A barren land becomes a thriving ecosystem in just two years! Watch the journey and impact of Paani Foundation's Miyawaki forest in Nhavi Budruk village, Satara district, planted in partnership with SayTrees.
The Miyawaki forest growing method, pioneered by Japanese ecologist Akira Miyawaki, is a method of creating a fast-growing forest in just 2-3 years. After selecting a plot of land carefully, 2,000 saplings were planted in a dense method, close to each other. This creates a competition for sunlight and air amongst the saplings, and results in faster growth.
Only local varieties were chosen to be planted, to ensure maximum resistance to local climatic conditions, and thus ensure maximum survival. All saplings were planted via shramadaan (voluntary manual labour), and for 2 years, the forest was tended to carefully. Now, this forest is three years old (as of September 2020), and is frequented by birds, bees, insects and butterflies. Watch this beautiful transformation and tell us how you felt. :)
