I love how the music starts kind of sad and somber, then gets progressively darker and more sinister, reflecting Adachi's gradual descent into insanity and murder.

It seems more of a tired song. Much of Adachi's character is based off "emptiness", in that he felt nothing changed. His life felt stagnant, almost suffocating. Day in and day out studying, then repeating the same boring routine as an adult at work. When Adachi speaks of the Persona ability, he called it "this power", not "my power". He recognized that it wasn't something to call his own, even though he possessed it. Adachi wasn't insane, but wanted to rid the world for a new one to feel that his life had some sort of purpose.

足立の気持ちってか、感覚が結構よくわかるから胸が痛くなる。 P4の主人公は確かに主人公でゲームの中では自分の分身だが、プレイ中もどこか羨ましさがあった

Captions for the flashback section: Adachi studying hard and sees other people hanging out and socialising: Hehe... well, have fun while it lasts. The springtime of their youth huh? We'll see who's laughing when I'm your boss. Youth doesn't last forever you know. (Essentially embodying the Japanese worker ideal) Adachi being asked to join a tennis club: How is that going to help me in life? Tennis? Hahaha. But seriously, these guys are so annoying. Can't they see I've got more important things to do? Adachi getting praised at work: And finally... FINALLY it pays off. I did everything right, blew the pants off my application. Time for the easy life... Adachi seeing a young talented worker taking his place and packing his stuff when he's asked to move away: What the hell is this. What the hell do I work so hard for? I did everything they asked. I did EVERYTHING? And that fucking kid, he probably spent his entire time relaxing and socialising and he just walks in and rises up? Because He's talented? This world's gone straight to shit. ((Maybe even, deep down, realising He'd wasted his youth. And he could never get it back.) Bonding with the Dojima family, getting his own cup at the table: Goddammit Dojima San, we've got work that needs doing. But man, Nanako's going to make a good wife someday, this good of a cook at her age? They said I can come over anytime... heh, what a small town thing to say. (Thank you, both of you) Dojima tells him he can't meet up today because He's planning things for Yu: ... Seeing Yu living and laughing, enjoying his youth: ... Seeing Nanako bonding with Yu: ... Finally, having Nanako and Dojima run off to be with Yu at the bridge: Oh, I get it... it didn't have to be me after all. Haha, of course right? This world's always been like that. The rest is captioned for me. I did this because I think a lot of people who haven't experienced real isolation can find it hard to understand why Adachi changed into the murderer you see at the end of Persona. It's a black hole that sucks you in until there's nothing left but you.

From my view, Adachi was only focusing and work hard to achieve his goal and ambition, while ignoring to included into social (like what you said), which thats why he was sarcastic smile. Also like what you said, Adachi kinda pissed off when seeing other being socialized and look them down. But its pity as the "bond" that he was keep rejected, yet he finally found his own "bond" which is "family" through Dojima. This "bond" somehow finally cheer him out from his depression and down which his though that "goal" is most important in life. But too bad, he's enjoying this "bond" is too short as Yu comes out and screwed his "bond". Might be the reason why he is trying hard to deny anything good abount "bond" yet he keep into it as he refuse to pull the trigger toward Yu (animation) and miss the bullet on purpose (game).

I like how Adachi is not glaring in all of the flashback scenes, but instead has more of a neutral expression. In public, folks usually do not show how they truly feel on their face.
