We and his twin brother, Jack, were country recording artists. He regaled me with a quick version of one of their hits….. singing it right there during a band break. Very personable, stately gentleman!

Thank you sooo much for this video. I’m 53 years old now and I have been listening to Randy since I was young. He’s my Idol and always will be till my death bed. There’s nobody else that means more to me than Randy. I wouldn’t be able to do what you guys did. It would just tear me apart 😢😢 again, thank you..

My Dad worked for Don Arden, Sharons Dad, and toured with Ozzy from the very earliest days with Randy. He said Randy was the the absolute sweetest kid and him and Rudy Sarzo, the bass player, where the best people in Rock. My Dad had a fight with Ozzy just days before this happened and flew home to the UK, otherwise the chances are he would have been on that plane as he was close to Rachel (whom was Sharons Nanny from a very early age) and Randy would have talked my Dad into flying with him. Sharon mentions my Dad fighting nOzzy in her book. Ozzy was drunk and attacked Sharon and my Dad stepped in. This can be 100% verified with Rudy. My Dad had not yet reached the UK when news of the tragedy hit and my mum didnt know if my dad was on the plane as the first news reports in the UK just said plane crash!

@@leonmohan1708 Rudy Sarzo wrote quite alot about the fight with your dad and Ozzy...and that your father was a British Boxing champion back in the day, and was employed by Don Arden...however, he wrote that it was June to August 1981 that Harry was sent by Don to "look" after Ozzy and Sharon....and that after Harry punched Ozzy in the face, Sharon had to send Harry back home to England...and that the crash took place a good 8-9 months later....thats what he wrote in his book.

Wow!! Remember that day like it was yesterday!! Was living up in Rochester NY. Now I'm a couple miles away from accident site.. Never knew it was here that it happened. Thanks for the history lesson. R.I.P Randy....

I do as well. Rochester NY is still my home. Not sure if you know but the only performance of good quality of Randy was filmed on the After Hours TV show in Rochester.

@@randybayle4383 Yep. Brother Wease late show. Interview was done by Charlie Fitzsimmons, one of Wease's producers at the time. He is now the owner of Black and Blue steakhouses. It's one of the only interviews he ever did. If you ever see a program about Randy Rhodes, it usually always has that interview.

Incredible video!!! I am 58 and have played guitar since I was 10 so I remember when this happened. I was a big fan of Randy’s. It is so crazy that I was in the Villages this past Friday visiting a friend who just happens to live in the village of St. Catherine’s so this is a little weird. Great job as usual guys. Keep them coming.

Dave, one of my idols growing up playing guitar. He was great with music theory and one of the first to use classical progressions in rock. Side note, same day as firefighter Mike Goff’s death in Petersburg.

Wow I didn’t even pick up on that fact that it was the same day as Mike died. Brenda and I have been very intrigued with the background of the crash since Lin Doak let us know about it. Just a few miles from our house. He probably flew over our land before the crash.

The person who went to the church after Randy's death and saw Ozzy crying in the church was Rudy Sarzo. If I remember correctly Rudy speaks of it in his book titled 'Off The Rails'.

Dave. You miss quoted several different things. FYI. Jerry was one of the original investors in the Villages. Jerry Calhound & His Lady friend go over to the villages and listen to Music EVER afternoon when he is in town. Which is most of the time now. Jerry and his twin brother Jack are members of the Grand Ol Opera . One of Jerry's most favorite things to do is They take their fold up chairs and dogs and go enjoy the music. You may have even seen him there and not known it!.

Go by and talk to Jerry. he will even tell you about the day of the Crash. I've heard him tell it several times. They were all setting around in the break room when it happened.

I went down there to Leesburg last Saturday morning to the crash site. On the 40th anniversary. House looks the same as it did before the crash. I live in Ocala..

Very interesting story. BTW, our R.I. home of 32 years was listed by our agent at 8am Wednesday with a open house scheduled for today. Happy to report the open house was cancelled as my agent called 2 hours after the listing went up to get our ok to do appointments later that day as he received calls from 9 agents who had very interested qualified buyers. After those appointments were done 3 strong offers came in. And the strongest was from a young couple that offered $50k over asking to beat the highest offer, had no house to sell to be able to buy, waived the inspection, were putting down $100k, and if the appraisal came in lower than the sale price they would out of pocket make up the difference. We are still very much in shock that our home sold the same day it was listed and contract has already been signed with the closing scheduled for 4/29. Right after closing it is off to the bank to deposit the check and from there we are driving to TV and renting for a couple of months hoping to purchase a new smaller designer home preferably in St. John. And our great TV agent is pretty sure she can make that happen for us. It doesn't get much better than this for us as we spent a long hard year getting our house sell ready. Hopefully we will see you both out droning in the near future. 😁

Remember hearing this about the accident. Was so sadden by this young loss and the others in the plane. I also heard that Ozzy stopped doing heavy after this accident. Rest in Peace Randy and others. You are still missed!

That was a very sad day. It appears the property is now for sale. Hopefully the next owner will maintain its history.

This is the story that I got Rudy said the bus driver was driving all night and doing cocaine he decided to take them for a plane ride even though he lost his license like five years ago plus he never asked the owners to get permission he just took the plane Rudy said the pilot saw his ex-wife that he was trying to get back together with standing inside the bus near the door that opens to the outside he was trying to RAM the bus and kill himself & everybody on the plane and everybody on the bus.. Rudy said he could see Randy punching the pilot to avoid him hitting the bus head-on killing everybody inside Rudy said he was mad at his wife and he wanted to kill her..So basically Randy sacrificed his own life to save the others on the bus..🙏 that's when it clipped the bus going into the house and burst into flames..They said later the only way they could identify Randy was through dental records he was burnt that bad..RIP Randy & Rachel..Rudy said Randy was basically a hero..🎸🎸🎸🎸💪🤳🎸🎸

Yes I have heard similar. I figured for this video I should stay with the official findings of the FAA, but I tend to agree that Randy may have saved may lives that day.

I like it, but when I make these docs', I just go on the property with hazards and claim to be lost. It is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission as long as it isn't dangerous.
