This is actually a portrayal of Soni Mahewal tragic love story. Soni uses the help of a clay pot (ghariya) to cross the river to meet Mahewal and one night Soni's family tampers with the Ghariya - that's the part in the song where Ali Noor says 'Kachi meri mitti, Kacha mera anjam ni, Mena kaam ni.' But Soni cannot back off in love over the fear of dying crossing the river. She wears her jewellery (Wekh challa pendiyan aan) - and she leaves for her final journey. She says Mahweal will see my life but not betrayal on my part as testimony of her love. A pure masterpiece - this is.

Actually the word is "Challan" not challa(ring).Here Challan is used in sense of waves which is derived from word "Chall" which is Punjabi word for flood or storm. In the song Sohni is saying to Ghara(clay pot) that: Vekh chhallan paindiyan nah chhaddeen dil ve Ajj mahiwaal noon main jaana mil ve Meaning: Look, the waves are splashing higher and higher But don’t lose heart I must go to meet mahiwal this night at any cost

Probably you already know about this, still the instrument is called Sagar Veena and the women playing is mother of Noori brothers. I heard she is the only person who knows how to play this instrument.

@@HassaanQ I watched Noori’s own videos from 10 years ago, or something like that on KZfaq and they were like a vlog. In one of them, Ali Hamza said that he found out that his great grandfather from his dad’s side (if I remember correctly), had been a musician. So he said he then had that moment of realization, that that’s how he got his musical talent.

I love how organic those tears were. I nearly teared up seeing that aunty on that instrument because it just looked so "pure and right". I don't know if this makes sense and then Shilpa Rao's voice immediately after that instrument, I don't blame you for not being able to control those.

That instrument was SAGAR VEENA. She is the only person alive to play it! It was actually invented by her late father in 1970s.

Shilpa Rao is my favorite as well. I loved her song " Tose Nena Lage ". OMG! It's her next level talent. I feel the vibe of the song without listening it. One thing I much confess, listening and watching such phenomenal songs with you is very unique experience. Words aren't enough to describe it. love you ❤

Ok I came out of my hole for this one. When it came out it wowed me big time, JoJo I agree with you on voice texture and skills of Shilpa, and I remember commenting on the original upload, praising her and for me she stood out throughout. We all know the story but the lyrics go straight to heart, the dialogue between Sohni and garrah, what an interesting way to narrate! Knowing that it was Noori’s mother who played Sagar Veena makes it super emotional, and man she played. Love the part in the end when Ali and Shilpa were singing and tempo/ energy was high, beautiful. Without being cheesy I wanna say how creative we can be working together.

I have seen almost all pakistani songs that you guys have reacted to.. I really enjoy your reaction because u guys understand music and lyrics and instruments.. On top you guys are great communicators and are able to express yourself.. This combination is rare.. Otherwise most people reacting are from west who either don't understand lyrics or this type of music.. They come and keep praising songs which would make no sense to them.. For instance if you don't know sohni mahiwal story how can you appreciate this song.. Keep up the good work.. I would love to see you guys react to gorak dhanda original version.. And also if you guys can summarize the lyrics and references in fee lines it will really help your viewers..

The instrument is called Sagar Veena, and that lady, Madam Noor Zehra, the mother of the lead male singer, is also the only person alive who can play that instrument (as far as I know).

Listen closely its sohni speaking to the pot and the pot is speaking back to her ,im the end he speak of true follower of his master ,Clay pot is the human body ,Sohni is your Spirit,River is this world,And Mahiwal is your one true God who loves you more than anything.its a Sufi Song the representation of words take some people to connect it with this world while its deep down meaning is above this world

The whole song is about the conversation between sohni and her pot ( gharehya ) . They both knew their fate but still sohni encourages her pot to stay with her so that she can meet mahiwal on the other side of the bank or else her corpse will. Now think the sohni as a soul and her pot as a mind/heart talking to each other. This is the true symbolism and representation of love and belief.
