good job explaining the nuance of calli using “they” instead of “he” or “she”. i think this must also come across in japanese, but that talk of “being into demons rather than shinigami” is very euphemistic. she’s using her lore to say things slightly less straightforwardly. “demons” means “guys” and “shinigami” means “girls”. so she used non-gendered “they” to talk about this person, but what she says heavily implies that they are either a straight girl, a gay guy, or a non-binary person who isn’t attracted to women. straight girl is the most likely option, and i think bae and irys probably understood it that way.

could also be a euphemism around ethnicity, since she has used "reaper" before to allude to being clearly non-Asian in Japan. doesn't explain using "they" for the person's gender, but she probably has gachikoi of both sexes and doesn't want to "shock" that small group of people who could potentially be one of her very generous donors.

I think she just uses "they" because she's very diligent about not giving out information about the people she's discussing. She even does it when we clearly know the gender of the person she's talking about lol.
